INFERENCE FROM THE RESULTS:

The ward 34’s data of drinking water supply and sewage connection empathies the good
environment compare to all other wards. But the minimum exception of open drainage and untreated
drinking water source of ward 34 is happening majorly at SMP Colony remaining all other area around
Anna nagar is well developed with basic infra structure.

PROBLEM AT SMP:

Last Five year, this colony facing several problems related to sanitation and hygiene. The major
problems faced by the public are

1. Severe Mosquito problem


2. Frequent water borne diseases (particularly for children)
3. Heavy odor from the solid waste dumping station.

OBSERVATION:

Based on the field visit on 5th September 2017,the list of problem sources are

1. Solid wastes are not properly disposed inside the dumper bins. They randomly through near to
dumper bins.

2. The pipe connection between UDG and house outlets are completely damaged which leads to
severe clogging of sewage in open area and promotes mosquito breeding.

3. No proper maintenance of public space.
4. Large number of stray dogs are roaming around the locality and most of the stray dogs are
highly infected.

5. Lack of awareness on health issues due to unhygienic practices

RECOMMENTATIONS:

The problems identified are easily rectifiable but it needs people coordination. Some of the possible
recommendations are

1. Disposal of solid waste should be strictly at dumper bins not at open space.
2. Immediate replacement of outlet fixtures in all flats
3. Contraception for stray dogs.

POSSIBILITY OF ACTION:

Based on discussion with Kalagiyam members and youngster at SMP Colony they shown their interest
to restore their environment and also they requested to organize the awareness campaign.
