Nehemiah 2:11-20
August 20, 2017
You might not be surprised that Brazil is the number one receiving nation of
foreign missionaries in the world, but you might be surprised about who is the
second most missionary receiving nation in the world. It is the United States of
America. America has become pagan right before our eyes.
4,000 churches close their doors every single year compared to the
1,000 new church starts.
There is less than half of the number of churches today than there were
only 100 years ago.
A. Nehemiah’s Rest
B. Nehemiah’s Review
Nehemiah 2:13-15 (NKJV) And I went out by night through the Valley
Gate to the Serpent Well and the Refuse Gate, and viewed the walls
of Jerusalem which were broken down and its gates which were
burned with fire. 14Then I went on to the Fountain Gate and to the
King's Pool, but there was no room for the animal under me to pass.
15
So I went up in the night by the valley, and viewed the wall; then I
turned back and entered by the Valley Gate, and so returned.
C. Nehemiah’s Selection
Nehemiah 2:12a (NKJV) Then I arose in the night, I and a few men

D. Nehemiah’s Secret
Takeaway;
When God has put something in your heart to do, nothing is more dangerous than
consulting with others; because most people cannot keep your God given secrets.
Nehemiah 2:17 (NKJV) Then I said to them, "You see the distress that we
are in, how Jerusalem lies waste, and its gates are burned with fire. Come
and let us build the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no longer be a reproach.
Takeaway:
If Nehemiah was going to motivate the people and rally them around the task, then
he had to identify himself with the need.
Nehemiah 2:19 (NKJV) But when Sanballat the Horonite, Tobiah the
Ammonite official, and Geshem the Arab heard of it, they laughed at us and
despised us, and said, "What is this thing that you are doing? Will you
rebel against the king?"
Takeaway:
Part of the unwritten job description of every pastor and leader is to be able to
handle criticism. If a leader never gets criticized, then most likely he isn’t doing
much.
