I’m glad that you are all okay.

3. Checking of Attendance
Is there anyone who isn't here today? None ma’am

Very good. To know if you are all in to our

class, I use an attendance checker to see
who is absent and who is present.

B. Motivation
Directions: Look at the following scrambled

Where is the girl jumping? In the backyard, Ma’am

What do you call the equipment on which the It is called trampoline, Ma’am.
girl jumping?

Do you know what trampoline is? Yes, Ma’am

Trampoline is a resilient sheet or a nylon

supported by springs in a metal frame and used
as a springboard and landing area in tumbling.
This can be used by children, youth and adults.

Have you ever played on a trampoline? Yes, Ma’am

How does it feel playing on the trampoline? Tiring but happy, Ma’am

What are the benefits of playing in the It helps us to boost our physical fitness,
trampoline? Ma’am.

Yes! That is right. Did you know that playing

on the trampoline or jumping helps to develop
better balance, coordination, and motor skills?
It is also good for our hearts and builds our
strength.

Now, I have here a problem. Yes Ma’am.

Can you read the problem ? (The pupil read the problem)

Mr. Suarez is purchasing materials to build a

do-it-yourself trampoline for his kids. If he
wants the diameter of the mat to be 14 feet

Very good. The formula in finding the area of

a circle in A = πr². A represents the area of a
circle. The constant used in the calculation of
the area of a circle is π, and it has a fractional
numeric value of 22 or a decimal value of 3.14.

circle?

Very good! Area should be expressed in a

square unit.

Now, let’s answer the problem given in our

previous part of the lesson.

Mr. Suarez is purchasing materials to build a

do-it-yourself trampoline for his kids. If he
wants the diameter of the mat to be 14 feet
long, how much nylon does he need to
purchase?

14 feet

Mr. Suarez needed to purchase nylon to

build a trampoline for his kids.
What is being asked in the problem?
A diameter of the mat is 14 feet long.
What are the given facts?

How do we solve the area of a circle?

Using the formula on what we learned a while
ago, let us help Mr. Suarez compute the
amount nylon needed to build a trampoline for
his kids

Solution:
d
r=2 A = πr²
A = 3.14 x (7ft) ²
14 ft
r= 2 A = 3.14 x 7 ft x
7ft r = 7 ft A = 3.14 x (49 ft²)
A = 153.86 ft²

Therefore, Mr. Suarez needs to purchase

153.86 ft² of nylon to build a trampoline. I got the correct answer, Ma’am
Who got the correct

answer? Very good!

Let's look at some another example involving
areas of circles. Use π= 3.14 in all examples
and calculations.

Example 1:
The radius of a circle is 3 meters. What is the
area of the circle?

Solution: A = πr²
A = 3.14 x (3 m) ²
3m A = 3.14 x (9 m²)
A = 28.26 m²

The area of a circle is 28.26 m².

Example 2:
The diameter of a dart board is 8 centimeters.
What is the area of the circle?
Solution:
d
A = πr²
r= A = 3.14 x (4cm) ²
2
A = 3.14 x 4 cm x 4 cm
r=8
2 A = 3.14 x (16 cm²)
r = 4 cm A = 50.24 cm²
Therefore, the area of a dart board is 50.24 cm².

What if the area is given? How will you find

the radius of the circle?

Example 3:
If a circular pool has an area of 78.5 square
meters. What is the radius of the pool?

Solution: A = πr²
78.5 m² = π x r²
78.5 m² = 3.14 x r²
78.5 m2 78.5 m² ÷ 3.14 = r²
25 m² = r²
5mx5m=rxr
5m=r
Therefore, the radius of the circular pool is 5
m.

To calculate the area of a circle you must

remember these steps:
Kindly read .
1. Identify the radius of a circle. The radius The pupil will read the rules.
is also one half of the diameter of a circle.
2. Square the radius. The formula to find
the area of a circle is A= πr2, where r
is a variable that represents the radius.
This variable is squared.
3. Multiply by pi. Approximately 3.14
4. Report your result. Remember that the
area is expressed in "square" units.

Developing Mastery #1: Correct Me, If I’m

2. We do not square the unit to express False
the area of a circle.
3. The formula in getting the radius is r
True
d

True
4. 𝐴=𝜋𝑟2 can be written as 𝐴=𝜋 x 𝑟 x r.
5. The area formula of a circle is True
𝐴=𝜋𝑟2.

Developing Mastery 2: SPIN THE WHEEL

Direction: I have here a wheel which contains

the name of the sections. I will click the spin
and where the arrows stop, I will call a
representative to solve the problem.

Are you now ready?

Yes, ma’am
1. The radius of a circular rug is 2 feet. What is
the area of the rug?

Possible answer:
A = πr²
A = 3.14 x (2 ft) ²
A = 3.14 x (4 ft²) The pupil will try to solve the problem.
A = 12.56 ft²

Therefore, the area of circular rug is 12.56 ft².

2. The diameter of a circle is 12 meters. What is

the area of the circle?

Possible Answer:

d A = πr²
r = 212 𝑚 A = 3.14 x (6 m) ²
r= A = 3.14 x 36 m² The pupils will try to solve the problem.
2
r=6m
A = 113.04 m²
So, the area of the circle is 113.04 m².

3. The diameter of a bicycle wheel is 20 in. What

is the area of the wheel?
Possible Answer:
d A = πr²
r=2 A = 3.14 x (10 in) ²
20 in The pupils will try to solve the problem.
r= 2 A = 3.14 x (100 in²)
A = 314 in²
r = 10 in
Therefore, the area of a bicycle wheel is 314 in².

4. Ron and his friends ordered a circular pizza on

Friday night. Each slice was 15 cm in length.
Calculate the area of the pizza that was ordered
by Ron. Assume that the length of the pizza
slice is equal to the pizza’s radius. The pupils will solve the problem.
Possible Answer:
15 cm
A = πr2
A = 3.14 × (15 cm) 2
A = 3.14 x (225 cm²)
A =706.5 cm2
Therefore, the area of the pizza that Ron ordered
is 706.5 cm².
5. Gerry is making a circular glass top for a table
with a radius of 6 dm. what is the smallest
possible area of the glass that is needed to
cover the top of the table?
Possible Answer: The pupils will solve the problem.
A = πr²
A = 3.14 x (6 dm) ²
A = 3.14 x (36 dm²)
A = 113.04 dm²
Therefore, the area of the glass that is needed
to cover the top of the table is 113.04 dm².

E. Finding Practical Application of concepts

and skills in daily living
Directions: Solve this problem individually.

1. A therapy pool in a water spa is in the shape of

a 7-meter-wide circle. How much material
would it take to cover it?
What is the answer in the problem?

r = 2d A = πr²
A = 3.14 x (3.5 m) ²
7m
r= 2 A = 3.14 x (12.25 m²)
r = 3.5m A = 38.47 m² The pupils will solve the problem.
The area of a material needed to cover the
therapy pool is 41.65m².

2. Every time it rains, Mrs. Flores saves water in

a big clay jar called ‘tapayan’. She covers
them with a circular galvanized iron with a
radius of 5 dm. What is the area of the circular

The pupils will solve the problem.

A = πr²
A = 3.14 x (5 dm) ²
A = 3.14 x (25 dm²)
A = 78.5 dm²
