Univity GSM BTS S8000 Indoor DRX Extension / 3

Method 65-9883 May 21, 2004

1.0 General Information

1.1 Description
Purpose: This procedure describes the operations to perform on the
BTS site in order to extend the traffic capacity.

Equipment: This document applies to the S8000 (BCF or CBCF)

indoor. The procedure describes how to add:
• New DRX (DRX means DRX or DRX ND3 or e-DRX) and new PA
(PA means PA or e-PA or HePA)
• Eventually new combiner or/and new Rx-Splitter

Application: During the procedure the BTS is in connected mode (in

service).

Service Impact: Complete site shutdown (all the sectors are disabled)
for database re-configuration for preliminary OMC-R operations. The
service is lost during around 20 mn.

The re-configuration should be performed at night (to reduce the

occurrences of network access denied), prior to the intervention at the
BTS site.

At the OMC-R, 'soft shutdown' command allows to lock a sector without

disruption of the existing calls.

Note: When the reconfiguration is performed, some alarms will appear

at the OMC-R because the new DRX are not physically present.

Note: The communication test on a new DRX will impact loss of one
Reception path of the new DRX only, not of existing DRX(s).

still in their cardboards.
! In case of combiners upgrade, the antennas and feeders are installed
and correctly grounded, feeder terminations arrive close to the BTS
plinth/support.
! The OMC-R database has been updated to include the new
equipment data.
! The Report Sheet (refer to Appendix B – Report Sheet) gives the
sequence of operations and has been filled by the coordinator.

Step Action Observation

1 Disconnect the SMA cables from the RXM_IN

connector of all the DRX to test.
Connect a SMA male 50 Ω load on the
disconnected inlets.
Only the Diversity reception path is then
operational for these DRX.
Note: A major fault appears at the OMC-R, for the
DRX: (1067) over current alarm RX splitter

screen:
• The right BCCH frequency.
• The right BCC (BSIC is displayed on the
mobile = NCC + BCC).

5 Set up some calls on the DRX to test (a call to For OMC-R operation, the technician should

traffic activity on the cell, with Performance
Monitor tool (the technician should perform
the operation CT2).

6 Perform Step 3 to Step 5 for the other cells.

7 Report the results in the Report Sheet.

8 Open the doors of the cabinets.

9 Remove the 50 Ω SMA loads, and use the SMA

torque wrench to reconnect the radio cable.
