MELCs: Analyze the basic concepts and principles of the major Social Science theories: Structural-
functionalism, Marxism, and Symbolic Interactionism.

Objectives:
1. Understand the concepts and principles of Structural-functionalism, Marxism, and Symbolic
Interactionism.
2. Determine the manifest and latent functions as well as dysfunctions of social structure.
3. Analyze social inequalities in terms of class conflict; and
4. Appraise the meaning that people attach to everyday forms of interaction in order to explain social
behavior.

LEARNING TASKS
Time
 Be ready for the study session in the morning. See to it that everything has been prepared already like
modules, answer sheet, pen and paper.
 Have time to prepare yourself in the conduct of either online or modular study session by doing the morning
routine such as hygienic activities and mental and body preparedness.

Directions:

Activity 1.3. Poster Making (page 7)

Directions:
1. Use your creativity by drawing a poster reflecting social inequalities in our society
because of class conflict.

2. Determine the importance of the major Social Science theories in examining socio-cultural,
economic, and political conditions; and
3. Explain how the major Social Science theories can be applied in the present situations or
problems existing in our society.

Science theories in examining the socio-cultural, economic, and political conditions of
our society about distance learning education.

Write your journal entry on a separate sheet of paper. You may read articles or surf the
internet about the distance learning education using alternative delivery mode such as
Online Education, Modular, Television, Radio, and Blended Learning.
