I wonder why short weeks always seem to be so long! We have managed to pack a lot into just 3 days this week. Our second semester has gotten off to a great start. Tomorrow you will receive your childs report card for the 2nd nine weeks as well as their CogAT scores for 2nd and 4th graders. Remember that you can follow your childs progress on Parent Portal. Next week will be an exciting week at LMES. We will begin our annual El Mercado in our Spanish classes. It is always a fun time for our students spend the pesos they earn for their class participation. Thank you to all who have made donations of items and your time to make this event possible. Or perhaps I should I say gracias! We will also have our Career Fair for our 3rd5th graders. This a fun way to expose our students to a variety of career opportunities. Mrs. Sitsch and Mrs. Hardage have compiled a wonderful group of volunteers to share their career experiences. We are very fortunate to have wonderful parents and volunteers to make this possible. Our frigid weather continues. Please remember to have your children dress for the weather. Also, have them check the Lost and Found for any missing coats or jackets. Have a great weekend and stay warm!

January is School Board Appreciation Month Thank you to our School Board Members for making D5 a great place to learn!

runs through Friday, January 31st. During this week, when students come to their Spanish class, they will be visiting el mercado to spend the pesos they earn from our classroom incentive program, Pesos por participar. If you have stuff to contribute but havent had a chance to bring it in, we are still seeking donations of items for our market from small trinkets/toys that the children can purchase for themselves to larger toys/games/stuffed animals for donations to GOoDworks of Chapin. This year, our students will be making these donations in memory of LMES dear friend, Sue Madden, former director of GOoDworks. She truly had an awesomely loving and generous spirit! We are also seeking volunteers (knowledge of Spanish not needed) to be present to help out with our activities. Help is needed for all classes! If you can volunteer, please reply to Sra. Gonzlez ([email protected]). Be sure to indicate the time you would be able to help. If you can stay for more than one class, that would be awesome (our K and 1st classes especially need extra help)! Separate volunteers will be needed for Sra. Gonzlezs (blue) and Sra. Fultzs (red) classes since each homeroom will experience their own mercado.

Lake Murray Elementary 2014 Career Fair Thursday, January 30 7:30 - 10:15 am Wanted: Working parents & volunteers willing to
share three hours of their time to excite children about their futures.
What do you have to do? Bring pictures, tools, or information about your career to share at an exhibit with our 3rd through 5th graders. Students will come by your exhibit and ask questions about your career. Why a career fair in elementary school? In anything, goals are important. While a childs career goals will change numerous times throughout his/her life, having something that youre looking forward to in the future keeps you motivated in your present. Also, its important for students to learn about the many career opportunities an dhow you can turn something thats fun into a lifelong job! Interested? E-mail Mrs. Sitsch at [email protected]. Please ensure that you put Career Fair in the subject line. Or, call Mrs. Sitsch at 476-4605. Please contact her by January 16th.

Technology Showcase:
Students have created slide shows, videos, and collages on iPads about the content they are studying in class. Due in part to successful fundraising efforts last year, each grade level has an iPad cart to use with students. Teachers have chosen samples of the technology projects and posted them on our school web site. The Technology Showcase is ready and we invite all parents to check it out by following this link! http://www.lexrich5.org/LakeMurray.cfm? subpage=90168&adminActivate=1

Changes in Dismissal.
Please remember that when making changes in your childs dismissal, it is better to send a note in the morning or call the school office no later than 1:30pm. While sending an email may seem to be an efficient way to relay a message, this can become a problem if the internet is down or if the person you are emailing is not at school. It would also be helpful if changes in dismissal were not made several days in advance. These notes can be easily misplaced. Please remember when sending a note to include your childs first and last name and their teachers name. This will help us get the notes to the correct classroom at the end of the day. Your help with this will be greatly appreciated.

Notes from the Nurse

Students Screening Follow Up
Reminder: Parents, if you receive a referral letter for vision, hearing, or dental, the results indicate the need for further evaluation. We recommend that you make your child an appointment for a professional eye, ear, or dental examination. If an appointment has been made, please notify your school nurse of the date and time. If you have already taken your child to your care provider, please send a copy of the report to the health room or have your provider fax (476-4620) a report to the school. If you are in need of assistance, there are resources available. If you have any questions, please contact the School nurse.
