Relay For Life Letter

Dear Friends and Family of Brenda Woodward,
Team Brenda will be participating in the Cache County Relay for Life again this summer and are currently recruiting
volunteers! It will be held July 8-9th at Blue Sox Field in Smithfield.
The Relay for Life is a fundraising event that helps celebrate the lives of people who have battled or are battling cancer,
remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. At the Relay For Life teams camp out at a local high
school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a
representative on the track at all times during the event. Because cancer never sleeps, Relays are overnight events up to
24-hours in length. The Relay has become a global phenomenon that raises much-needed funds and awareness to save
lives from cancer. Last year our team had a goal of raising $1,000 and thanks to your support and generosity, we came
so close! This year we hope to double our money raised and collect $2,000.
As you all know, Brenda has been battling cancer now for over five years. She has had many ups and downs but
continues to fight. Everyone has been wonderful and very supportive throughout this time and we know that she
appreciates all that has been done for her. She is planning on attending the Relay this year and it would be awesome if
you could show your support too.
There are several ways that you can help our team.
1- Become a member of Team Brenda. We need a lot of team members to help raise funds. The American Cancer
Society has given each team member a fundraising goal of $100+ that they can collect however they like. You
do not have to be present at the Relay to be a team member. The $100 needs to be raised and turned in by
June 9th if you would like a Relay for Life t-shirt, but can still be turned in no later than the closing ceremony of
the Relay on July 9th. You can log on to the Relay for Life Team Brenda web page for more information as well
as to sign up.
2- Make a monetary donation for our team. Donations can be made by credit card on the Team Brenda web page,
by check (made out to the American Cancer Society), or cash, and then given to any team member. Note:
Receipts are not usually given so if you need proof for tax purposes, be sure to pay with a credit card or check.
3- Make a prize donation for our drawing at the Relay. This year Team Brenda will have a prize drawing booth set
up and tickets will be sold for $3 each or 2 for $5 with all money going towards our team goal. Each ticket will
have a number that coordinates to a specific prize so that after a ticket is purchased, the buyer will walk away
with their prize. We are hoping to collect 100-200 items. Anything counts as a prize and we need a variety to
attract people to our booth! A can of pop, blankets, toys, homemade picture frames, binoculars, crank radio,
heated seat cushion, and a photo frame keychain are some of the things I’ve collected so far. There is no prize
too big or too small that we won’t accept!
4- Take a lap for our team. The Relay starts at noon on Friday, July 8 th, and closes at noon on Saturday, July 9 th.
We need to have someone representing our team and walking/running on the track at all times. Jeremy &
Shannon have a sign-up sheet with 1-hour slots available that will be assigned on a “first come, first serve”
basis, so if you would like a specific time frame then call or email quick!!! We will start reserving times on May
2nd. Come just to walk your hour or stay for the full 24 hours!
The Cache County Relay for Life is a great opportunity to get together and raise money for a good cause while honoring
Brenda by doing it in her name. Last year was a lot of fun and we hope this year will be even bigger and better! Please
