Representations of femininity

Análisis de la representación femenina, de su imagen e indumentaria en el ciclo cultural que avanza del Romanticismo al período de Entreguerras, clave en el espectro socio-cultural catalán contemporáneo. Se atiende a las artes plásticas y en particular a la literatura teatral y narrativa, en un proceso acorde con la progresiva liberación de la mujer. Comentario literario centrado en obras de Carles Soldevila y Maria Teresa Vernet como narradores, y de Avel•lí Artís y Carme Montoriol.

This article examines the popular Brazilian spirit entity Pomba Gira as an embodiment of transgressive female power. It surveys the main features that characterize Pomba Gira in the stories, songs, and imagery through which her mythology circulates, and then discusses some of the practical implications of these
characteristics in the lives of her devotees.

Тема девичества, зачастую тесно соотносимая с концептами красоты и неуловимости, наделенная поэтической аурой, издавна привлекает внимание людей искусства. В современных голливудских фильмах, од­нако, она, напротив, ассоциируется с деградацией. За редким исклю­чением героини голливудских фильмов, ориентированных на девушек и молодых женщин (например, «Жижи» (Minnelli 1958), «Маленькая колдунья» (Walker 1989), «Бестолковые» (Heckerling 1995), «Дневники принцессы», известный также под названием «Как стать принцессой» (Marshall 2001), «Блондинка в законе» (Luketic 2001) и «Дьявол носит Prada» (Frankel 2006)), «взрослеют» по ходу сюжета, превращаясь из не­вежественных, наивных и безрассудных созданий в зрелых женщин, образ которых больше соответствует традиционному. Обычно этой трансформации способствует участие старших персонажей и следова­ние ролевым моделям. В последнее время в голливудских сюжетах все чаще встречаются молодые героини, тяготеющие к активным действи­ям. Как правило, это девушка-сорванец с мальчишескими ухватками (Джуно в одноименном фильме (Reitman 2007)), маргинализованный персонаж (Энид в «Призрачном мире» (Zwigoff 2001)) или женщина в «мужском» наряде, подчеркивающем ее физическую и психологиче­скую состоятельность (таковы, например, Элизабет из «Пиратов Кариб­ского моря» (Pirates of the Caribbean; Verbinski 2003–2007), Алиса из «Алисы в стране чудес» (Burton 2010) или Белоснежка из фильма «Бело­снежка и охотник» (Sanders 2012). Эти фильмы органично вписываются в устоявшуюся картину мира популярной культуры, в рамках которой девичество наделяется негативными коннотациями и трактуется как состояние пассивное. Считается, таким образом, что юная женщина должна как можно скорее продемонстрировать свое соответствие тра­диционным моделям поведения и занять предназначенное ей место в социуме — преимущественно благодаря физической трансформа­ции (Driscoll 2002: 221).

Альтернативой этому пути служит откровенно «мужская/мальчишеская» манера поведения как необходимое условие независимости и осуществления функций субъекта (Allison 2000: 275). Отмечалось также, что героини кинофильмов, как правило, изобра­жаются с точки зрения их (гетеросексуальных) отношений с персо­нажами-мужчинами (O’Shaughnessy 1999: 98; Fournier 2007: 375–376). Отрицательный образ девичества в фильмах отражает социальную тенденцию, согласно которой юная женщина находится в кризисном состоянии и нуждается в помощи взрослого. Отмечалось, что новост­ные программы на американских телеканалах конструируют нега­тивный образ девичества, ассоциирующийся с низкой самооценкой, искаженным телесным образом и расстройством пищевого поведения (Mazzarella & Pecora 2007: 19). Соответственно, создается впечатление, что юные женщины и в особенности девочки-подростки виктимны по определению. При этом голоса самостоятельных, уверенных в себе и деятельных девушек остаются не услышанными. Стереотипные пред­ставления о «мужественности» в равной степени оказывают негатив­ное воздействие на мальчиков и мужчин (Bem 1993; Beynon 2001: 11; Pease 2002: 27), и юноши в Северной Америке и Австралии значитель­но чаще, чем их сверстницы, предпринимают попытки самоубийства, заканчивающиеся смертельным исходом (Canetto & Sakinofsky 1998; Möller-Leimkühler 2003). Несмотря на это, однако, некоторые авторы рассматривают маскулинные стереотипы как более позитивные и даже желательные по сравнению с представлениями о девичестве (Lees 1993; Thompson 1995). Это соответствует общей социальной тенденции, про­являющей себя даже в детском поведении: отказ от «женственности» воспринимается как претензия на власть (Paechter 2006: 257). Та же тен­денция находит отражение и в американских кинофильмах, где «деви­ческая» женственность ассоциируется с простодушием, беспечностью и невежественной невинностью.

