Dialogue as a Means to Learning and Teaching

Since the mid-1990s, Marxist educational theory, research, and policy analysis has experienced an upturn. By exploring Marxist theory in the age of neoliberalism, this edited collection examines the dialectic between race and power in education. The essays embody an underlying set of principles and practices that seek to maximize inclusiveness and dialogue between critical theoretical traditions such as postmodernism, Critical Realism, Feminism, and "anti-racism" in order to critique current educational institutions, policies, and practices. Finally, the book explores phenomena such as globalization, commodification, and capitalization in relation to key aspects of the contemporary educational landscape. The essays extend from the local to the global and encompass historical and contemporary developments in the political economy of education.

International law, under the Constitution of Kenya has been deemed to form part of the Kenyan legal system. This is a contrast from the former dualist approach under the repealed constitution. Even though the application of International law usually has direct application without the necessity of domestic legislation several problematic issues and ambiguities as to the implications for the extent to which international law may be applicable.  This paper seeks to distinguish between the Monist state and Pluralist state while discussing the application of International law in Kenya under the Constitution of Kenya 2010.

v Küreselleşen dünyada ekonomi ve teknoloji alanındaki gelişmeler en az bir yabancı dil bilmeyi zorunlu hale getirmiştir. Hatta iyi bir işte çalışabilmek için birden fazla yabancı dili iyi derecede konuşmak gerekmektedir. Avrupa Komisyonunun yaptığı bir araştırmaya göre, Avrupalıların yarısından çoğu (% 53) işinde bir yabancı dile ihtiyaç duymakta ve % 45'i de bildikleri yabancı dil sayesinde ülkelerinde daha iyi iş bulabildiklerini söylemektedirler. İki dilli ya da çok dilli olmak, kişilerin kültürlerarası iletişim, küresel farkındalık, akademik gelişim gibi alanlarda da başarılı olmalarında etkili olmaktadır. Tüm bu nedenlerden dolayı yabancı dil eğitimi birçok ülkede önem kazanmış ve erken yaşlarda dil öğretimine başlanmıştır. Araştırmalara göre Avrupalıların yarısından fazlası (%54) anadiline ek olarak en az bir yabancı dil konuşabilmekte, % 25'i en az iki yabancı dil ve %10'u ise en az üç yabancı dil bilmektedir.

This book stimulates interest in deepening one’s philosophy of education. I appreciate the way it was presented, organized, and written. Rule has incorporated his doctoral dissertation, and his previous articles on his teaching experience and pedagogical experiments into this book. Many will be able to relate to his learning experiences as a teacher, learner, or educator in different contexts. It has three parts. The first part, the general introduction, focuses on the foundations in understanding dialogue and learning. It has four chapters, one each on Socrates (470-399 BC), Martin Buber (1878-1965), Mikhail Bakhtin (1895-1975) and Paulo Freire (1921-1997). Rule calls the four thinkers, the traditional philosophers. The second part has five chapters. Each chapter explores dialogue, teaching and learning in a range of contexts, situation and application. The third part, the concluding chapter of book, presents his notion of diacognition, a conceptual framework for understanding teaching and learning as moments of knowing.

The relatively few studies focused on the inter-ethnic/inter-religious encounter/dialogue initiatives between Israel and Palestine emphasize the failure of these efforts in promoting tolerance and mutual respect. However, with all the tools of the 21 st century to change the recurrent history, we have every reason to be hopeful for a peaceful future. This paper presents an overview of Arab-Jewish dialogue projects in order to reveal future directions towards achieving critical dialogue as a foundation for peace education from the grassroots. For this purpose, the dialogue encounters in the Israel and Palestine are portrayed as they are operated by non-governmental organizations, international third-party interventions, and schools. Next, drawing from a number of dialogue scholars, the notion of Freirean dialogue is presented. Finally, Freirean dialogue is proposed as an effective pedagogy in order to eliminate the barriers undermining dialogue between the two groups for a grassroots peace movement. Özet: İsrail ile Filistin arasındaki etnik/dinler arası karşılaşma/diyalog girişimlerine odaklanan nispeten az sayıda çalışma, bu çabaların hoşgörü ve karşılıklı saygıyı teşvik etmedeki başarısızlığını vurgulamaktadır. Bununla birlikte, 21. yüzyılın tarihi değiştirecek tüm araçlarıyla, barışçıl bir gelecek için umutlu olmak için her türlü nedenimiz bulunmaktadır. Bu makale, halkın arasından yeşerecek ve sürdürülebilir barış eğitimi için bir temel olarak eleştirel diyaloğu etkin şekillerde uygulamaya yönelik imkanları ortaya çıkarmak için Arap-Yahudi diyalog projelerine genel bir bakış sunuyor. Bu amaçla İsrail ve Filistin'deki diyalog karşılaşmaları, sivil toplum örgütleri, uluslararası üçüncü taraf müdahaleleri ve okullar tarafından işletildiği şekliyle tartışılmaktadır. Daha sonra, önde gelen diyalog akademisyenlerinin uluslararası alanyazında kabul gören yaklaşımlarından hareketle, Freire diyaloğu kavramı sunulmaktadır. Son olarak, Freire diyaloğu, halkın arasında filizlenecek bir barış hareketi için iki grup arasındaki diyaloğu zayıflatan engelleri ortadan kaldırmak doğrultusunda etkili bir pedagoji olarak önerilmektedir.

Jeg skulle nemlig ikke bare ha snakket om dialogens plass i brukermedvirkningen. I tillegg skulle jeg-og vi-ha praktisert og demonstrert dialog. Da jeg fikk høre at over 300 hadde meldt seg på dette verkstedet, ble jeg riktig nok smigret, men jeg slo samtidig fra meg praktiseringen. Det har jeg gjort med støtte fra den kanskje største, i hvertfall var han den første, dialogiske mester, nemlig Sokrates. Selv om det faktisk er feil å oppfatte dialog som en samtale mellom kun to personer, så avviser Sokrates i følge Platons dialog Gorgias (474 A), prinsipielt muligheten for å føre dialog med " mengden ". Å tale til en forsamling er ikke dialog, men en annen sjanger, behandlet av retorikken som fag. Bare én gang lar Platon Sokrates tale til " mengden " , og det er i forsvarstalen foran en jury på mange hundre mann som sto i ferd med å dømme ham til døden. Det er aldri flere enn 3-4 med i Platons skriftlige dialoger, og Sokrates selv krever naermest øyekontakt med enkeltindivider som involveres argumentativt i samtalen, for å kunne forfølge det som blir sagt og gå det etter i sømmene. Laerdom nummer én er altså: Det finnes viktige ting som ødelegges av smiger og popularitet! I stedet for å praktisere dialog, skal jeg derfor foredra uten noen audiovisuelle hjelpemidler i ca. 45 minutter. Det kan forhåpentligvis tjene som utgangspunkt for en samtale med noen av dere etterpå.
