Seventeen (17) species of the subfamily sorubiminae with commercial importance for the Orinoquia and Amazonia are registered in this survey.
New records for the country, specific key, distribution data and illustrations are included in order to facilitate the identification of them.

Se presenta el primer inventario ictiológico realizado en la cuenca media del río Balsas en el PN Darién, Panamá con el objetivo de determinar la composición y distribución de las poblaciones de peces de agua dulce. Para ello se hicieron colectas con chinchorros, redes de mano y atarraya en nueve sistemas ribereños durante 1997. Se colectaron un total de 511 individuos pertenecientes a 40 especies, 38 géneros y 17 familias de peces de agua dulce. El 79 % del total de peces colectados lo constituyeron los peces primarios (incluyendo 12 sardinas de río y siete chupapiedras) con un total de 405 individuos. Se encontraron nueve especies de peces secundarios, principalmente mojarras y parivivos, así como cuatro especies de peces periferales. Las especies más abundantes y representativas colectadas fueron R. occidentalis, A. fasciatus, A. coeruleopunctatus, G. atracaudatus y C. affinis. Se encontraron 11 especies de peces de agua dulce endémicas, las cuales fueron B. argenteus, G. atracaudatus, H. dariensis, P. arnoldi, L. planiceps, R. altipinnis, S. citurensis, A. calobrensis, G. crassilabris, V. tuyrensis y R. chucunaque. Se adicionan 38 nuevos registros en la cuenca del río Balsas, así como de la confirmación de la presencia de P. starksii.

The present study deals with ichthyofaunal diversity of Hiran-II reservoir, Gujarat. Sampling was carried out on monthly basis from January 2019 to February 2020. Total 23 species from 6 orders, 10 families and 19 genera were recorded during the present study. The range of water parameters such as temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen alkalinity and hardness were recorded and found suitable for fish production. Dominant family Cyprinidae with 12 species and 08 genera followed by Bagridae with 03 species 02 genera and other all families Claridea, Heteropneustidae, Cichilidae, Channidae, Gobiidae, Belonidae, Mastacembelidae, Poecilidae and Anguilidae contributed single species with single genera. Regarding conservation status out of 23 fish species 21 species least concern and 2 species near threaten. During month of December (post monsoon) highest fish diversity was found. Seasonal diversity indices such as Shannon-Wiener species diversity, Pielou's evenness, Margalef's species richness, were calculated based on the abundance of fish species to access the ecosystem health of Hiran-II reservoir. These studies will be help for the maintenance and regulation of Ichthyofauna and other aquatic ecosystem of the Hiran-II reservoir.

Bu çalışmada Karadeniz havzasında seçilen 14 lokasyondan toplanan Alburnoides bipunctatus (Bloch, 1782)'un popülasyon içi ve popülasyonlar arası varyasyonları, tür içindeki farklılıkların açıklanması amacıyla morfometrik karakterler kullanılarak çalışılmıştır. Metrik karakterler üzerine uygulanan ayırma fonksiyonu analizi (DFA) ve kümeleme analizi (CA), Karadeniz havzasının Batı, Doğu ve Orta bölgelerindeki örnekleri morfolojik açıdan farklı üç popülasyon olarak sınıflandırmıştır. Morfometrik karakterler ve çok değişkenli analizler, Doğu Karadeniz havzasındaki popülasyonların Alburnoides fasciatus'a yakın olduğunu göstermiştir. Ayrıca Orta Karadeniz Bölgesi'ni temsil eden Bafra bölgesindeki popülasyonun diğer bölgelerden farklılık gösterdiği belirlenmiştir. /
In this study, inter and intra-population variations of cyprinid fish Alburnoides bipunctatus (Bloch, 1782) collected from selected 14 localities in Black Sea basin, Turkey, were studied by using morphometric characters for explaining differentiation within the species. Discriminant function analysis (DFA) and cluster analysis (CA) applied on metric characters, indicated that samples from Western, Eastern and Middle regions of Black Sea basin were classified into three morphologically distinct populations. Morphometric characters and multivariate analyses showed that the Eastern Black Sea basin populations are similar to Alburnoides fasciatus. Also population from Bafra region that represents Middle Black Sea region is well differentiated from other regions.

