Quarter: 3 Week: 4 SSLM No. 4 MELC(s): Identifies the terms related to a circle (M5GE-
IIId-23.20) and draws circles with different radii using a compass (M5GE-IIIe-24).
Let Us Discover
This Simplified Self-Learning Module (SSLM) focuses on identifying the terms related to
a circle and you will also learn to draw circles with different radii using a compass.
Below are the important terms to remember related to a circle.
A circle is a set of all points in a plane with the same distance from
the certain point called the center. A circle is named with its center,
using a single letter. This letter is also used to name the circle. The
circle in figure 1 is named circle C.
The diameter is the longest line that passes through the center
of the circle. Every diameter is a chord. The diameter is two times
the radius. The diameter of the given circle is EF
Using your bare hands will not guarantee that you will be able to draw a perfect circle.
Do you know that we have an instrument used to draw a perfect circle?
1. AD ______________
2. AJ ______________
3. J ______________
4. ∠EJH ______________
5. GI ______________
B. Directions: Use a real compass or an improvised one to draw circles with these given
conditions inside the box.
1. Circle F with a radius of 2 cm. 2. Draw a radius that measures 1.5 cm.

_____ 1. A part or portion of the circumference a. radius
_____ 2. The distance around the circle b. diameter
_____ 3. A line segment joining two points on the circle c. circumference
_____ 4. A chord that connects two points on the d. chord
circle and passes through the center of circle e. center
_____ 5. A line segment from the center of the circle to any point on the circle.
