MONDAYEVANGELISTIC PRAYER Chronological Bible Reading: Isaiah 13-15; Colossians 3 Monday, October 1 2 Sam. 5:23 And when David inquired of the LORD, he said, Thou shalt not go up; but fetch a compass behind them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees. Captain of the Host: David fought the Philistines and won a great victory. They came with their hosts from Philistia; David had his help from God. But when they came back again for round two, David did not go out again without first going to prayer. How can I witness without prayer? How can I lead others to Christ today unless I start out where Christ is? Sometimes I am successful with my testimony, but I still need to tarry a minute, inquire of the Lord, and ask you to bless my witness to __________ and to __________. Prov. 3:6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. Direct me today to someone who is seeking you. Do it Lord, because I cannot go to battle except it be by your strength. It is a spiritual war I am in, so it requires spiritual weapons. I need the assistance of your fellowship to be 2 Cor. 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; Help me, like David, to wait to move until your sign is given, and learn to take no step without walking in the Spirit. Sometimes I may need to lead them by a circuitous route to the cross. Guide me; I give you the rudder of my life. I want your will to be my choice always, because whenever I try to carve my own path, I always cut my fingers. If I do not watch for your providence to lead me, I mar many relationships. If you are waiting, let me patiently tarry with you. And if you are moving, let me not be afraid to boldly go forth. Instruct me and teach me in the way to reach others, for Jesus sake and glory. Amen. A DAILY PATTERN FOR PRAYER & BIBLE READING Chronological Bible Reading: Isaiah 22-24; 1 Thessalonians 2 Thursday, October 4 1 Cor. 11:26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lords death till he come. TUESDAYFOCUS ON CHRISTS LIFE Chronological Bible Reading: Isaiah 16-18; Colossians 4 Tuesday, October 2 Matt. 12:10 And, behold, there was a man which had his hand withered. And they asked him, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath days? that they might accuse him. Merciful Lord and Father: A star is placed in the margin by that opening word, behold. It is a note of exclamation that draws-in my attention. In our church we might want to say, Behold, there was a politician in our services today. Behold there was a sports figure. Behold there was a rich executive. Behold there was a star entertainer. Yet in the synagogue there was a poor man of whom the Holy Spirit took notice, and you hang out the word behold as a signal. Lord, I am a needy soul today wanting all of the Savior. I come to you with a spiritually withered handso many good things Id like to do, and so many ways Ive failed. Put a behold in my day today! Restore me by your power to what you originally created me to be. What you want to find today is somebody on whom to do a work of grace. Thats me! I am somebody you can heal, and so defy the traditional science of all the skeptics who say its not legal. You are a physician; take note of my sickness so you can illustrate your healing power. Fix your eye on my pain, my necessity, my incapacity, my sinfulness, and on everything else in me you can cure. What you want is a chance to do me good, not a pretense on my part that I can do you any good! As I come in prayer to worship, give me more than I knelt here for. I am praying, because I love your presence and I am happy to be in communion with you. But still I have a yearning to have my old life fixed-up. Today, put a red letter on my calendar in love, and make my withered hand strong in your service. Do it to glorify Jesus alone. Amen. FRIDAY CORPORATE PRAYER MINISTRY Chronological Bible Reading: Isaiah 25-27; 1 Thessalonians 3 Friday, October 5 1 Kings 9:2-3 That the LORD appeared to Solomon the second time, as he had appeared unto him at Gibeon. And the LORD said unto him, I have heard thy prayer and thy supplication, that thou hast made before me: I have hallowed this house, which thou hast built, to put my name there for ever; and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there perpetually. Dear Lord and Heavenly Father: No matter what level of spiritual maturity we are at, we still need renewed appearances, fresh manifestations, and new visitations from you. We need to walk with you, but we also need your walk with us as we live your great commission. And while we thank you for the past, and look back with joy to your presence in previous days, Lord we seek a special visitation of your Spirit right now. Daily we desire to walk in the light of your countenance, but even though the ocean has high tides twice a day, it also has leap tides. So though we seek to walk with you constantly, give us revival and bring us a special season where you open your very heart to us. Manifest yourself beyond what you do to the world, and even beyond what you do at all times to believers. Not every day are we in the temple. Not every day is a banqueting day and high feast. But give us special days ahead, glorious and clear, where you unveil your glory in our midst. Come to us again in the fullness of your favor. We seek your second appearances, Lord. We cry to you most fervently to speak a second time. We do not need to get saved again, but we need to have the windows of heaven opened anew over our heads. We need the Holy Spirit in special anointing and power. What you spoke to Solomon concerned his prayer, and as you answered his prayer in a second appearance, so also appear to us now! Renew our strength in service to you. We ask it for Jesus sake and on his