Với việc lựa chọn tư liệu nghiên cứu là 5 văn bản khắc in chữ Nôm hậu kì (1884-1945), mỗi văn bản chọn phân tích 1000 lượt chữ Nôm, bài viết đã nghiên cứu một số vấn đề về cấu trúc văn tự học chữ Nôm hậu kì trong lượng tư liệu trên ở hai cấp độ: cấp độ hệ thống văn tự và cấp độ đơn vị văn tự. Sau đây là một số kết luận quan trọng rút ra dựa trên các số liệu thống kê chi tiết và hệ thống.

Xét từ cấp độ hệ thống văn tự:

- Không có sự thống nhất tỉ lệ các loại cấu trúc chữ Nôm ở các văn bản khác nhau. Có một điểm thống nhất đáng chú ý là sự vắng bóng chữ Nôm tiểu loại hội âm chính phụ (thuộc loại E1) để tạo thành dạng âm tiết có mô hình CCVC.

- Nếu tính tỉ lệ trung bình của mỗi loại cấu trúc chữ Nôm trong 5 văn bản thì 10 loại cấu trúc chữ Nôm được chia thành 3 nhóm với sự sai biệt khá lớn về số đơn vị thống kê: nhóm thứ nhất là loại cấu trúc A1, với số lượng đơn vị thống kê rất lớn, khoảng 40-45%, tức gần bằng tổng số lượng của 9 loại còn lại; nhóm thứ hai gồm các loại C2, F1, F2, C1, A2, mỗi loại chiếm khoảng 10-15% số lượng đơn vị thống kê; nhóm thứ ba là các loại D, E2, B, E1, mỗi loại chiếm trên dưới 1% đơn vị thống kê.

- Tỉ lệ nhóm chữ Nôm “Tự Tạo” chỉ bằng khoảng ¼ nhóm “Mượn Hán”, bất kể là về số chữ hay số lượt chữ. Sự vay mượn văn tự này cũng thể hiện phần nào sự vay mượn về ngôn ngữ và văn hóa từ Trung Quốc sang Việt Nam.

- Với một số lượt chữ bằng nhau, thì các văn bản có tính văn chương và theo thể văn vần sử dụng nhiều chữ hơn, thậm chí có thể nhiều gấp đôi số chữ dùng trong các văn bản có tính hành chính nghi thức và theo thể văn xuôi.

Xét từ cấp độ đơn vị văn tự (nghiên cứu các biệt thể tự hình):

- Góc nhìn đơn văn bản: trong phạm vi khảo sát của bài viết, mỗi văn bản có từ 261 đến 574 ngữ tố, số ngữ tố có biệt thể tự hình dao động trong khoảng 3 – 11. Nếu tính tỉ lệ trung bình, ta có con số 1,03%, nghĩa là cứ 100 ngữ tố thì mới có khoảng 1 ngữ tố có biệt thể tự hình. Thêm nữa, mỗi ngữ tố thuộc loại có biệt thể tự hình thì cũng chỉ có 2 biệt thể, tức là con số ít nhất để có thể coi là có biệt thể.

- Góc nhìn đa văn bản: 5000 lượt chữ có 1468 ngữ tố, trong đó 114 ngữ tố có biệt thể tự hình, tổng số biệt thể tự hình này xuất hiện 970 lần, nghĩa là 7,8% tổng số ngữ tố có biệt thể tự hình, số biệt thể tự hình này xuất hiện trong 19,4% tổng độ dài 5 văn bản. Tuyệt đại đa số (104/114) các ngữ tố này chỉ có 2 biệt thể tự hình, điều này cho thấy “độ tụ” của biệt thể tự hình rất cao, ít ngữ tố có quá nhiều biệt thể tự hình. Ở cả hai cấp độ đơn văn bản và đa văn bản thì các biệt thể tự hình chủ yếu khác nhau về loại cấu trúc (10/24, 62/124), hoặc là thay đổi vị trí tương đối giữa các bộ phận trong mỗi chữ Nôm ý-âm tự tạo (5/24, 15/124).

