HEAT TRANSFER
Subject Code : BTME-602
M.Code : 71186
Time : 2 Hrs. Max. Marks : 30
1) Orange plants were placed in garden overnight in sky at temperature of 260 K. The
temperature of air is 284 K. The convective heat transfer coefficient is 1.65 W/m2 – K. The
leaves of the plant have emissivity of 0.65, Find the temperature of the orange plant leaves
under equilibrium conditions.

5) A vehicle carrying refrigeration box is moving with a speed of 24 m/s on a road with
ambient temperature of 323 K. The dimensions of box are 3 m(H) × 4 m (W) × 10 m (L).
Assume a wall temperature of 283 K and air flow is parallel to the longest side of the box.
Neglecting the heat loss from the front side and backside of the box, calculate heat loss
from four surfaces. For flow over flat surfaces use
Nu = 0.036(Re)0.8(Pr)1/3
6) In a shell and tube heat exchanger, tubes are 4m long, 31 mm outer diameter and 27 mm
inner diameter. Water is heated from 295 K to 318 K by condensing steam at 100 °C on the
outside of the tubes Water flow rate through the tubes is 10 kg/s. Heat transfer on steam
side is 5500 W/m2 – K and on water side is 850 W/m2 – K, Neglecting all other resistances,
find the number of tubes.
7) The temperature of a body of area 0.1 m2 is 900 K. Calculate the total rate of energy
emission, intensity of normal radiation in W/m2 – sr, maximum monochromatic emissive
power and the wavelength at which occurs.