Puntius nelsoni, a new species of the family cyprinidae, is distinguished from its congeners by the
following combination of characters: body and fins yellowish; a narrow bluish green mark present on
summit of occiput; a thin black band present outer to operculum; barbels short and never reach orbit;
head wide and deep; snout shorter; vent located away from ventral fin origin; caudal peduncle long;
scales between lateral line and dorsal fin 5 ½ and pre dorsal scales 9. Systomus chryseus, new species,
differs from its relative species in having an unusually elongated body, golden to yellowish golden color
on flanks, pectoral, pelvic and anal fins orange red; pectoral fin long and its tip reaches origin of ventral
fin; lateral line scales 29-30 and pre dorsal scales 11. Systomus rufus, new species, differs from its
congeners in having a deeper body; dorsal fin situated nearer to caudal fin base than snout tip and a little
behind ventral origin; dorsal fin green and other fins red; 11-12 pre dorsal scales, 30 lateral line scales
and 6½ scales between lateral line and dorsal fin base. The new species of fishes are described and

A study on the fishes of Bajaur agency was conducted from 2004 to 2010. A total of sixteen (16) fish species were identified belonging to 4 orders, 5 families and 12 genera. Family Cyprinidae was the richest family represented by nine species viz, Puntius ticto, Puntius conchonius, Barilius modestus, Barilius pakistanicus, Barilius vagra, Crossocheilus diplocheilus, Salmophasia punjabensis, Carassius auratus and Schizothorax plagiostomus. Family Nemacheilidae was represented by three species Triplophysa naziri, Schistura alepidota and Naemacheilus pakistanicus whereas two species Channa gachua and Channa punctatus of Family Channidae were also identified. Family Mastacembelidae and Sisoridae were represented by a single specie viz, Mastacembelus armatus, and Glyptothorax punjabensis respectively. Most fishes collected from this area are of great economic importance and local people rely on them as a source of cheap, rather cost free protein.

Sisorid catfish genus Glyptothorax Blyth is represented in Pakistan by six species, viz., Glyptothorax sufii Bashir & Mirza, Glyptothorax cavia (Hamilton), Glyptothorax pectinopterus (McClelland), Glyptothorax stocki Mirza & Nijssen, Glyptothorax kashmirensis Hora, Glyptothorax punjabensis Mirza & Kashmiri. These are recorded from different foot hill streams and adjoining plains. After detailed analysis G. naziri is found to be a synonym of G. kashmirensis Hora; G. telchitta sufii Bashir and Mirza has been validated as full species G. sufii. Presently recognized species are easily identifiable on the basis of general body shape, sucker shape, length of barbels, fin structure, number of serrations on dorsal and pectoral spines and number of gill rakers.

Kolavoi Lake is a perennial water resource for human consumption also helpful for the agriculture and
fisheries in Chengalpet. Keeping a view that ichthyofaunal diversity of Kolavoi Lake is correlated to aquatic
ecosystem; the present investigation was carried out for one year (April 2012-March 2013). Fishes were collected from the catch of
local fisherman at three different stations of lake. Initially fishes were identified by vernacular name and common name as named
by local fishermen and then identification and classification were made. The present study revealed that the collected ichthyofauna
belongs to seven orders; twelve families; sixteen genera and twenty one species. Of these, family Cyprinidae was dominant over other
families. The study represent that Kolavoi Lake is rich of fish diversity and sustains high productivity.

An alphabetic list with the scientific names of all known recent freshwater fish species is presented. Also listed are the English and Dutch vernacular names in use for freshwater fishes and the various English (common) names of the freshwater aquarium fishes.

The aim of this publication is six-fold:
• to list the currently valid and correctly written scientific name of every recent freshwater fish species;
• to stimulate the use of correctly written scientific names;
• to list Dutch and some frequently used English vernacular names of freshwater aquarium fishes and freshwater aquacultural fishes;
• to list some scientific names wrongly used by aquarists;
• to present some aquarium book citations;
• to present an overview of the freshwater and brackish water fishes recorded during the last centuries in various aquarium books.

Although many scientific names are likely to change with scientific progress, we nevertheless present the list of currently valid scientific names now. This current list can already be used for finding the currently valid names and the correct spelling of these names. Further it cites the use of the names in the aquarium literature and the list also provides an overview of the known species of freshwater fish.

We also provide the largest freshwater aquarium fish bibliography ever published.

