CALA TITLE : Strengths and weaknesses of Oral Tradition

BACKGROUND

Oral Tradition has often been discredited as unreliable and an exaggerated account of the past.
Despite the weaknesses it remains as one of the widely used sources of history in the recovery
of the history of Zimbabwe.

TASK/CALA

The CALA has 2 parts; Part A and Part B. You need to complete both parts.

PART A
Your teacher has tasked you to demonstrate the strengths and weaknesses of Oral Tradition
and how the other sources can complement Oral Tradition through research of the role played
by religious authorities in the First Chimurenga. You are required to gather Information
through interviews on the role of spirit mediums in the First Chimurenga. You are required to
record the responses of the respondents.
PART B.
1) Using the information from Part A make a 3 page write up of strengths and weaknesses of
Oral Tradition based on the results of the interviews.
2) Make a write up of about 1 ½ pages suggesting how the other sources can complement oral
Tradition as observed from Part A.

HOW YOU WILL BE ASSESSED

The CALA has 50 marks

The teacher will assess the following:

1) Your research questions

2) Notes from interviews

3) Research presentation

4) Your write up A and B.

Due date of CALA is 27 September 2021, but on a regular basis the teacher will ask you to show
progress achieved

Note: A detailed marking scheme will be provided.
