English Course Outline
Course Description: The semester-long program provides a venue for tertiary level students to review grammar, pronunciation and writing skills. It is also an
application of English communication skills necessary to become globally competent professionals. The program is activities-oriented and workshop-
based to ensure that students find meaning in learning.
Course Objectives: At the end of the program, the students are expected to:
Cognitive:
1. develop competence in the use of the English language through knowledge of grammar and vocabulary.
2. understand the principles of communication in general and good speaking in particular.
3. analyze career-specific situations to determine ways to communicate effectively.
4. create concepts, determine tasks and delegate roles so as to accomplish required minor and major tasks.
Affective:
1. manifest increased willingness to actively participate in various communications tasks.
2. appreciate own and other people’s varying communication styles.
3. cultivate respect for others as manifested through better interaction with classmates, teachers, etc.
Psychomotor:
1. reduce common pronunciation errors and develop a more natural intonation and speech pattern.
2. speak confidently and fluently when interacting with a classmate, a group or when in front of the class.
3. use voice and gestures to enhance meaning and foster rapport with others.
4. present required major and minor tasks.