merit. Amen. WEDNESDAYREVIVAL PRAYING Chronological Bible Reading: Isaiah 19-21; 1 Thessalonians 1 Wednesday, October 3 Rom. 15:13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost. My God of Hope: The only way for me to be happy and holy within myself is to have a manifestation of your Spirits power. The only way I can invade the territory of the enemy and conquer souls for Christ is if I am clothed with that same energy. The power I have for external ministry will be proportionate to my acknowledgement of the power of the Holy Spirit that dwells within me. In order to gauge the energy of the Holy Spirit in my heart, all I have to do is measure my influence on unbelievers. The work outward is always dependent on the force inward. If there is a warmth inside, there will be a melting of hearts outside. But if my souls strength is not sustained by private prayer and communion with you, the dryness in me will leave the drought in others untouched. Lord, during this fall, bless us as a church. Lord, cause your face to shine on us as a congregation. Then Harvest can make your way known upon the earth, and your saving health among all nations (Ps 67:2). Let me adore you while I am praying, and pray for the SEVEN WORKS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT necessary for revival: 1. Quickening All the spiritual life that exists in the world is a creation of the Holy Ghost. I did not even have enough life to recognize death until you visited me! I will not want more life, or groan after more revival, except as your Spirit works within me to desire and agonize for it. Give us sweet agony in a wrestling for revival today, for this will glorify Jesus. Amen. SATURDAYIN THE PSALMS Chronological Bible Reading: Isaiah 28-30; 1 Thessalonians 4 Saturday, October 6 Psa. 71:1 In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion. O Gracious Lord: You deserve my confidence, so I want you to have all of it. Every day, help me guard against any distrust of you or any reliance on myself. Every hour I need to place my faith in your faithfulness. Not only must I rest on you like a person who stands on a rock; I must trust in you like a person who hides in a cave. And my trust will be made more solid the more intimate I am with you. I may be weak, but I am in a strong place! My security rests in the strength of the tower in which I hide, and not in any other man or woman. My weakness does not work against me as long as it makes me lean more fully on you. The drawbridge is up and the bars are in place, and there is a secret door by which I can enter into your throne as often as I want to, because I can always pray. You are as accessible as you are strong on my behalf! Psa. 71:3 Be thou my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort: thou hast given commandment to save me; for thou art my rock and my fortress. Are you a strong refuge? You are MY strong refuge. You are MY rock, MY fortress, MY God (v 4), MY hope, MY trust (v 5), MY praise (v 6). If I am strong, it is in you. If I am safe, it is because you shelter me. If I am calm and at peace, it is because my soul has found its resting place of security in you alone. Psa. 71:14 But I will hope continually, and will yet praise thee more and more. When I cannot rejoice in what I have, I will look forward to what will be mine, and rejoice in the future blessing. Though Hell itself stands in my way, Psa. 71:16 I will go in the strength of the Lord GOD: I will make mention of thy righteousness, even of thine only.

PRAYER DIARY
Baptists tend to ridicule liturgical churches that use "prepared prayers" because they lack spontaneity. But for many Baptists, their prayers are so predictable they are no more spontaneous than written-out prayers. The result is we end up praying the same things over and over. This daily Prayer Diary will prompt you on a wide range of prayer requests you might not normally think of, while forcing you to articulate a deeper devotion to God. We have included a daily Bible reading schedule. This plan will take you through the Bible chronologically in a year. Do not read ahead and do not try to catch up. Use each day as it comes. Then you can know that on any given day, dozens of other people are lifting their hearts in the same mind to God. Pray what is written, but use what is prayed as a springboard for your own relationship with God. You learn to pray by praying. Alan
Secret prayer is the secret of prayer, the soul of prayer, the seal of prayer, the strength of prayer. If you do not pray alone you do not pray at all. Our Lord Jesus Christ would go nowhere till He had prayed. He would attempt nothing till He had prayed. Oh, says one, I live in the spirit of prayer, and therefore I do not need times and seasons for prayer. And do you think that Christ did not live in the spirit of prayer? Yet He had to have his special time and place to pray. Do not fall under the injurious notion that because your spirit cries to God in prayer all day long, therefore there must not be some season for more immediately coming into Gods presence. If you imagine this, I am afraid that it will prove a snare to your feet. The Lord Jesus Christ, who knew better than you do that the main thing is the spirit of prayer rather than the act of prayer, yet Himself retired into desert places to maintain the act and exercise of prayer. Be spiritual. Be baptized into the spirit of prayer. But do not be deceived by the enemy, who can steal a spirit away while we dream that we only spiritualize it. We had better preserve the very bones of prayerthe posture, the time, placerather than let it all ooze away into an impalpable mental condition. God keep us prayerful. He will do so if He makes us like His dear Son. Charles H. Spurgeon, 1834-92
