Digital Unit Plan Template Unit Title: Ratios and Proportions Name: Paul Yoon Content Area: Math Grade Level: 7
Math Content Standards 7.RP Analyze proportional relationships and use them to solve real-world and mathematical problems. Compute unit rates associated with
ratios of fractions, including ratios of lengths, areas and other quantities measured in like or different units Recognize and represent proportional relationships between
quantities. Decide whether two quantities are in a proportional relationship, e.g., by testing for equivalent ratios in a table or graphing on a coordinate plane and
observing whether the graph is a straight line through the origin Identify the constant of proportionality (unit rate) in tables, graphs, equations, diagrams, and verbal
descriptions of proportional relationships
Big Ideas/Unit Goals Students will apply ratios and proportional reasoning to solve real world problems Students will to calculate unit rate and unit price Students will
create a 10 problem ratios and proportions quiz on Quizizz and have their classmate solve and grade their quiz using a rubric. 21 st Centurty Skills Solve proportions
and simplify ratios Apply ratios and proportion to solve word problems Recognize, determine, and apply scale
Unit Summary:
Ratios and proportions are used to compare values . They tell us how much of one thing there is compared to another.
These mathematical relationships that we see all the time in the real world. Grocery shopping, cooking, and getting from place to place are common life situations in
which ratios and proportions are prevalent and essential to correct and cost effective performance.
Students will start the unit accessing prior knowledge in regards to reading a table of matching number patterns and graph those results. Students will also need a
basic understanding of ratios, simplify (reduce), quantity, comparison, and proportion.
