Unit/ Subject Area Program Description:

The Chemistry curriculum covers the fundamentals of the science of Chemistry delivered through
varied, modern and in-depth pedagogical approaches. It aims to cultivate in the scholars scientific
attitude by providing him/her opportunities to learn and develop skills on critical thinking and
problem-solving, creativity and innovation, and collaboration and communication using various tools
of science.

At the end of the courses, Chemistry 1 and 2, the scholar will be equipped with the competencies that
will enable him/her to specialize in a scientific course in college.

Course Number and Title:

Chemistry 2: INTRODUCTION TO ORGANIC CHEMISTRY/ GENERAL INORGANIC CHEMISTRY II

Chemistry 2 is a one-unit course designed to provide an overview of some topics in the different fields
of chemistry, including organic chemistry. It focuses on analytical and physical chemistry both in
theories and applications to help students understand the role of chemistry in the society. Chemistry
2 covers the following topics: organic chemistry, chemical kinetics, chemical equilibrium, acids and
bases, and electrochemistry. Quantitative reasoning skills are developed to enhance the
understanding of these concepts. The manipulative skills of students will be refined in this course by
introducing new laboratory techniques to prepare them for future analytical work.

General Course Objectives:

At the end of the course, the student should be able to:
1. Understand thermochemical equations and applications of this equations;
2. demonstrate a deeper understanding of advanced chemical concepts and principles;
3. develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills involving chemistry concepts;
4. exhibit competence in the conduct of experiments and handling of laboratory glassware and
instruments;
5. articulate the significant role of chemistry in contemporary life, and
6. Integrate diverse topics previously learned with current topics to create unified whole

2. solve problems in chemical kinetics, chemical equilibria of different types of reactions, acids
and bases, and electrochemistry with greater accuracy;
3. interpret the meaning of numerical values obtained from problems solved;
4. show carefulness and confidence in performing laboratory processes and in handling related
equipment;
5. conduct an open-ended investigation using any of the topics covered in Chemistry 2, and
