 Based on the pictures, what concept can you provide in relation to the
next lesson that will be discussed today?
Discussion Proper:

Definition of the basic terms

Population – refers to a collection of people, objects, places, or things that
possesses common characteristics to be studied.
Sample – a subset or subgroup of a population.

What is Random Sampling?

Random Sampling
 a type of sampling in which the data is collected using randomization
 also known as probability sampling
25 mins. Types of Random Sampling

1. Simple Random Sampling

 the simplest type of random sampling
 each element has an equal probability/chance of
being selected from the population

Illustration:

2. Systematic Random Sampling

 the selection of specific individuals or members
from an entire population
 the selection often follows a predetermined interval
(k)
Illustration:
3. Stratified Random Sampling
 includes the partitioning of a population into
subclasses with notable distinctions and
variances
 allows the researcher to make more reliable
and informed conclusions by confirming that
each respective subclass has been
adequately represented in the selected
sample
Illustration:

4. Cluster Random Sampling

 includes dividing a population into subclasses
 entails the random selection of a whole
subclass, as opposed to the sampling of
members from each subclass

Activity 2: Random Sampling, Action!

Divide the class into 4 groups. Assign each group what sampling technique they
are going to present through a role play presentation. Each group must present
4.5 Application different scenarios utilizing the types of random sampling they are assigned to.
Group 1 – Simple Random Sampling
Group 2 – Systematic Random Sampling

10 mins. Group 3 – Stratified Random Sampling

Group 4 – Cluster Random Sampling

Activity 3: What Random Sampling Am I?

Determine the type of sampling used (simple random,

stratified, systematic, or cluster).
1. A group of test subjects is divided into twelve
groups; then four of the groups are chosen at
random.
2. A market researcher polls every tenth person who
4.6 Assessment walks into a store.
Test 3. A computer generates 100 random numbers, and
10 mins. 100 people whose names correspond with the
numbers on the list are chosen.
4. The first house in the neighbourhood around the
park was selected randomly, and then the resident
of every eighth house in the neighbourhood around
the park was interviewed.
5. The office clerk gave the researcher a list of 500
Grade 10 students. The
researcher selected every 20th name on the list.
6. A researcher who is studying the effects of
educational attainment on
promotion conducted a survey of 50 randomly
selected workers from
each of these categories: high school graduate, with
undergraduate
degrees, with master's degree, and with doctoral
degree.
7. A researcher interviewed all top 10 Grade 11
students in each of 15
randomly selected private schools in Metro Manila.
8. A researcher randomly selected 10 barangays in a
town for her study.
She did this by writing the names of each barangay
on a piece of paper
which she folded and put in a bowl then she draws
10 pieces of each
paper from the bowl.

the day’s lesson

different types of random sampling. Explain the purpose of
each type of random sampling and provide scenarios for
each type.
