CROSS SECTION OF BOX CULVERT
2.0 DESIGN CONCEPT
The box structure is designed as an integral box section. The box section is modelled in STAAD Pro as
line model along the centre lines of structure section for unit length. The boundary condition below
bottom slab is simulated by applying soil springs at each node. The soil spring stiffness is calculated as
given in "foundation analysis and design" by joseph E bowles.
IRC:6-2017 and IRC:112-2011 are used for determining the intensity of live load and width of
dispersion of live load respectiviely. The calculated loads have been applied on the model along with
other permanent loads. Load combinations are considered for design of structural members as per IRC 6
-2017 and design is carried out as per IRC 112 -2011.
3.1 DL
a Self weight = -1
b Camber slope = 2.5 %
Camber slope thickness 2.5/100 x 12.5/2 = 0.15625 m
0.15625 x 25 x 0.5 = 1.953125 kN/m
c Weight due to Earth Cushion 0.065 x 20 = 1.30 kN/m
