STATEMENT OF PURPOSE :-
THIS PROJECT IS A NEED FOR THE CBSE CURRICULUM FOR SCHOOLS. IT IS A THOUGHTFUL EFFORT THAT
UNDOUBTEDLY ASSISTED MY GROUP MATES AND I IN IMPROVING OUR LANGUAGE, ANALYSIS, AND LISTENING
ABILITIES. IT'S A WONDERFUL CHANCE TO LEARN MORE IN-DEPTH ABOUT THE MOTHERS AND THEIR SENTIMENTS
THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS PROJECT WAS TO GET A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF “THE FEELINGS OF ELDERLY
PEOPLE” AND THE INFLUENCE IT HAS ON PEOPLE'S LIFE WITH INTERVIEWS AND ONE ON ONE CONVERSATIONS
.
THIS PROJECT IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO UNDERSTAND THE OPINIONS AND INPUTS THAT PEOPLE HAVE TO
GIVE ON THIS TOPIC, THE EFFECTS OF THIS BEHAVIOR, WHETHER IT'S GOOD OR BAD, AND THE REGRETS
ACCOMPANYING IT WITH REFERENCE TO THE CHAPTER “MY MOTHER AT SIXTY-SIX".
ACTION PLAN :-
IN "MY MOTHER AT SIXTY SIX" BY KAMALA DAS, THE POET REFLECTS ON A POIGNANT MOMENT
DURING A CAR JOURNEY WITH HER AGING MOTHER. THE POEM CAPTURES THE VULNERABILITY
OF HER MOTHER, WHO, AT SIXTY-SIX, APPEARS FRAIL AND WEAK. AS THEY PASS BY THE CITY,
THE POET OBSERVES HER MOTHER SLEEPING, HER FACE MIRRORING A SENSE OF AGING AND
FRAGILITY. THE POET GRAPPLES WITH THE EMOTIONAL WEIGHT OF WITNESSING HER MOTHER'S
MORTALITY, CONTEMPLATING THE INEVITABILITY OF OLD AGE AND THE FLEETING NATURE OF
LIFE. THE IMAGERY OF THE JOURNEY SYMBOLIZES THE PASSAGE OF TIME AND THE ROLE
REVERSAL BETWEEN THE POET AND HER MOTHER. THE POEM EVOKES THEMES OF LOVE,
MORTALITY, AND THE TENDER COMPLEXITIES OF THE MOTHER-DAUGHTER RELATIONSHIP,
ENCAPSULATING THE UNIVERSAL EXPERIENCE OF WITNESSING A LOVED ONE AGE AND THE
EMOTIONS IT EVOKES.

• GOURAV: WHAT ARE SOME CHALLENGES YOU BELIEVE ELDERLY INDIVIDUALS FACE IN OUR SOCIETY TODAY?
• MR. ADITYA : ONE SIGNIFICANT CHALLENGE IS THE SENSE OF ISOLATION. MANY OF US FEEL DISCONNECTED FROM
THE FAST-PACED MODERN WORLD, LEADING TO FEELINGS OF LONELINESS. ADDITIONALLY, PHYSICAL HEALTH
CONCERNS AND A LACK OF SOCIETAL UNDERSTANDING OF OUR EMOTIONAL NEEDS CAN BE CHALLENGING..

• GOURAV: IN YOUR OPINION, WHAT SHOULD SOCIETY DO TO BETTER SUPPORT THE EMOTIONAL NEEDS OF THE
ELDERLY?
• MR, PRASHANT : SOCIETY SHOULD FOSTER A MORE EMPATHETIC APPROACH. THERE SHOULD BE SPACES WHERE WE
CAN OPENLY SHARE OUR FEELINGS AND EXPERIENCES WITHOUT FEAR OF JUDGMENT. PROGRAMS THAT ENCOURAGE
INTERGENERATIONAL INTERACTIONS CAN HELP BRIDGE THE GAP AND CREATE UNDERSTANDING.

