    5.b Canadian stairwell pressurization:

    In this system, an exterior stairwell door opens automatically uopn system activation. In addition, the lower
    two floors will be considered opened, while the others doors will be considered closed.

    I. Opened doors section:


    Pressure difference at the bottom of the section = 12.4 Pa
    Pressure difference at the top of the section = 35.444 Pa
    Flow factor = 4.0596 m/s
    Open stairwell flow area = 0.9748 m2
    Effective flow area = 0.0964 m2
    Flow rate from this section = 0.7827 m3/s (= 1659 cfm)

    II. Closed doors section:


    Pressure difference at the bottom of the section = 37.866 Pa
    Pressure difference at the top of the section = 62.484 Pa
    Flow factor = 5.9244 m/s
    Effective flow area = 0.025 m2
    Flow rate from this section = 0.3 m3/s (= 635.69 cfm)

    III. Exterior stairwell door:


    Pressure difference at the exterior door
    (~ at 1.5m height) = 14.401 Pa
    Open exterior stairwell door effective flow area = 0.9748 m2
    Flow rate from this section = 3.1041 m3/s (= 6577 cfm)

    The total flow needed to pressurize the stairwell


    at the above conditions is the sum of these three