- Xét từ cả hai góc nhìn đơn văn bản và đa văn bản, chúng ta cần phải xem xét lại một cách nghiêm túc về quan niệm “Nôm na là cha mách qué”, bởi những nghiên cứu về biệt thể tự hình như trên cho thấy cách viết chữ Nôm hậu kì khá chặt chẽ và nhất quán. Để làm rõ hơn vấn đề này thì vẫn cần những khảo cứu cụ thể và chi tiết hơn từ các góc nhìn văn tự, ngôn ngữ, lịch sử, xã hội.

Xuất bản lần đầu năm 2012 tại Bắc Kinh bằng tiếng Trung Quốc, Hán tự học tân luận (漢字學新論) của GS.TS Lý Vận Phú (李運富) đã sớm nhận được sự hoan nghênh từ các nhà Hán tự học Trung Quốc cũng như giới văn tự học Đông Á. Nội dung cuốn sách rất toàn diện, bao gồm 10 chương lần lượt trình bày về các vấn đề: thuộc tính của chữ Hán; khởi nguyên của chữ Hán; nguồn tài liệu nghiên cứu chữ Hán (bao gồm cổ văn tự và kim văn tự); chỉnh lý chữ Hán; hình thể chữ Hán; cấu trúc chữ Hán; công dụng của chữ Hán; các mối quan hệ của chữ Hán; văn hoá chữ Hán. Cách cấu trúc này cho thấy cuốn sách đã bao quát hầu như toàn bộ các vấn đề then chốt nhất trong lĩnh vực Hán tự học, dưới một cách trình bày hệ thống, lớp lang, logic.

Điểm nhấn của cuốn sách là về mặt lý luận, đặt trọng tâm vào phân tích ba bình diện Hình thể, Cấu trúc và Công dụng (tức chức năng) của chữ Hán, xây dựng hệ thống mới cho Hán tự học với “một thể ba mặt” gồm Hình thể học, Cấu trúc học và Công dụng học. Chính vì lý do này nên bản dịch tiếng Hàn Quốc xuất bản đầu năm 2018 đã đổi nhan đề cuốn sách thành Hán tự học ba bình diện (三維漢字學).

Cuốn sách là một tài liệu tham khảo hữu ích cho những ai muốn tìm hiểu về Hán tự học nói riêng và văn tự học Đông Á nói chung. Đặc biệt đối với độc giả Việt Nam, cuốn sách cung cấp một cách luận giải mới về chữ Hán trên cả bình diện lý thuyết và tư liệu, là nền tảng để nghiên cứu về lịch sử chữ Hán ở Việt Nam cũng như các loại văn tự phái sinh từ chữ Hán như chữ Nôm Việt, chữ Nôm Tày, chữ Nôm Dao, chữ Nôm Ngạn.

Abstract: Within the extant corpus of Sino-Nom literature, there is an interesting phenomenon tentatively called “duo-existence of scripts” - that is, the simultaneous occurrence of both Sinographs and Nom script within one text. This paper, from a philological perspective, explores this phenomenon, especially within primary educational materials. The author differentiates between three types of “coexisting scripts”: duo-linear, duo-connected, and duo-mixed. There is a different relationship between the Sinographic and Nom texts within each type. Based on the identification and analysis of those different relationships, this paper argues that Sinographs and Nom script in Vietnam were not mutually exclusive or contradictory - on the contrary, they coexisted and cooperated in various ways differing in content and form. Despite this, Sinographs usually occupied a central position within the text more often than Nom scripts - this signifies the diagraphia between Sinographs and Nom script in Vietnam’s classical texts.

