Base your answer to question 9 and 10 on the following diagram. Formulas of molecules that can
move freely across the cell membrane are shown. Some molecules are located inside the cell
and others are located outside the cell.

B. The concentration of O2 will remain the same outside the cell.
C. The concentration of CO2 remain the same outside the cell.
D. The concentration of CO2 will decrease inside the cell.

Part II: Reading Comprehension and Extension (3 points each)
Read the passage. Then, choose the best answer from the choices provided and record your
selection on the student answer sheet.
Many enzymes require non-protein helpers for catalytic activity. These helpers, called cofactors, may
be attached tightly to the active site as a permanent part of the enzyme, or they may attach loosely and
reversibly along with the substrate. The cofactors of some enzymes are inorganic, such as the
materials zinc, iorn, and copper. If the cofactor is an organic molecule, it is called a coenzyme. Most
vitamins are coenzymes themselves or they are the subunits from which coenzymes are made.
Cofactors function in many different ways, but in all cases they are necessary for catalysis to take
place.
