Lacking land and natural resources, the Singapore government has consistently turned to information and communications technologies (ICT) and innovation to transform Singapore into a highly liveable city. Starting with early computerisation efforts in the 1960s, the government launched a succession of national ICT masterplans and e-government masterplans. These guided the use of ICT to enhance Singapore's international competitiveness, upgrade the workforce, attract knowledge-intensive activities, and improve public sector service standards. The application of ICT has also helped to shape the physical environment and development of the city-state, enhancing integrated planning and development in Singapore. Various ICT systems, data hubs and digital tools have been developed to support the work of the public sector in areas ranging from urban planning, land management, housing, transport, to municipal services. With the launch of the Smart Nation vision in 2014, many initiatives have been carried out by the public sector in collaboration with various stakeholders-the private sector, civil society and citizens. The digital revolution continues to influence the way we live, work, play and learn. This Urban Systems Study charts Singapore's experience in developing and leveraging ICT in its development journey over the past five decades. " Our Smart Nation initiative is actually not about technology. It is really about how we apply technology to enhance the quality of life for our citizens, to create greater opportunities for everyone to prosper and thrive in this new world where economic restructuring is occurring at an unprecedented pace and, to also strengthen community cohesion. In other words, it is about people, quality of life, opportunities and communities. Technology is only a means to an end." The Newspaper industry plays a strategic role in nation building such as acting as watchdog of the society, agent of change and gatekeeper in shaping and moulding the national conscience of the society. The industry has also continued to interface between the people and the government. However, the economics of decline that affected the industry globally also manifested in Nigeria. The cause of this spiralling economics of decline in the Nigerian Newspaper industry is partly blamed on the reduction in Gross Domestics Product, reduction in consumer disposable income and the rising cost of productions etc. This study therefore explores the impact of the global economic recession on three national newspapers based in Lagos, the hub of the Newspaper industry in Nigeria. In-depth interviews were conducted with senior editors of the newspapers to explain the economics of decline as well as investigate the survival strategies adopted by them. The findings reveal that these newspapers are truly facing a bigger threat of extinction and that the survival strategies adopted by them to stay afloat are inadequate. It is therefore recommended that an economic template that may involve mergers and acquisitions, shift in traditional news gathering methods, exploring local language publications among others should be embraced by the industry if it must survive beyond 2030.

Abstract: This paper reports the possibilities of developing open library systems, as proposed by Swartz, through the use of an array of open contents and appropriate on-the-fly integration mechanisms. Open contents may include a wide range of scholarly contents along with different associated objects like book cover images. Information mashup, a central focus of Web 2.0, may be applied for the purpose of achieving real-time integration of objects with library services.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate social media usage in crisis management planning, response, and recovery activities. Social media usage during an emergency event to gather immediate information has been demonstrated as an alternative when traditional forms of communication have been less effective. Most of the messages transmitted using (or through) social media are from non-traditional media sources, and the medium has become an expected source for traditional news agencies, as every cellular smart device user in the world has the potential to be an information broadcaster. This research survey explores the role social media is having on crisis management for security professionals. Survey participants consisted primarily of ASIS International members.
The aim of this paper is to support the methodology for the analysis of the impact on commercial globalization trend in relation yo yhe internationalization of Mexican firms.
