A Detailed Lesson Plan in English 8

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students will:

1. Differentiate active and passive voice;


2. Transform statements from active voice to passive voice and vice versa;
3. Use active voice and passive voices in varied context.

Good morning class. Okay everybody stand.


Kindly lead the prayer____________. (Learners stand and begin praying.)

(After the Prayer)

Good morning, Class! “Good morning, Ma’am Mary Ann!”

How are you this morning?


“We are fine ma’am!”

That’s great! Before you take your seats, I want


you to pick up pieces of paper under your
chair. (Learners do as they are told)

You may now take your seats.

- ACTIVITY

That’s great! Before we start to discuss a new


lesson today, you will have an activity. This
activity is called, “Fix Me, I’m Shattered!”.

I have here two envelopes with strips of papers


inside. All you have to do is to arrange the
jumbled words to form a sentence.

(The teacher will group the class into two.)

Proceed now to your groups class.

(The teacher will give the envelopes to each


group)

So, what is Voice of Verbs?

Voice is the quality of verb that shows whether


the subject of the sentence is the doer or
receiver of the action.

2 Voices of the Verb

1. Active Voice
2. Passive Voice

The Active Voice


The active voice is used to indicate that the
subject of the sentence is the doer of the action.

Let’s start with a simple sentence.

S V DO
The boy kicked the ball

The boy functions as the subject or the doer of


the action, kicked is the transitive verb and the
ball is the object of the verb.

Let’s have more examples.

Sam ate the apples.


Subject verb object
(doer) (receiver)

Remember the pattern of active voice which is (Student’s participating)


S + V + DO.

The Passive Voice


The subject receives the action expressed in the
verb. The object of the active sentence becomes
the subject of the passive voice.

Example:

The ball was kicked by the boy.


Subject be-verb=past participle Object
(receiver) of the main verb (doer)

The apples were eaten by Sam.


Subject be-verb=past participle Object
(receiver) of the main verb (doer)

Remember the formula is Subject(receiver)


+verb (be-verb+past participle)+ by + object
(doer)

In present tense..
( am, is, are+ past participle)

In past tense..
(was, were+ past participle)

In future tense..
(will, shall+ past participle)