La mitología propia del cómic estadounidense de superhéroes, con difusión transcultural globalizada, amplió su espacio original de las viñetas con la llegada de sus argumentos y personajes a la ficción de los medios audiovisuales, una expansión intermedial que prosiguió y se acentuó en el S. XXI. Además de esta apertura del cómic al espacio expresivo de otros medios de comunicación, se subrayará aquí su necesaria apertura al espacio reflexivo académico y educativo, planteando la oportunidad de analizar crítica e intertextualmente, con fines coeducativos, la feminidad (anti)superheróica del personaje de la editorial Marvel: Jean Grey, personaje procedente del longevo cómic X-Men (Stan Lee y Jack Kirby, 1963) y llevado al cine por última vez para protagonizar Dark Phoenix (Simon Kinberg, 2019). 

Give an overview of aspects of the relationship between animals and humans in pre-Christian religious practice and belief. Include an example. "Women and Cats: Animals in pre-Christian belief" Animals are not just other forms of beings with whom we share out planet; in fact, we could argue that we share our culture with them as well. Animals have been a significant element of human culture since the dawn of civilization, either as representations, symbols, deities or companions 1. The pre-Christian religion is no exception to that rule; animal forms and symbols seem to have played a significant part of people's life and conceptualization. In this brief text, I will focus on the cultural importance of cats for Old Norse people, their disputable connection 2 with seidr 3 and the feminine domain. I will focus on two main examples; goddess Freyja's cat chariot 4 and the Oseberg Ship Burial. As Hedeager has underlined (2011) animals were an integral part of the Pre-Christian belief system and the cosmic world. Abstract and Methodology. The methodology followed in this article uses various sources of materials. On one hand, it studies photographs, some of which are mate-rial resulting from artistic performances, and on the other, it analyses bibliographic documents, which has enabled us to develop our current research into the body of the muscular female body. We should also mention our participation in “Posar el cos. Activismes Feministes i Queer”, a course carried out at the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona, which allowed us to understand the rupture of dualism and how difficult it is to show that which goes beyond the limits of the con-ventional, the standard, the norm, the dual, the stereotype, with special emphasis on the woman-man binomial.It is well-known that the body of a woman is unsteady, unsafe ground, com-parable even with the uncertainty of quicksand. Her genetic predisposition conditions her to this turmoil, which is largely linked to hormonal factors. She has always been conditioned by these factors, including in her social role as career. At the same time, and in line with Foucauldian thought, the discourse surrounding the image of the female body forms part of a complex power mechanism in which women are enmeshed in postmodern society. But what happens when she takes control over her own body in search of empowerment? What happens when she tries to tame and control her own body so she can break free of the pre-established order? Is this gesture an act of freedom? Or is it the opposite; that is, it is giving way to a new form of imprisonment? How should we understand the muscular woman’s body?Our study analyses the body of the muscular woman in order to understand what implications and intentions are behind this act and to determine if this act is ultimately subversive or not. Representations & manifestations of femininity differ across cultures, time and societies and to a larger extent, the media. Images of women’s representation in media have restrained women’s body, mind, and soul to serve male goals. The aim of the study has been pursuing to espy the reasons for the illustration of female appeals as eye-candy in the mass media. The study concludes that women's representation in mass media affect our society and women’s self-identity.
