How accurate is theory of Bar ?
The theory of bar is a theory of internal force, or stress resultant. It neglects many details. Such as shear stress and shear deformations. It also assumes that stress distribution is uniform over the cross section of the bar. Is this accurate ? If it is not 100 % accurate, is it a good approximation ? How much confidence do we have on such theory ?
