I. OBJECTIVES:
1. Investigate and explain what happens to materials under the application of
heat
2. Cite the conditions/factors that bring about changes in materials.
3. Give the importance of the changes takes place
4. Be cautious in using equipment that produce heat.

A. Content Standard: Materials undergo changes due to oxygen and heat

Content: Changes that Materials Undergo

(Chemical Change)
B. Performance Standard: The learner uses local, recyclable solid and/ or liquid materials in making
useful
products.

C. Learning Competency: The learner uses local, recyclable solid and/ or liquid materials in making
useful products.

II. PROCEDURE
A. Review:
Play a game. Question and answer portion
1. Each group has its own color flag to raise
2. Raise the flag if they know the answer
3. The first group to make 3 points wins the game
Question 1. What phase change took place when it form from solid to liquid?
2. Cite an example that shows change from solid to liquid
3. When the matter change from solid to gas what phase change took place?
4. Cite an example that shows change from liquid to solid
5. Does phase change important to us?
B. Establishing a purpose for the lesson
Guessing word: Arrange the Jumbled letters
CCHHANGEEMCALI
CLUE: 2 Words
 You need to be careful if you are handling this matter cause it might be
poisonous
 One word means to become different
C. Presenting examples / instances of the new lesson
1. Present the guide questions to be answered after the viewing of video.
2. Show the video clip on changes of material / Chemical Change.
Integration (ICT)
D. Discussing the new concepts and practicing new skills #1
Guide the pupils in answering the guide questions
1. What is the video all about?
2. What was the changes took place in the video?
3. What conditions or factor that bring about changes of materials?
4. Why changes happen after the application of heat?
5. Does the changes of materials after the application of heat is irreversible? And
Why?
6. What is the importance of the changes of materials took place? Is it beneficial or
harmful?
E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills

1. Ask the pupils to give standards in doing an activity.

2. Divide the class into 3 small groups.
3. Instruct the pupils which group will do the Activity 1 , 2 and 3
4. Present the rubrics in grading their work.
5. Go around and observe the pupils as they perform the activity.
6. Remind them that they will present their output in class after all of the groups are
done with their work.
RUBRICCS
POINTS INDICATORS
5 Show eagerness and cooperation to do the task, participate actively, do great
help the group
4 Show eagerness and cooperation to the task, good followers only
3 Participated but late , with teacher’s supervision
2 Activity was done but does not show eagerness to participate or cooperate
1 No interest in participating the activities

Observing Chemical change

Group 1
Burn a piece of paper in an empty can 2.
1. What changes took place when you burned the paper?
2. Did it form a new substance?
3. What factor bring about the changes.
4. Can you return the changes materials into its original form?

Group 2
Pound an empty eggshell into small pieces. Place the pieces on a saucer.
Add a teaspoonful of vinegar into them,
Question:
1. What was formed when you added vinegar to the broken pieces eggshells?
2. What does this indicate?
3. What factor bring about the changes.
4. Can you return the changes materials into its original form?

Group 3
Put a spoonful of white sugar in another empty can. Burn the sugar using a alcohol lamp
1. Describe the color, appearance and smell of burnt sugar.
2. Did white sugar change into something else? What was it?
3. What factor bring about the changes.
4. Can you return the changes materials into its original form?
A chemical change differs from physical change. In a chemical change, new and different materials
are formed. The new materials formed have properties different from the original properties . Acids
and absorption of heat are two factors needed for chemical change to occur.
When the materials burned, they turned black, unlike the original substance .Burning requires
application of heat .It may or may not be applied for a change to happen.
The presence of bubbles, change in color and release of heat Indicate a chemical change.
When a material undergoes a chemical change, the new material formed cannot be brought back
to its original form. Chemical change is an irreversible process.
Examples of chemical change are rotting mouse, ripening of mango,
Burning of chop woods, production of electricity, photosynthesis, decaying vegetables.

F. Developing mastery (leads to Formative Assessment)

How does matter undergo chemical change?

G. Finding practical application of concept and skills in daily living

Ask some household activities that they observed under chemical change.
 When your mother peels the vegetables or fruits where do you put the peelings? For
several days what do you think will happen those peelings?
 What change took place?

H. Making generalizations and abstractions about the lesson

What is a chemical change?

How the factors are affect chemical change?
Does chemical change beneficial? Why and Why not?

I. Evaluating learning

A. Encircle the letter of the best answer. (Slow learner)

Put a check before the number that shows a chemical change.

______1.Leaves are decaying
______2.Water is boiled
______3.Garbage is burned
______4.Sewing the socks
______5.rotting tomatoes
B. Complete the Graphic Organizer below showing the Chemical Change.

J. Additional activities for application or remediation

Read something about the compost pit.

Find out the chemical change that garbage undergoes.

REMARKS

REFLECTION

No. of learners who earned 80% in the evaluation

No. of learners who require additional activities for remediation who scored below 80%

Did the remedial lessons work? No. of learners who have caught up with the lesson

No. of learners who continue to require remediation

Which of my teaching strategies worked well? Why did these work?

What difficulties did I encounter which my principal or supervisor can help me solve?

What innovation or localized materials did I use/discover which I wish to share with other teachers?
