A SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN SCIENCE 4

I. OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, the pupils are expected to:
A. The learner demonstrates understanding of what is the main functions of the major
organs of the body.
B. The learner should practice habits to maintain a healthy body.
C. Describe the main function of the major organs of the body; stomach, intestines,
kidneys, heart, lungs and brain.

II. SUBJECT MATTER: “The Main Function of the Major Organs”

III. LEARNING RESOURCES

2. Learner’s pages
3. Textbook pages
4. Additional Materials from Learning Resources (LR) portal: Science Module
B. Other Learning Resources: Picture, TV, PowerPoint Presentation

IV. PROCEDURE Teacher activity Learners acivity

A. Engagement Say: Today, we are going to

study the major organs of the
human body. This lesson will
give you understanding on
how to describe the main
function of the major organs
of the human body.

At the end of this lesson, you

are expected to describe the
main function of the major
organs. Identifying them will
guide you on how to take
care of them and live a
longer life.

Our body is composed of

different parts that work
together to do live process.
These body parts are called
“organs”. And these organs
play important roles for us to
live like stomach,
intestines, kidneys, heart
and brain.

These major organs are

important to perform all our
daily activities

Can you describe the

functions of each major
B. Exploration organ of your body?

Let’s get familiarized each

major organs and its
C. Explanation functions.

Get ready your notebook to

jot down important
information about the
functions of the major organs
and how to maintain healthy
body.

1. STOMACH AND
INTESTINES
One of the important organs
is stomach and intestines
we need to eat food to gain
energy for our daily activities.
We get energy and
nourishment from food
through digestion. The food
is chemically digested
through our stomach and
intestines. After digestion,
the food is broken down into
simpler form called
“nutrients” that is used by
the body. The stomach has
layers of muscles
responsible for the
squeezing of food as they
contract and relax.

2. KIDNEYS
Kidney is a bean-shaped
needs to eliminate
unnecessary substances that
has entered into the system.
Kidney removes excess
fluids and waste product in
the body through urine. So,
it filters blood and produce
urine.

The illustration or the picture

shows the location and a
different part of kidney.

The kidney has two

functions: (1) it removes the
liquid waste solution from the
blood in the form of urine, (2)
they also keep stable and
balance the other
substances that dissolves in
the blood and produce
hormones that aid in the
formation of blood. Some of
the major waste materials
that are being eliminated by
kidneys through excretion
are excess nitrogenous
waste, water and salts.

3. HEART
Heart is a hollow muscular
organ protected by the chest
cavity. When the cardiac
muscles involuntary contract,
the heart works and can
easily pumps blood to
distribute nutrients from
small intestines and oxygen
from the lungs to the different
parts of the body. So when
are doing activities like
running or jumping and the
other physical activities, our
pulse beats fast compare to
when you just sit or sleep.
This is because exercise can
increase the construction of
the heart muscles.

4. LUNGS
The lungs are part of
respiratory system. It
supplies oxygen in the body
necessary for respiration or
exchange of gases. Our pair
of lungs coordinated with the
heart by oxygenating the
blood that will pass through
it.

The lungs through air socks

secure the quality of each
oxygen by filtrating them,
leaving the good ones in the
blood and exhausting the
waste gases like carbon
dioxide out of the body.

So, lungs get oxygen and

remove carbon dioxide from
the blood.

Another organ that is very

important is the;

5. BRAIN
It is considered as one of the
highly complex organ. It is
found in the head and
protected by the skull.

It contains billions of units of

neurons for the processing of
information and controls
thoughts, memory and other
organs.

It considered as the CPU or

known as the central
processing unit of the body
for its main function is to
process and interpret the
information.

It receives and send back the

most appropriate reaction of
the involved body parts.

The brain controls and

coordinates all the types of
muscles for balance,
responses and physical
activities. Most responsively,
the brain is responsible for
learning and acquiring skills
like writing, dancing, singing,
drawing, etc.

D. Elaboration come up with the name of
the organ that is being
described. Write your
answers on your notebook.

TERAH 1. ________pumps
blood around the body.
DIYKEN 2. _______ filters
blood and produce urine.
LECMUS 3. ______ fleshy
part that enable the body to
move.
RINAB 4. _______
responsible for learning and
acquiring skills.
CHOSMAT 5. ______ where
the food is broken down into
nutrients.
GLUNS 6. _____ gets
oxygen and remove carbon
dioxide from the blood.

Directions: write the name of

the following body organs on
your notebook as shown in
the picture.

Exercise 2: “Name It!”

Study the pictures and label
the numbered parts.

These major organs are

important to perform
All our daily activities. They
work together like machines
E. Extension helping us to respond to
sudden changes in the
environment and to interact
with other people

We need to take care of our

organs to perform all of our
daily activities. So, what are
the habits to maintain a
healthy body habits?

HABITS TO MAINTAIN A
HEALTHY BODY
✓ Having healthy foods
✓ Exercising
✓ Having enough sleep
✓ Drinking plenty of water
if we don’t take care of our
organs, we will experience
diseases that will greatly
affect our daily life activities.

DISEASES
✓ Heart failure
✓ Kidney failure
✓ Lung problem

Say: congratulations for a

job well done!
