Introduction

This module is premised on the vision - mission - goal framework of


Marvelous College of Technology, Inc. which is spelled out as being able to:

1. Produce professionally competent students at the service of the


community where they serve.
2. Capacitate the students to be technically skilled for the development of
the community.
3. Develop social awareness of the needs of the community to make their
services relevant in responding to particular/specific needs within the limits of their
competencies.
In so doing, the students are provided with this guide to serve the
following purposes namely:
1. To ensure that the course is learner-centered and outcome-based oriented.
2. To learn the essential contents taught which are easy enough to come up with
outcome-based learning and doable enough to be accomplished by the students
within the specified time.
3. To provide direction for learning the subject.
4. To suggest some approaches/strategies for achieving the objectives of the
students to make learning outcome-based possible.

Character Formation 1 – Nationalism and Patriotism in a new course


added in criminology subject which is under (CMO. 5) Ched Memorandum
Order No. 5. And anchored in RA 11131 this course focuses on how to become
a Nationalist and Patriotic through legal terms and ethical standards under
democracy and politics in the Philippines.

Included in this course is the different culture of the Filipino which gives us
a freedom and peace called Multiculturalism and social justice. The weaknesses
of the Filipino People and other reasons why should be Patriotic and Nationalist.

Most students in the tertiary level are adolescents. In this sense, they are
the majority beneficiaries of this module. However, students of higher age cannot
be undermined. It necessitates therefore that a learning mode and methodology
has to be enshrined by the teacher being the manager of learning in designing this
module. Activities to be performed have to be developed in a facilitative and
process-oriented manner so that the students are able develop their own learning.
The basic approach to this course then, is the critical and practical
application of a specific evaluation model where the students are able to learn the
following:

a. Explain the weaknesses and strength of Filipino.


b. Change the behavior of students through strengthening their spirit of Patriotism
or love of country.
c. Illustrate how to become a patriotic and nationalist.
d. Build their own self to become patriotic and nationalist.

The course is divided into three modules which correspond to the three
terms per semester namely: Prelim Examination Period, Midterm Examination
Period and Final Examination Period. Eighteen (18) sessions are allotted for the
semester course. Evenly distributing the time equally to the three terms, each
module is allotted eighteen (18) sessions.

Learning Outcome

The learning outcome is Empowerment. Students are able to:

1. Gain deeper knowledge/awareness/understanding of the Nationalism and Patriotism

in the Philippines

2. Discuss the Patriotism and Nationalism in determining the historical pronouncement


of Filipino People.

3. Determine the weaknesses of Filipino, and reflect the character as a Filipino citizen

4. Perform the Nationalism and Patriotism doing the positive creativeness of Filipino
through social justice and multiculturalism