We hope the freshwater fish name list will stimulate the use of correctly written scientific names and bring some stabilization in the use of common names.

Four species of fishes, Rasbora cf. volzi, R. cf. elegans, R. cf. trifasciata, and R. cf. bankanensis, are described from Southeastern Kalimantan. Description is done by measuring morfometrics, counting meristics, seeing the color pattern, and tested by PCA. Rasbora cf. volzi is distinguished from the other species by having the black medial lateral stripe forming a thick line, basal reticulation covering five longitudinal scale rows from dorsal lateral line, and peripheral reticulation covering
four longitudinal scale rows along dorsolateral portion of body. Rasbora cf. elegans is distinguished from the other species by having the black medial lateral stripe forming a square profile in the middle of their body, basal reticulation covering four longitudinal scale rows from dorsal lateral line, and peripheral
reticulation covering three longitudinal scale rows along dorsolateral portion of body. Rasbora cf. trifasciata is distinguished from the other species by having basicaudal spot, having one scale between lateral line and ventral fin, and having circumferential formula ½ 4, 1, 1 ½. Rasbora cf. bankanensis is distinguished from the other species by not having basicaudal spot, having two scale between lateral line and ventral fin, having a black spot in anal fin rays, and having
circumferential formula ½ 4, 1, 2 ½. These species are from the Rasbora sumatrana-Group (Rasbora cf. volzi and R. elegans), and the Rasbora trifasciata-Group (R. cf. trifasciata and R. cf. bankanensis).

A checklist of the fishes of Kerala State is presented, along with their scientific and common names (English and Malayalam), endemism, IUCN Red List status, listing under different Schedules of the Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act and in the Appendices of Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Flora and Fauna (CITES). Nine Hundred and five species of fishes are recorded from the inland and marine waters of Kerala comprising of 41 orders and 172 families. Close to 30% of the freshwater fish species found in Kerala are endemic to the State. Only 8% of the total fishes of Kerala are listed as threatened in the IUCN Red List, of which the majority are freshwater species. Several hundred fish species occurring in the marine waters of Kerala have not yet been assessed for their conservation status by IUCN.

Los tiburones, rayas y quimeras son especies acuáticas agrupadas en la Clase Condrictios, caracterizadas por tener
esqueleto de cartílago, escamas placoideas y órganos copuladores externos en los machos (llamados cláspers).
Estos animales ocupan diversos ambientes tanto marinos, como estuarinos y dulceacuícolas, y diversas zonas,
desde la zona tropical a las zonas polares. En Colombia, varias especies de tiburones y rayas pueden ser
observadas in situ en diversos ambientes, teniendo los mismos un gran valor ecológico y turístico. Así mismo,
muchos de ellos (incluyendo las quimeras) son susceptibles de ser capturados en diversas pesquerías, teniendo
algunos de ellos valor comercial y otros siendo simplemente descartados por carecer del mismo.
De cualquier forma, Colombia, considerado un país megadiverso tanto por las flora como por la fauna acuática y
terrestre, lo es así mismo por la diversidad de especies de condrictios, contando con 126 especies confirmadas para
las áreas marinas y dulceacuícolas de Colombia, correspondientes a 63 especies de tiburones, 60 de rayas y 3 de
quimeras.
Esta guía está dirigida tanto a la comunidad en general, con miras a divulgar la biodiversidad de este grupo de
animales en nuestro país, así como a estudiantes, investigadores, observadores, pescadores, administradores
locales y regionales pesqueros y ambientales que desarrollan diversas actividades relacionadas con los condrictios.
Así, se espera aportar en el adecuado aprovechamiento y manejo de estos recursos, como parte integral del Plan de
Acción Nacional para la conservación y manejo de tiburones, rayas y quimeras de Colombia (PAN-Tiburones),
liderado por la autoridad pesquera, INCODER.

