Foreword
This standard has been prepared under the authority of the JCB Standards and Legislation department
(Standards department).
This standard is intended solely for use in connection with the business requirements of J C Bamford Excavators
Ltd. (JCB) and is for use by appropriately qualified and competent people.
This is the first issue of this standard to specify a colour coding method which may be applied to hydraulic hose
as an assembly aid.
Contractual and legal considerations are not part of the scope of this standard. This standard does not
relinquish any responsibility, regulatory requirements, or duty of care.

1.0 Scope
This standard specifies the allowable colours to facilitate hose identification for assembly and service purposes.
The implementation of the colour coding system will be at the discretion of the individual business units.

2.0 Concessions
In the case of a failure to conform to the requirements of this standard, a documented concession should be
generated following the requirements given in GRP-023. Suppliers should contact their JCB purchasing contact
to obtain a copy of the standard operating procedure covering concessions (GRP-023).
A digital copy of the concession shall be filed with JCB Standards department (concessions by e-mail shall be
accepted).

3.0 Description
Only the colours listed in the table below may be used.
Where a requirement extends beyond the available number of colours then colours may be doubled at each
location.
The colour name shall be repeatedly marked in black lettering along the length of the coloured band.
Where no colour coding is to be specified on one of the hoses in a kit of hoses the term ‘none’ shall be used to
describe the exclusion of the marking (the term ‘clear’ shall not be used as this infers the fitting of a clear band;
Always consult electronic master. Paper copies are uncontrolled.

this is NOT permitted).

The coloured band shall be attached to the hose near to the ferrule and shall not be allowed to slide along the
length of the hose.
The coloured band shall retain its colour and markings and remain fixed to the hose for a minimum of five years.
The finished banding should cover 360 degrees circumferentially and each band should be no wider than 15mm.

4.0 Drawing call out

Where coloured bands are specified the hose kit drawing shall contain the following information:
- the hose original part number
- the colour coding part number
- the number of coloured bands to be applied at each hose end where this exceeds one per end
