Juan Rafael Macaranas

Juan Rafael G. Macaranas, Ph.D. is a full professor at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde in Manila. He had served as the Coordinator of Philosophy and Theology Area of the School of Multidisciplinary Studies of the said school. He has been teaching Philosophy and Theology subjects for more than two decades in the school. He finished his Bachelor of Philosophy in 1984, and his AB Classical and Licentiate of Philosophy in1986 at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Faculty of Philosophy, Ecclesiastical Faculties. He holds three master’s degrees: MA in Philosophy from UST Graduate School (1993); MA in Religious Studies from Maryhill School of Theology (1997); and MA in Music from UST Conservatory of Music (2005). He earned his PhD in Philosophy at De La Salle University - Manila in 2000. His research interests include Theology, Philosophy, Ethics, Education and Music. He is a lifetime member (2021) of Philippine Society of Music Education (PSME), an active member of Religious Educators Association of the Philippines (REAP) and Philosophical Association of the Philippines (PAP). He is currently the Chairman of the Board of Governors of Philippine National Philosophical Research Society, Inc. (PNPRS), the Managing Editor of its publication, Philosophia: International Journal of Philosophy (PIJP), and PNPRS Board representative of Union of Societies and Associations of Philosophy in the Philippines (USAPP). His published articles in local and international journals cover Philosophy, Theology, Ethics, Education and Music. With PNPRS, he is actively lecturing, organizing, and attending conferences, both local and international. In 2018, he started to participate in international collegial exchanges and public engagements, including the 24th World Congress of Philosophy in Beijing China (three papers), and a series of international academic events in Romania (three papers). He has recently joined the Review Committee for the 2019 Asian Conference on Ethics, Religion and Philosophy (ACERP2019) in Tokyo, Japan, committing to review at least 30 abstracts in The International Academic Forum (IAFOR)’s double-blind peer review system.  He also reviews articles for publication in Philosophia: International Journal of Philosophy (PIJP).
