Power generating units are mega project, which require not only huge capital investment but also various natural resources like, fossil fuels and water. Afterward, these create immeasurable & everlasting impacts on the environment and generate tremendous stress in the local eco-system in spite of stringent government norms to control and mitigate the damages to the environment by the power plants. However, Today’s most important concern Bangladesh is power generation. In recent years coal fired power plant is being heavily discussed. Likewise, other Asian countries Bangladesh also wants to find a way to Energy solvency through Coal fired Power Plants, Nuclear Power Plants and Renewable Energy Sources. In the shadow of advance way, Government of Bangladesh has chosen mass destruction project for fulfilling the power generation, which could be considered as a worse fate for the world’s largest natural mangrove forest Sundarban. This research paper endeavors to critically scrutinize the environmental impacts of thermal power plant including Rampal power plant’s surrounded area. Along with that, it discusses relevant legislations based on environmental laws to protect the environment. Finally, this research presents some preliminary findings affiliated the loopholes of existing legislations of Bangladesh as well as brings up the assessment on the fortune of Sundarbans.

There is a struggle throughout the world on the issue of justiciability of socio-economic rights. It is forcefully argued that socio-economic rights should be given the same status as that of civil political rights. Ensuring the judicial enforcement of socio-economic rights has been considered a prime issue in this regard. In Bangladesh, Part II of the Constitution embodies the socio-economic rights as “Fundamental Principles of State Policy” whereas “Fundamental Rights” consisting of Civil Political rights find place in Part III. Article 8(2) of the Constitution makes the Principles and thereby the socio-economic rights judicially non-enforceable. This provision came under judicial consideration in Kudrat-e-Elahi v. Bangladesh case. The Appellate Division relied on nonenforceability criteria (in article 8(2)) to hold that a law cannot be repealed only on the ground of inconsistency with fundamental principles. This article attempts to submit the opposite.

The aim of this study was to explore the feasibility of a new course on educational evaluation and assessment. In-depth interviews were carried out with a checklist prepared through field trials. Number of respondents was 19, 16 from the non-government organisations and three from the government education department. Junior, mid and senior levels officials were in the sample. The findings reveal that short certificate courses are needed on educational evaluation and assessment. Both the government and non-government education officials were interested in it. Duration of the course was suggested to beof four weeks. Involvement of high officials of the ministry and the NGO leaders in the course advisory board should be considered seriously.

This paper focuses on local level politics and the organization of political par ties to examine how the political leaders mobilize their supporters at the local level. The involvem ent of local people is also analyzed here. Moreover, some aspects of political awareness from within an d outside the party are covered in the paper. Here, how local level politics are important in our political arena and what sort of cohesion exists between local level politics and national level pol itics also focused. To what extent and under what conditions do the political leader in local area, the relation between local and national politics and their contribution to development activities are also focused.

Tropical architecture of Le Corbusier, one of the masters of modern architecture, has made immense influences worldwide. This paper tries to rediscover the master architect in terms of inputs he obtained from the context while designing for the Indian subcontinent. The nourishment obtained from the nature as well as the culture and society helped shape the work of the western architect to a considerable degree. His expressions were modern and his very own, but fitted well with the climate and the society of the place. Daylight and temperature during different times and seasons, monsoon rain, prevailing breeze, immediate and extended landscape, all were considered by the architect with due respect. The paintings, the music and the poetry of the subcontinent helped Le Corbusier to create visual and mental image of the place. A part of the architect's work was influenced from the studies made during his visits to the built environments urban and rural. He had turned to the sources of local wisdom in devising environment-modifying features for his subcontinental designs. The paper draws upon resources from the doctoral thesis of the author on the environmental performance of buildings designed by Le Corbusier where an in-depth study was made on the environmental features of both Le Corbusier buildings and traditional buildings of the subcontinent. It highlights the influences of the traditional strategies in the buildings of the master architect in terms of solutions to climatic problems. References are also made to the factors influencing Le Corbusier's design such as social, cultural and political aspects. This research aims to identify and examine the key factors that play a vital role in the cultural assimilation and attitudes of non-native speakers of Bangla at an International school in Dhaka where English is the medium of instruction, and seek out differences in attitude between the non-native adults residing in Dhaka. The identification of the key factors which facilitate cultural assimilation has been uncovered through triangulating personal interviews, semi-structured questionnaires, and focus group discussions. The results indicate that gradual cultural assimilation is taking place in the non-native speakers of Bangla in both the adult and student population, but with striking differences in their attitudes towards certain well established elements that foster cultural assimilation. Least developed countries beset with poverty are liberalizing trade policies with growth objectives. Trade contributions to economic growth are established, but impacts of liberalized trade policies on poverty have not been fully assessed. The impacts can be assessed at the micro-level through identifying the linkages between trade and poverty alleviation. In this paper the export-oriented Bangladesh apparel sector, the phenomenal growth of which came about through unilateral liberalized trade policies and quota-driven market access to developed countries under multilateral Multi Fiber Arrangement, has been studied as a case to observe if it contributed to poverty alleviation. The study revealed that the apparel sector has been very effective in reducing poverty by creating income-earning employment for unskilled workers, particularly women. However, the demise of the Multi Fiber Arrangement next year will severely affect the apparel sector's ability for poverty reduction unless protection to employment and income of the garment workers is assured through market access by the developed countries.

The paper discusses the standard of teaching, skills and based on the standards the problems regarding the teachers’ qualification in Bangladesh. Educational management requires the ability to analyze the current condition of an institution's operations. The Academic Information System provides valuable raw data. However, unprocessed information alone is insufficient for the diagnosis of problem areas within an education institution. Due to the complex nature of educational management, there is a need for an application that can identify critical patterns and trends within an educational institution's current activities. The data warehouse in the study serves the center for data collection and integration. Gathered data can then be accessed for queries and analysis, generating insights crucial for improving an institution. The purpose of this study was to build a data warehouse model that can display useful information for education management support. The data warehouse design methodology was based on the nine-step methodology proposed by Kimball. The method of data collection included questionnaires, interviews, formal observations, and literature review. Visual Basic.Net 2008, SQL Server 2005 and Crystal Reports were used as tools to design the model.

The social roles of male and female are constituted through gender. The body always creates the values and meanings by the performance of social acts. Thus gender is not a fixed phenomenon. It is constantly changing, altering and creating new formations. The notion of androgyny is used to question gender classification. It blends female and male traits and makes a unification of both genders. By creating androgynous minds in her novels, Virginia Woolf questions the social classification of gender and the discrimination between men and women. Her androgynous characters create their social identity through the social performance which resembles Butler's concept of performativity where gender is formed on the surface of the body. The thesis explores these concepts through a reading of Virginia Woolf's novels Orlando (1928) and Mrs Dalloway (1925).
