Being an awardee of the MEXT Scholarship by the Japanese government in 2015-2020 was one of
the most precious times in my life because it had brought me to meet many inspiring people. I
could be friends with people around the world, and I learned a lot of things about their cultures.
Having a lot in commons in terms of language and culture, my Indonesian friends were the ones
that I had the strongest bond.

In the MEXT Indonesian awardee get-togethers, we could share our thoughts and interests. From
this event, I got information about a friend of my senior who started a business on recycled plastic
design products. Since I have a keen interest in waste management in my capacity as a designer,
this topic had caught my attention. Ever since I heard about this company, I have been following
its updates on Instagram. As a sustainable design-based company, it has made a lot of
collaborations with other companies and made contributions to society. Inspired by this company,
I am eager to develop my own business in sustainable architecture in the future.

I reached out to my senior to ask for the contact number of her friend whose recycling business
interests me. After getting the number, I approached this person to make an appointment to have
a phone call. In our phone call, she shared my things, from the history of why she started her
business to the hardships she had gone through. From our conversation, I learned about
sustainability, design, and enterprise. What caught my attention the most was when she told me
that she could not have done it without her partner. Triggered by our talks, I tried to find a
business partner, and the first person I had in mind was my friend who was also studying in Japan
with me. After reaching out to my friend to tell him my idea, we are in our first step on our journey
of building a start-up company.

As my teacher ever said to me, "networking is like a spider web." Like threads that interweave a
spider web in different directions, people have to go in many directions to connect with other
people. One connection can lead you to another. If you have a good relationship with other people
and use your networking wisely, it can lead you to success.

I always try to maintain a gracious and professional manner when communicating with people.
This attitude has prepared me to expand my networking on a broader scale. As I have succeeded in
maintaining my networking with the MEXT community, I will also engage with the Chevening
community; and become a future leader that can lead others to inspiring vision.
