C. construct questions about parts of newspaper; and
D. use appropriate parts of newspaper in an identified question.

V. Procedure:
A. Activity: Misconception Check
The teacher shows a statement accompanying its picture to students.
Student then critiques the statement and identifies the correct answer in
every false fact that is given by the teacher.
Example statement: Miss Universe 2018 was held at Switzerland.
Answer: Not Switzerland but Thailand
B. Analysis:
1. Identification:
Did you all get the correct answers? Why?
What is the term used which talks about an information that is
reported in a newspaper and television?
What is the oldest source of information?
2. Deepening:
Do you think you can live on Rizal’s time wherein information is
spread through newspapers alone? Why?
What do you think will happen in the world if people can’t access
with news around them?
How news did helped you as an individual?
C. Abstraction:

Publication that is issued daily or weekly that contains news: information
about current events
North, East, South, West, Past And Present Event Reports
Importance of Newspaper:
1. Keep abreast of current events all over the world
2. Grievances of the people are voiced through columns of newspaper
3. It is through columns of newspaper that reformers fight against bad
customs, social prejudices and abuses
4. Busy people can form judgement on public affairs
5. Men read them and amuse their idle hours
6. Exposes bad laws
Parts of a Newspaper:
1. Headline – words printed in a large type across the top of a newspaper
article
2. Byline – short phrase or paragraph that indicates the name of the author
of an article
3. Dateline – information at the start of the story giving the location and/or
date of the story
4. Lead – first sentences of a news story informing the readers of who,
what, when, where and sometimes why and how
5. Cut – a photo or illustration
6. Cutline/caption – descriptive information appearing with the cut.
7. Photo credit – a reference to the source of the photograph
8. Nameplate – a news’s name printed in special type on the front page
9. Index – an alphabetized table of contents of the newspaper
Sections in a Newspaper:
1. News Section – always first in newspaper, talks about news like local and
international news
2. Opinion section –publishes the opinion, reactions, comments and the like
of writers. Examples are editorial writing and editorial cartooning
3. Entertainment section – contains information about movies, radio,
television and other activities for entertainment like well-known
individuals, games, puzzles, comic strips, cartoons and the daily
horoscope.
4. Sports section – updated news, issues and other about all sports
5. Lifestyle section – about feature articles something that is interesting like
food, fashion, arts, trends, music, film, gaming and variety of other
interests
6. Classified Ads section – in this section, you can find the job hiring and
advertisements which fall under headings like help or wanted, for lease or
sale, wanted to buy and personal and legal notices.
7. Obituary Section – discusses recent death of a person
D. Application:
Based on the discussion, each student is given a piece of paper to create
questions about parts of newspaper. This is placed inside the Question
Box. Then, random students pick a question from the box and answer it.
Not all are given by students, some are made by the teacher.
Student who can’t answer the question can ask help from the king or
queen of the day.
E. Assignment:
What to do: Watch the recent news tonight and choose a significant news that
catches your attention. Then, answer the following questions:
1. Which section of newspaper is the news located? Why? (10 PTS.)
2. How did that news influenced you as a person? (10 PTS.)
3. If the news is agreeable for you, what are the ways you can possibly do as a
student to support it? If not? What are the ways you can do to prevent it? (10
PTS.)