摘要: 越南汉喃文献里有一种值得注意的现象，即文本中同时存在汉文和喃文，目前暂定为「汉喃文字的双存」（duo-existence of scripts）。笔者从语文学（philology）角度来探讨越南古典文献中，尤其是小学教材的汉喃文字双存现象。笔者将双存文字分为三种类型：双行文字、双接文字、双入文字。不同类型的汉字与喃字有不同的关系。通过分析这些关系，本文认为越南古文献中汉文和喃文的内容与形式不相互排斥、矛盾，而是互相依存、结合。从文本来看，汉字常排在中心位置，这是汉字和喃字在越南古文历史的“双别文字”（digraphia）标志。

This paper first assesses the achievements and limitations of square scripts research in Vietnam, and then progresses to sketch out necessary steps that should be undertaken in the near future. The paper argues that researchers in Vietnam need to face the reality that the field of grammatology (or graphology), specifically regarding the research of square scripts, on the whole remains weak in many areas, despite some achievements, such as in the aspect of Nom script. Within the present academic circumstances, a key issue will be entering into the international arena and cooperating on multiple levels with international academia in order to absorb the knowledge and experience of the international community, thereby creating a stable foundation on which this field can be developed in Vietnam.

Sinographic Sphere and the Issue of “Diglossia” in East Asia

This paper examines the role of literary Chinese in East Asia and the changing functions and positions of the vernacular languages. Paying particular attention to the boundaries of East Asia, this study explores how the cultural linguistic spaces have been shaped and transformed, actively engaging with the development of various vernaculars. Many societies in East Asia, including the Chinese, Japanese, Koreans, Tanguts, and the Khitans, commonly used Chinese scripts as their cosmopolitan official language while developing their own oral traditions. This linguistic situation of “diglossia” is comparable to that of Europe, where Latin functioned as the “lingua franca” in many European societies until the nation states grew dominant and the positions of their vernaculars became powerful enough to supersede the status of Latin. Despite the significant similarities between Chinese and Latin, however, the regional identities of East Asian societies have developed distinctively, with the vernacularizing of the cosmopolitan Chinese showing a clear difference from the situation in Europe.

본 논문은 동아시아 공동 문언어로서의 한자 한문의 언어 문제를 문화권이라는 개념을 중심으로 고찰하였다. 동아시아의 지역 구분은 기본적으로 동아시아의 많은 지역이 “양층적” 혹은 “다층적”인 언어 체계를 가지고 있었다는 특징을 기반으로 이루어지고 있다. 이들 지역 사회는 공통적으로 한자 한문이라는 문언적 표준어를 사용하고 있었으나, 또한 각각 개별적으로 구어적 발화 생활을 영위하고 있었고, 또 많은 경우 고유의 표기법을 고안하여 구어를 기록하고 있었다. 이러한 양층적 언어 상황은 유럽 지역의 라틴어와 민족 국가들의 구어와의 관계와 비견될 수 있다. 그러나 링구아 프랑카로서 기능하였던 라틴어에 비해 한자 한문의 동아시아에서의 지위는 그 문언적 성격이 훨씬 더 강했다는 점에서 크게 변별된다. 즉, 한문 문언어는 구어 기능이 현저히 떨어졌던 바, 동아시아 각 지역 사회는 유럽의 민족 국가와 비교하였을 때 보다 지역적 고유성 을 유지한 상태에서 발전하였다고 결론을 내릴 수 있다.

Given its unprecedented evolution over the past 20 years, the Chinese Internet has attracted a sustained scholarly attention. However, politically-oriented and deterministic perspectives largely dominate this various field of inquiry. Along with academic discourses, social commentaries construct the Internet in China as an enclosed and agonistic arena between China’s governments and Chinese netizens. A peculiar form of media artefacts has arised under the notion of 'sensitive words' a blurred category that served to illustrate the problematic relationship of dissent and contentious discourse in search of visibility with the hindering forces of internet censors.
In this paper, I argue that the portrayal of this tension between governmental agents and ordinary internet users deeply inherits from a fascinated perception of Chinese writing system, refered to as Ideographic Modernism by Christopher Bush (2012). Extensive lexicons, dictionnaries, even entire encyclopedias of the 'Chinese Internet language' operate semiotic reductions of the 'sensitive words' presenting them as metonymic capsules of China’s recent cultural evolutions and political changes. Such procedures culminate in a techno-orientalism when accompanied by the presence of the expert—the computer scientist—embodying the contemporary version of the Western moral consciousness.
My paper signifies the absence of extensive research on the cultural significiance of Chinese writing’s transformative computerization, by critiquing the specific hermeneutics of Chinese Internet censorship that sets free exuberant interpretations of the encounter between Chinese 'ideographic' language and the Internet technology.