The present study was conducted to determine the diversity of fish communities in River Kabul at Michini, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pakistan from June to November, 2011. During the study period, a total of 23 freshwater fish species were recorded belonging to 6 orders, 9 families and 19 genera. Cyprinidae was the most dominant family represented by 11 species including Barilius vagra, Rasbora daniconius, Cirrhinus mrigala, Labeo diplostomus, Puntius ticto, Puntius sophore, Tor macrolepis, Crossocheilus diplocheilus, Garra gotyla, Carassius auratus and Cyprinus carpio. Family Sisoridae was represented by 4 species consisting of Bagarius bagarius, Glyptothorax naziri, Glyptothorax punjabensis, and Glyptothorax stocki. Family Channidae was embodied to two species: Channa punctata and Channa gachua. The other 6 families were represented by a single specie each i.e. family Cobitidae by Botia birdi, family Siluridae by Wallago attu, family Schilbeidae by Clupisoma naziri, family Heteropneustidae by Heteropneusteus fossilis, family Mastacembelidae by Mastacembelus armatus and family Cichlidae by Oreochromis niloticus. Based on the findings from the present study it was concluded that River Kabul has got high ichthyic diversity, which can serve as the back bone of the economy for the study area if proper management is carried out.

Eighty-three species of finfish belonging to 13 Orders, 35 Families, and 69 genera including three exotic species, and 10 species of shellfish (crustaceans) under one order, 3 families and 3 genera were identified from the River Halda during September 2004 to December 2011. Thus a total of 93 species of Ichthyofauna (finfish and shellfish) were recorded from this river during the seven years (2004-2011) of investigation. Maximum number of finfish species were recorded under the family Cyprinidae (19 species) followed by the family Gobiidae (11 species), whereas maximum number of shellfish species were recorded under the family Palaemonidae (8 species) followed by Penaeidae (1 species) and Portunidae (1 species). Of the 83 finfish species, three belonged to the critically endangered, nine to the endangered and eight to the vulnerable category according IUCN (2000). Four species of finfish were new records from inland waters of Bangladesh. A systematic list of the ichthyofauna with local and English names, and habitat preference are provided.

A taxonomic study was conducted to evaluate the systematic status of two cyprinid genera, Horadandia and Rasboroides. Comparison of all congeners of Horadandia and Rasboroides confirmed as two distinct genera in the tribe Rasborini by means of morphology (external
morphology and osteology) and morphometry. Horadandia (i.e.brittani+atukorali) differs from Rasboroides (vaterifloris+nigromarginatus+pallidus+a new species) by a consistent set of autoapomorphies: (a) absence/ presence of bifurcation at posterior end of kinethmoid; (b) anterior boarder of cleithrum in ventral view either concave/ convex; (c) absence/ presence of sensory canals in infraorbital bones; (d) absence/ presence of a concavity before the coronoid process of dentary; (e) pharyngeal teeth surface ornamentation, either with grooves/ cusps; (f) absence/ presence of 6th hypural. In addition to those, following characters, which have been
used to diagnose these two genera were repeated and confirmed in the present study: (a) absence/presence of a bowl-shaped depression on the supraethmoid; (b) attachment of Baudelot’s ligament on the dorsal part of the cleithrum, to distal end or not at the distal end;
(c) number of rows of pharyngeal teeth either two/ three; and (d) lateral line absent or present (when present, incomplete). Comparisons of putative topotypes of Rasboroides vaterifloris with materials collected from several locations including the locations of Deraniyagala’s subspecies of Rasboroides in the southwestern wet zone quarter of Sri Lanka (including Rakwana hills) revealed that R. vaterifloris actually represents four different species. Present study uncovered, two subspecies of Rasboroides identified as distinct species and described a new species of Rasboroides as well. Horadandia atukorali brittani is resurrected as a distinct species. Thus, Horadandia atukorali, Rasboroides nigromarginatus and R. pallidus are three new additions to the endemic freshwater fish list of Sri Lanka. Rasboroides vaterifloris appears to be a relatively uncommon fish in Gilimale forest. Rasboroides nigromarginatus is restricted to the Atweltota (near Matugama), whereas R. pallidus has a stable population in the Bentara,
Gin, Polatumodera and Nilwala rivers. The new species found from Walawe River is the first record of the genus from Walawe river. Horadandia atukorali is a widespread species in the low land (North-western, Western and Southern Provinces) areas of Sri Lanka, whereas
Horadandia brittani is endemic to South India (Kottayam and Pondicherry areas). To investigate the physico-chemical parameters suitable for distribution of Rasboroides pallidus, five sites were selected in the Gin River, of which R. pallidus was recorded only from two sites (i.e., Kottawa and Kanneliya). Physico-chemical parameters of both Kottawa and Kanneliya were showed more or less similar values. Except Kosmulla (in the Sinharaja forest), the other locations in which R. pallidus was not observed were within secondary forests and/ or polluted. Kosmulla site was a torrent, but similar to the type locality of R.
vaterifloris. Physico-chemical parameters of Kosmulla might not be favourable for Rasboroides. Results on the velocity (flow rate), substrate and depth were in accordance with the previous study of R. vaterifloris conducted at Ginigathhena (a locality in the Mahaweli River). Present study concludes that Rasboroides pallidus is a habitat specialist, confined to Kanneliya and Kottawa in the Gin River. With the onset of monsoon, breeding of Rasboroides pallidus was observed.