OFFICER AT KOLKATA WEST BENGAL.
• GOURAV : WHAT SPECIFIC INITIATIVES OR CHANGES WOULD YOU LIKE TO SEE IN OUR COMMUNITY TO IMPROVE THE
LIVES OF THE ELDERLY?
• MR.RATUL- IT WOULD BE WONDERFUL TO HAVE MORE ACCESSIBLE SUPPORT SERVICES TAILORED TO SENIORS—

RAISING AWARENESS ABOUT THE EMOTIONAL NEEDS OF THE ELDERLY THROUGH EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY
PROGRAMS IS CRUCIAL

SO MUCH FOR YOUR INSIGHTS, MRS. SMITH. YOUR PERSPECTIVE IS INVALUABLE IN HELPING US UNDERSTAND HOW
WE CAN BETTER SUPPORT AND CARE FOR THE ELDERLY IN OUR COMMUNITY.
FINAL REPORT
The elderly individuals I interviewed expressed a
shared sentiment—they desire more than just physical
care; they seek understanding, empathy, and
meaningful connections. Kamala Das's poem, "My
Mother at Sixty Six," resonates deeply with their
experiences, showcasing the need for society to extend
compassion and emotional support to the elderly
beyond mere caregiving.
EMOTIONAL SUPPORT: THE ELDERLY YEARN FOR EMOTIONAL
COMPANIONSHIP AND EMPATHETIC INTERACTIONS. THEY FEEL A SENSE OF
ISOLATION AND CRAVE MEANINGFUL CONVERSATIONS AND CONNECTIONS.
SOCIETY SHOULD ENCOURAGE INTERGENERATIONAL BONDING, CREATING
PLATFORMS WHERE THE YOUNG AND THE OLD CAN ENGAGE IN DIALOGUE,
FOSTERING MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING AND COMPANIONSHIP.
RESPECT AND DIGNITY: MANY EXPRESSED A SENSE OF INVISIBILITY OR
BEING OVERLOOKED IN SOCIETY. RESPECT FOR THEIR LIFE EXPERIENCES,
WISDOM, AND CONTRIBUTIONS IS PARAMOUNT. ENCOURAGING INITIATIVES
THAT CELEBRATE THEIR ACHIEVEMENTS AND INVOLVE THEM IN COMMUNITY
ACTIVITIES CAN UPLIFT THEIR SPIRITS AND REAFFIRM THEIR VALUE IN
SOCIETY.
ACCESSIBLE RESOURCES: ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE, TRANSPORTATION, AND
RECREATIONAL FACILITIES WAS HIGHLIGHTED AS A SIGNIFICANT CONCERN.
ENHANCING ACCESSIBILITY AND AFFORDABILITY OF THESE RESOURCES CAN
IMPROVE THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE. ADDITIONALLY, CREATING AGE-FRIENDLY
ENVIRONMENTS, SUCH AS PEDESTRIAN-FRIENDLY STREETS OR PARKS
TAILORED FOR SENIORS, IS CRUCIAL.
EMPATHY IN CARE: CAREGIVERS AND HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS NEED TO
PRIORITIZE EMPATHY AND COMPASSION WHILE ADDRESSING THE NEEDS OF
THE ELDERLY. UNDERSTANDING THEIR EMOTIONS, FEARS, AND DESIRES IS
ESSENTIAL IN PROVIDING HOLISTIC CARE BEYOND THE PHYSICAL ASPECTS.
• CONCLUSION:
THE INTERVIEWS UNDERSCORE THE IMPORTANCE OF AN EMPATHETIC
APPROACH TOWARDS THE ELDERLY, ALIGNING WITH THE SENTIMENTS
DEPICTED IN "MY MOTHER AT SIXTY SIX." SOCIETY MUST TRANSCEND MERE
PHYSICAL CARE AND EXTEND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT, RESPECT, AND INCLUSIVE
OPPORTUNITIES TO CREATE A NURTURING ENVIRONMENT FOR THE ELDERLY
POPULATION.