基於作者和白一平教授關於文字的想法，本文描述了聲符在漢字裏選擇的過程。本文認為，先民在創造漢字時，不曾意識到「聲符與被諧字既要同韻又要擁有發音部位及發音方法相近的基本輔音」這一原則。相反，古漢語文字裏存在著一套大約有 1,000 個聲符的集合，造字者從中挑出語音上的最優選擇，而那些擁有非最優聲符的形聲字則被淘汰。這導致聲符體系逐漸形成一個像音節表的系統。本文以該系統的 *-aŋ 韻為例，討論了此韻內各聲符的分工。本文認為，若一個形聲字的聲符兼有表義作用，是由於該主諧字和它的聲符擁有相同的詞根，即聲符是基於語音而非語義挑選的。本文還描述了如何同步運用同源詞組和諧聲系列得出關於上古音的推 斷。新的聲符不能被隨意創造，本文展示了如何將已有形聲字作為新聲符來填補系統中的空格，從而使得聲符系統與語音系統之間更加契合。

Based on ideas of the author’s and William H. Baxter’s, this paper describes the process by which the phonetic elements in the Chinese script were selected. It argues that creators of Chinese characters were not aware of a principle requiring a phonetic element and the word it wrote to have (a) the same rhyme and (b) initial consonants of similar manner and place of articulation. Instead, a finite set of some 1,000 phonetic elements existed and creators of Chinese characters selected from that set the element that gave the best phonetic match. Characters that were unable to give a good phonetic match were discarded. This led to the gradual formation of phonetic elements into a syllabary-like system. A fragment of that system, corresponding to the *-aŋ rhyme, is presented. The paper discusses the workload of phonetic elements within the *aŋ rhyme. While, in addition to its phonetic function, a phonetic element also seems to play a semantic role in a particular character, this paper argues that the phonetic itself and the character which contains it share the same lexical root: the phonetic was selected based on the pronunciation of that common root; and thus it was not selected on the basis of semantic considerations. The paper also describes the inferences on Old Chinese pronunciation that can be drawn from a simultaneous consideration of word families and phonetic series. Although new phonetics could not be created ex nihilo, this paper shows how empty slots in the system of phonetics could be filled through promotion of existing xíngshēng (phonetic series) characters to the status of new phonetic elements. The result was improvement in the adequation of the system of phonetics within the language’s phonology.

Alphabets in the history of the Chinese language

Various phonographic variants of script, both for Chinese and for the neighboring languages using the Chinese characters, had been created long before the contacts with the West and the appearance of any Romanization systems in the area. Two official alphabets, the ʼPhags-pa and the Yìsītìfēi (Istīfā) script, and probably a nonofficial Arabographic Xiǎojīng writing system were introduced for the Chinese language already in the period of the Mongol Yuan dynasty. A syllabic character-based ‘women’s script’ Nǚshū was invented for the Southern Hunan Tǔhuà dialects at the turn of the Ming period or evidently much earlier. Modern information technologies and the possibilities of the computer typesetting in particular have inevitably changed even the official character texts written in Standard Chinese. To a greater degree, these changes are known to have affected the language of the computer-mediated communication with its often unusual forms of Latin spelling of Chinese words. In many cases, however, Chinese Internet users and primarily speakers of various dialects prefer to use even for the all-China lexicon not standard or Latin variants, but phonetically borrowed characters. Thus, they follow the centuries-old traditions of nonofficial texts including those written in the medieval Báihuà written language with its numerous phonetically or semantically borrowed characters from official Literary Chinese.
