    DAY CONFERENCE HALL


    Intense reaction, tension between the debaters.Silence in
    the hall,the audience awaits in anticipation.Eyes on the
    debaters

    RELIGION
    So why do we read the bible? It’s
    obvious,to understand God’s law and
    obey it.We cannot live on earth
    without obeying laws.We all know
    that absence of law is the
    beginning of destruction.Religion
    is obeying and following God’s law
    to the latter.
    GOSPEL
    James 1:27 says that Religion that
    God our Father accepts as pure and
    faultless is this:to look after
    orphans and widows in their
    distress and to keep oneself from
    being polluted by the world.

    RELIGION
    Correct!Those are good deeds,
    Religion is practicing these deeds,
    which implies keeping the law.

    GOSPEL
    On the contrary,practicing those
    deeds is bearing fruit as a result
    of being connected to Jesus Christ
    so it becomes natural not forcing
    yourself in the name of following
    religion or keeping the law.
    RELIGION
    And that brings us to Matthew 5:17
    when Jesus said," Do not think I
    have come to abolish the law or the
    prophets,I have come not to abolish
    them but fulfill them
    GOSPEL
    What does it mean to fulfill?It
    means it was incomplete or missing
    something,this missing piece is
    Jesus who is complete enough and
    everything.John 3:17-18’For God did
    not send his son into the world to
    condemn the world, but to save the
    world through him,whoever believes

    in him is not condemned,but whoever
    does not believe stands condemned
    already because he has not believed
    in the name of God’s one and only
    Son.In short,believing in Jesus is
    keeping the entire law.
    RELIGION
    Your many words talk of Grace.We
    all know that grace condones
    sin.People think.’I believe in
    Jesus,so I’m forgiven’ So they sin
    habitually,intentionally, in the
    name of,’It is finished’ That’s why
    I say Religion is the true
    answer,to observe God’s law at all
    costs.
    GOSPEL
    Very well,do you keep the law?
    RELIGION
    Rhetoric question-That’s my
    lifestyle. I do not steal, or
    lie,or commit adultery,I do not
    smoke or drink,name it all,I
    observe the law

    GOSPEL
    Jesus did not limit sin to just n
    action,but a state of existence,our
    corrupt minds,thoughts and
    behavior,our self-cent
    redness,materialism.He equated lust
    to adultery,anger to murder,
    So,have you ever looked at a woman
    with lust?
    RELIGION
    Maybe once or twice
    (Relief and laughter in the
    audience)
    GOSPEL
    Have you ever been angry at a
    brother?
    RELIGION
    Yes I have, a number of times

    Will I be right in saying that you
    do not only observe the law,but
    also cannot keep it?

    RELIGION
    Are you trying to judge me?Are you
    even righteous?
    GOSPEL
    Not exactly,and I’m a sinner just
    saved by Grace.What I’m trying to
    say is that when you trust in Jesus
    that He paid the debt,you stop
    worrying of sin and he
    automatically makes you
    righteous.That’s why He died on the
    cross,He not only dealt with sin
    but also crucified the
    flesh.Accepting this amazing Grace
    causes us to be loving people,and
    sin begins to die.

    RELIGION
    We are broken beings,but still we
    have to strive to keep and fulfill
    the law.

    GOSPEL
    Brother,what Jesus was saying,is
    that instead of you fulfilling the
    law, let me fulfill it,then you
    will be grafted into me,so that the
    fruit you bear will be natural,not
    forced cause He paid the price.
    RELIGION
    Then why did God give us to the law
    if not for us to obey?

    GOSPEL
    God gave us the law in order for us
    to realize sin.If you look at the
    law as a mirror,you realize you are
    bound for destruction.You’ll have
    no choice to be discouraged and
    give up,because it is evident that
    we can’t keep the law.God gave us
    the law to realize the Gospel,Jesus
    Christ,who solved it all.

    You emphasize on Grace,that’s a
    dangerous if not deceptive
    doctrine.

    GOSPEL
    Grace does not just forgive sin,It
    literally stops you from sinning
    automatically.Just abide in God’s
    word,you will know the truth and
    the truth shall set you free.The
    word of God is not just
    information,It is a trans formative
    power that molds and shapes us into
    righteousness.So brother,you
    choose,enter through the narrow
    door,which is trusting entirely on
    Jesus Christ to establish His
    Kingdom in you,fill you with His
    Spirit,and bear fruit naturally,or
    the wide door,the law...

    under rest?
    Do you view God as your Father or
    as a tormentor?
    Are you in demand or under supply
    from God?
    Do you insist on what you can do
    for God,or do you allow what God
    can do for you?