Fishes are the most diverse group of vertebrates and the most important aquatic fauna, directly or indirectly related to human well-being. West Bengal is a Nadimatrik state i.e., land nourished by rivers with a total freshwater about 272380 ha area. However, despite the huge water resource, the knowledge of fish diversity is very inadequate, especially in northern part of West Bengal, known as North Bengal. This dearth of information on ichthyofauna is a big obstacle for promoting, resurrecting and conserving the fish variety present in the variety of freshwater habitats present here. This review is an attempt to provide a systematic catalog of fish species recorded so far in this area, along with thei local names, economic importance and conservation status. Attempt has also been made to enlist the possible threats to survival of these fish varieties and their conservation strategies. As many as 177 species of freshwater fishes, belonging to families have been found to be recorded in various freshwater habitats in this area.

Two new species of Corydoras are described from the rio Madeira basin, Brazil. The intermediate long-snouted new species can be distinguished from its congeners by presenting the following combination of features: posterior margin of dorsal-fin spine with laminar serrations directed towards the origin of the spine; presence of two longitudinal black stripes on flanks; anterior portion of dorsal fin with sparse black chromatophores, not forming any conspicuous pattern; absence of a conspicuous black marbled coloration pattern on head; black spots on caudal fin, some spots arranged, forming transversal bars; and brownish dorsal-fin spine. The short-snouted new species can be distinguished from its congeners by the following combination of features: short mesethmoid; posterior laminar expansion of infraorbital 2 very reduced, not in contact with compound pterotic; two or three longitudinal black stripes on flanks; absence of an oblique or vertical black blotch across the eye; anterior portion of dorsal fin with sparse black chromatophores, not forming any conspicuous pattern; and ventral surface of trunk naked or covered by sparse platelets. A espécie nova de focinho longo intermediário pode ser distinguida de suas congêneres por apresentar a seguinte combinação de características: margem posterior do espinho da nadadeira dorsal com serrilhas laminares direcionadas para origem do espinho; presença de duas faixas pretas longitudinais nos flancos; porção anterior da nadadeira dorsal com cromatóforos pretos esparsos, sem formar nenhum padrão conspícuo; ausência de um padrão de coloração marmoreado de preto conspícuo na cabeça; manchas pretas na nadadeira caudal, algumas delas alinhadas, formando barras transversais; e espinho dorsal amarronzado. A espécie nova de focinho curto pode ser distinguida de suas congêneres por apresentar a seguinte combinação de características: mesetmóide curto; expansão laminar posterior do infraorbital 2 muito reduzida, sem contato com o pterótico composto; duas ou três faixas pretas longitudinais nos flancos; ausência de uma mancha preta oblíqua ou vertical através do olho; porção anterior da nadadeira dorsal com cromatóforos pretos esparsos, sem formar nenhum padrão conspícuo; e superfície ventral do tronco nua ou coberta por plaquetas esparsas.

