Q. 1: Case Study:-
Pushpa is in her early 30s and lives in the United States with her husband. Her husband was
planning to move back to India for some family reason and she has to return with him. She
has a Master’s degree from Harvard and been working in the information technology (IT)
industry from the beginning of her career, had good experience in the field and was a very
valuable asset for her firm. She had to resign because her company did not have an office in
India. Pushpa and her husband return to India and she started looking for a job. She prepared
her resume as under and uploaded it on job portals as well as sent it directly to companies’
after seeing newspaper advertisements. Since IT was booming during that time there were
number of advertisements about jobs in the sector every week and she used to await these
notifications eagerly. She got calls from some companies but rejected jobs either because she
was not satisfied with the profile or because she was unhappy with the salary offered. She
was concerned that she had not managed to get a suitable job despite her significant
experience.

Q1A) what are the shortcomings in Pushpa’s resume (5 Marks)

Ans- 1(A)
Below mentioned is the possible short coming in Pushpa’s cv:
• Incorrect formatting:
The format she has used is not appropriate. She should the divide the whole CV in
different sections segments to bring more clarity. For E.g: an ideal CV format should
have these sections.
I. Personal Information (name, email, address)
II. Academic qualification
III. Work Experiences
IV. Awards/Rewards/Recognition V. Strength
VI. Skill (Technical & Non Technical)
VII. Personal Detail (DOB, marital status, nationality, language known, personal
contact)
• Objective should be defined: objective is basically defining the goal of the person.
In pushpa’s CV the objective was not well defined as she was just stating that
“seeking a challenging job” which doesn’t define any goal.
• Half information: according to the case Pushpa have done her masters from a
Renowned institute that is HOWARD, so she should mention that in her CV this
will differentiate her CV from others. Also in her academic section, she should also
mention about her 12 and 10 which is missing in her CV.
• Unexplained gaps in CV: leaving incomprehensible gaps in your CV will jump up
with suspicion with recruiters, so you need to meet the issue head-on and explain it.
Pushpa have not talked about reason behind the gap in her employment as she was
unemployed from June 11 to November 11.
Declaration was absent: Declaration plays a vital role in a CV and it was missing in
Pushpa’s CV

Q2 B) what traits of the candidates are evaluated by the panelists of a group

discussion? Elaborate your answer with examples.
Ans-2(B)
These are some traits of candidates that are evaluated by panelists of a group discussion:
 Leadership skills:
Ability to take leadership roles and be able to lead, inspire and carry the team along to
help them achieve the group’s objectives

 Communication skills:
Candidates will be assessed in terms of clarity of thoughts, expressions and aptness of
language

 Interpersonal skills:
People skills are an important aspect of any job because at the end of the day we are
required to deal with humans. In GD, panelists asset this trait to identify that weather
the person is a team player or not.

 Persuasive skills:

The ability to analysis and persuade

 Subject knowledge
Another crucial parameter on which a candidate is judged is subject knowledge.
Whether appearing in a GD, it is extremely important to have subject knowledge of
the topic. Interviewers not only expect a candidate to speak, but they look for
matter that makes sense –this can only happen if you are well-aware of the topic
that is provided during the GD.

 Listening power
In a GD, it is important to speak and put forth your views, but it is equally important
to listen to others. This is one parameter where several candidates fail. In the attempt
to display their knowledge about the given topic, they forget that it is important to
listen to others, and then make a supportive or counter argument.

 Confidence
Being confident will help you reach great heights. If you have a valid point, but do not
put it across confidently, you might fail to earn a brownie point there. On the other
hand, if you speak with confidence, you will be noticed and people will be interested
in listening to what you have to say.

 Open-mindedness
It is good to have a point of view, but at the same time, it is also important for the
candidate to be open to new ideas and views too. Also, one of the qualities of a good
candidate is to accept what is right with a positive approach..

 Decision making ability

Candidates who possess decision making ability are sure to mark an impression on the
examiner. At any given point of time, the examiner might expect a decision from you.
If you do not know how to take a decision, you might fumble and miss out on the
chance of making it to the next round.
