To Find the Coefficient of Venturimeter

Objectives :
( a ) to familiar our self with the working of venturimeter.
( b ) to find the coefficient of Venturimeter.

Theory Background :
Venturimeter :
it is a device used to measure the flow speed of fluid.
Its schematic diagram is shown below :

d 1 = 27 mm = 0.027 m
d 2=13.5 mm = 0.0135 m
H = H1 H2
a 1 = d 12 = 0.00057255 m2

Where
Q = discharge
Cd = coefficient of Venturimeter
d1 = Inlet diameter
d2 = Outlet diameter

Experimental Procedure :

First of place the venturimeter apparatus on the hydraulic bench.

Now connect the inlet of venturimeter with the sump supply.
Turn on the supply from the flow regulator.
Adjust the flow regulator in such a way that the water should not touch
the extreme points of the peizometers attached to the inlet and throat.
Now wait a little bit until the water gets stabilize level in the peizometer glass tubes.
Now if there is a fluctuation in the levels of water present in peizometer tubes then
take the reading by taking the mean of upper and lower level reading of
fluctuating water level.
H1 will be the pressure head at inlet section.
H2 will be the pressure head at throat.
H is the difference of pressure head at inlet and pressure head at throat.
Now calculate the discharge = Q = V/ t by noting the volume collected in
the volumetric tank and the time taken by it .
Finally find the coefficient of venturimeter by the formula.