The systematics of the Galaxias olidus hyper-species complex from south-eastern, mainland Australia is revised. Galaxias olidus Günther 1866 is redescribed, Galaxias fuscus Mack 1936 and Galaxias ornatus Castelnau 1873, previously synonymised with G. olidus (sensu lato), are reinstated as valid taxa and redescribed, and 12 taxa are described as new: Galaxias aequipinnis sp. nov., Galaxias arcanus sp. nov., Galaxias brevissimus sp. nov., Galaxias gunaikurnai sp. nov., Galaxias lanceolatus sp. nov., Galaxias longifundus sp. nov., Galaxias mcdowalli sp. nov., Galaxias mungadhan sp. nov., Galaxias oliros sp. nov., Galaxias supremus sp. nov., Galaxias tantangara sp. nov., and Galaxias terenasus sp. nov. These species are morphologically similar and, whilst there is extensive overlap in meristic counts and morphometric characters, each can be diagnosed from unique combinations of characters, including allozyme loci and colour pattern; morphological diagnosis is improved greatly if based on freshly formalin-fixed material. Galaxias schomburgkii Peters 1868, G. bongbong Macleay 1881, G. kayi Ramsay & Ogilby 1886 and G. oconnori Ogilby 1912 are retained as junior synonyms of G. olidus (sensu stricto). The types for G. findlayi Macleay 1882 are lost and no specimens matching its description were collected or examined from the Mt. Kosciuszko region; it is also currently retained as a junior synonym of G. olidus s.s. G. terenasus sp. nov. and G. arcanus sp. nov. are the most morphologically specialised in the complex and G. olidus s.s remains the most morphologically variable species. It also remains the most widespread taxon, though its previously known distribution is reduced, particularly in the south-west of its range. Nine species are narrow-range endemics, known from one, or only a few, locations, and these restricted distributions most probably reflect the fragmentation and reduction of former ranges caused by the effects of alien salmonids. Eleven of these are of conservation concern, most are considered critically endangered.

of India recognizes an estimated 3,231 valid species of freshwater and marine fishes, of which the total diversity of marine species comprise 75.6% (2,443 species) (Gopi & Mishra 2015). Despite over 200 years of exploration and research, the fish fauna of peninsular India and Kerala continue to be poorly known. Freshwater ichthyological research in Kerala started in the late 18 th century with the description of Cirrhinus cirrhosus and Labeo fimbriatus by Bloch (1795) from the erstwhile Malabar, followed by the description of Wallago attu from the same region by Bloch & Schneider (1801). Over the next century (1800-1900), several naturalists including Georges Cuvier (1828-1831), Achilles Valenciennes (1840-1847), Thomas Jerdon (1849), Albert Günther (1864) and Francis Day (1865-1889) advanced the knowledge of freshwater fishes of erstwhile Malabar District and Cochin State.

Nannocharax dageti, new species, is described from southern tributaries of the Congo River basin in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Zambia and the Kafue River basin of the Zambezi River catchment in Zambia. The new species is distinguished from its congeners by the pigmentation pattern consisting of vertically elongated, dark, rounded blotches overlapping a dark midlateral longitudinal stripe; the separation of the blotches in many cases from the dorsal saddles that extend to the middorsal line; the symmetrical coloration pattern on each caudal-fin lobe consisting of a dark spot on the base of each lobe and a series of dark spots forming a transverse narrow stripe across each lobe approximately one-third of the distance from the fin margin; a dorsal-fin origin situated anterior of the pelvic-fin origin; and the possession of 40 to 43 scales along the incompletely pored lateral-line series. Nannocharax dageti is apparently allopatric to other species of Nannocharax in southern tributaries of the Congo River.

The genus Carinotetraodon currently comprises six valid species of dwarf pufferfishes restricted to freshwaters in Asia. The genus has an interesting disjunct distribution with C. borneensis, C. salivator, and C. irrubesco restricted to Sundaland, C. lorteti to Indochina (Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam), and C. travancoricus and C. imitator to Peninsular India. Three new species of saddled hypostomine loricariids are described. According to a recent phylogenetic analysis, these species are members of the genus Peckoltia. The species differ from all described Peckoltia except P. furcata and P. sabaji by having the dentaries meet at an angle greater than 90°. The species also have similarities to Hemiancistrus, and can be separated from all described species by having dorsal saddles. We discuss the taxonomy of Peckoltia, Hemiancistrus, and allied genera and recognize Ancistomus as valid for P. feldbergae, H. micrommatos, Ancistrus snethlageae, H. spilomma, and H. spinosissimus. We recommend descriptions of genera for several clades of Hemiancistrus and restriction of Hemiancistrus to the type spe- cies of the genus, H. medians. Chaetostomus macrops is transferred to Pseudancistrus and recognized as a junior synonym of P. megacephalus. The Hemiancistrus annectens group of species (H. annectens, H. argus, H. aspidolepis, H. fugleri, H. holostictus, H. maracaiboensis, H. panamensis, H. wilsoni) are recognized in Hypostomus. Multivariate analysis reveals that the newly described species differ from one another in shape space, but overlap broadly with other Peckoltia (P. lujani), narrowly with other Peckoltia (P. greedoi), or broadly with Etsaputu (P. ephippiata).

Le 14 décembre 2012 2 3 I) RÉSUMÉ La blennie fluviatile (Salaria fluviatilis) est une espèce qui a colonisé l'environnement dulcicole à partir d'un ancêtre marin et habite actuellement lacs et rivières situés autour de la Méditerranée. Comment un tel changement d'environnement peut avoir affecté la structure génétique et le phénotype de cette espèce ? C'est autour de cette question centrale que s'articulent les deux principaux volets de cette thèse. Le premier s'intéresse aux conséquences d'évènements géologiques historiques, affectant la structure génétique de S. fluviatilis. Nous y verrons, entre autres, qu'à l'intérieur du bassin occidental de la Méditerranée, les localisations les plus nordiques ont été colonisées à partir de deux refuges glaciaires. Le deuxième volet est centré sur l'adaptation et l'acclimatation que nécessite un tel changement d'environnement. Il y sera révélé que les réponses de la forme du corps et la longueur des nageoires face à la vitesse du courant sont contrôlées par un déterminisme environnemental chez la blennie fluviatile. Ensemble, ces deux volets permettent de mieux comprendre les processus derrière la différenciation des populations dans un contexte de colonisation d'un nouvel environnement. Two new characid species, Astyanax epiagos, from the upper rio Jacuípe, rio Paraguaçu basin, and A. jacobinae, from the
upper rio Itapicuru-mirim, rio Itapicuru basin, Chapada Diamantina, Bahia, Brazil, are described. Astyanax epiagos is
distinguished from the majority of its congeners and from all Astyanax known to occur in northeastern Brazilian drainages
by the reduced number of branched anal-fin rays (usually 14-16), along with a series of other distinctive characters
(e.g., vertically elongated humeral blotch, conspicuous dark blotch over caudal peduncle, absence of conspicuous midlateral
dark stripe, body highest around vertical through midlength of pectoral-fin, absence of scales over anal-fin base,
presence of broad naked space between infraorbitals and preopercle). Astyanax jacobinae differs from its congeners by a
combination of morphometric, meristic, and pigmentary characters (e.g., large eye diameter, three maxillary teeth, presence
of a vertically elongated humeral blotch, absence of a conspicuous dark midlateral stripe or conspicuous spot over
caudal peduncle, absence of broad naked space between infraorbitals and preopercle).

Kerala is the synonym to biodiversity. Fresh water ichthyological diversity is the most crucial part of biodiversity as it is difficult to be estimated and protected. The study aimed to estimate the fish diversity of Pallickal River in relation to physico chemical parameters. The period of study was from March 2012 to October 2012. Fish samples and surface water samples were collected seasonally. Specimens were preserved in 4% formalin. Identification of fishes was done with standard keys and water samples were analyzed by standard procedures. Statistical analysis of the data was done. 30 fishes belongs to 16 families of 9 orders were obtained, in which the dominant family was Cyprinidae. One endangered species and 7 vulnerable species were recorded during the study. Biodiversity indices were calculated using Biodiversity pro and the values obtained showed rich and healthy ecosystem showing less over dominance and high diversity. Dominant species differed in relation to site and season. Physico chemical parameters indicated the ecosystem as a life sustainable one, except low pH recorded at site 1 during pre monsoon period. DO, PH and TDS were identified as the principal factors those influence the piscian fauna, using PCA.

This paper communicates the extension of the distribution range of Batasio merianiensis in Sille River in the upper Brahmaputra drainage, East Siang District, Arunachal Pradesh. Detailed examinations of the specimens revealed existence of few morphological variations against those reported by Heok Hee Ng in 2009 on the following characteristics: by having a longer preanal (70.4-73.4 vs. 66.3-68.2% SL); a longer prepectoral (25.1-29.3 vs. 21.4-25.7% SL); a longer adipose-fin base (22.0-27.6 vs. 16.9-22.2% SL); a shorter post-adipose distance (11.6-13.4 vs.13.4-15.5% SL); a deeper body at anus (depth 18.3-20.8 vs.15.2-18.4% SL) and broader head (width 17.6-20.0 vs.13.5-16.2 % HL). Few additional characters of the fish are included along with brief information on its habitat. The LIPUM, the semitraditional method of fishing in the river is identified as a major threat to this species.
