Like every other precious thing, He chooses and gives it to whom He wishes. Among mankind, Adam (alaihis-salam) was the first to be favored and honored with knowledge, thereby raising his station above that of the Angels. Generations were subsequently given their due share from Adam to Noah, to Nubians & Egypt, to Greek, to Babylon, to the Hebrews, to Rome, to the Arabs, and to Islam. Some were given the Knowledge for keep, others were given to utilize and spread. Of all the knowledge given to most of these nations, the Greek did an excellent job of spreading the teachings of what they have. The Conquest of Alexandra the great helped in no small way in carrying the teachings of most of the great teachers of Greek descent e.g. Aristotle, Pluto, Socrates, etc. The Hebrews and probably others hid their own and offer it to a willing buyer, thereby attracting the wrath of God. 2 ِ َّ ِ ِ ِ ‫ـب‬ َ ‫َوإ مذ أَ َخ َذ اللَّهُ ميثَ َـق الذ‬ َ َ‫ين أُوتُوام المكت‬ ِ ‫لَتُبَـيِّـنُـنَّهُ لِلن‬ ُ‫َّاس َوالَ تَ مكتُ ُمونَه‬ ‫فَـنَبَ ُذوهُ َوَرآءَ ظُ ُهوِرِه مم‬ ً‫َوا مشتَـَرموام بِِه ََثَناً قَلِيل‬ ِ ‫س َما يَ مشتَـ ُرو َن‬ َ ‫فَبمئ‬ When Allah took a covenant from those who were given the Scripture (Jews and Christians): you shall explain / practice / demonstrate it to mankind, and you will not to hide it, but they threw it behind their backs, and purchased with it a token amount of money! And indeed worst is that which they bought. ---Ali Imrana In so many places in the Qur'an God explained the kind of punishment awaiting them. Here is one of it: ِ َّ ِ ِ َ‫َنزَل اللَّهُ ِمن المكِت‬ ‫ـب‬ َ ‫ين يَ مكتُ ُمو َن َمآ أ‬ َ َ ‫إ َّن الذ‬ ‫َويَ مشتَـ ُرو َن بِِه ََثَنًا قَلِيًل‬ ِ ِِ ِ ‫َّار‬ َ ِ‫أُولَـئ‬ َ ‫ك َما يَأم ُكلُو َن ِف بُطُوِن مم إالَّ الن‬ ِ‫والَ ي َكلِّمهم اللَّه يـوم الم ِقيـمة‬ َ َ َ ‫َ ُ ُ ُ ُ ُ َم‬ ‫َوالَ يـَُزِّكي ِه مم‬ ِ ‫وََلم ع َذ‬ ‫يم‬ ٌ َ ‫َ ُم‬ ٌ ‫اب أَل‬ 174. Verily, those who conceal what Allah has sent down of the Book, and purchase with it a token amount of money, they eat into their bellies nothing but fire. 3 Allah will not speak to them on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify them, and their will be for them, a painful torment. What is the consequence of their action here, and the hereafter? ِ َّ ِ‫أُولَـئ‬ ‫الضلَـلَةَ بِا مَلَُدى‬ َّ ‫ين ا مشتَـَرُوام‬ َ َ ‫ك ال ذ‬ ِ‫اب بِالمم مغ ِفرة‬ َ َ َ ‫َوالم َع َذ‬ ‫َصبَـَرُه مم َعلَى النَّا ِر‬ ‫فَ َمآ أ م‬ 175. Those are they who purchased error with guidance, and torment with forgiveness. what will calm their engulfment on the Fire. They sold out an authentic knowledge for monetary value thereby depriving the world the divine incentive that came along with it. The new owner of the knowledge now treats it as a secular subject without acknowledging the source, or the respect it deserves; thereby depriving them of the spiritual food that came along with it. So what is so grievious about their action to warrant this condemnation? ِ ِ َّ َّ ‫ك بِأ‬ ‫ـب بِا مْلَ ِّق‬ َ ‫ذَل‬ َ َ‫َن اللهَ نـََّزَل المكت‬ ِ َّ ِ ِ َ‫اختَـلَ ُفوام ِِف الم ِكت‬ ‫ـب‬ ‫ين م‬ َ ‫َوإ َّن الذ‬ ٍ ِ‫اق بع‬ ٍ ِ ِ ‫يد‬ َ ‫لَفى ش َق‬ 176. That is because Allah has sent down the Book with THE TRUTH. And verily, those who disputed as regards the Book are far away in opposition. That is the reason. The Books sent to them came together with THE TRUTH i.e. the Sciences and Technologies. Therefore, any attempt to separate them points to mischief. It is an effort to render the message unattractive. The Romans, the Arabs, and the people of the conquered territories, all drank from the fountain of this knowledge, and sciences. Individual 4 communities and tribes domesticated the knowledge to conveniently suit their culture and tradition. Blending what is useful with what they have as their indigenous knowledge. The Qur'an is a new set of knowledge explained in the rules of the then existing, the present and future; prevailing knowledge. God made the point Suratul A'araf ٍ َ‫ولََق مد ِجمئـنَ ُـهم بِكِت‬ ‫ـب‬ ‫م‬ َ ‫ص ملنَـهُ َعلَى عِ مل ٍم‬ َّ َ‫ف‬ ‫ُه ًدى َوَر مْحَةً لَِّق موٍم يـُ مؤِمنُو َن‬ 52. Certainly, We have brought to them a Book which We have explained in detail based on knowledge, It is a guidance and a mercy to a people who believe. 5 PRESENTATION. A Major branch of the Indo-European Language is Latin which served as the official Language of the Roman Empire. It is the Language of Power. There existed the classical Latin of the Roman literati, and there is this Vulgar Latin. The vulgar Latin is the Language of the soldiers, settlers, and slaves in the Empire. Expansionism along with other policies helped made vulgar Latin the dominant native Language over a wide area in and outside the Empire because it automatically became the language of the conquered people. Within this period Greek became a shared Language in the eastern side of the Empire well into Asia minor drawing a liguistic frontier dividing the Latin West and the Greek East. Greek is being studied by educated Romans; especially the ruling elite. They often achieve a high degree of proficiency. Though it is not their official language, it helps them in diplomatic communications. Its use by the church greatly helped in the spread of Christianity. With the dissolution of the Empire in the west, Greek became the dominant language of the Eastern Roman Empire, which was later called Byzantine Empire. The decadence, collapse, and fragmentation of the Empire in the 5th Century saw the independent evolution of Vulgar Latin within each local area, and eventually diverged into dozens of distinct languages. Spanish, Portuguese, French, and Italian are the largest of them. Inspite of multiple influences of pre-Roman languages and later invasions, the phonology, morpholgy, lexicon, and syntax of all Romance languages are predominantly derived from Vulgar Latin. There is always an interpenetration of the two languages. A writing or inscription may be bilingual in nature, switching back and forth between Greek and Latin. This was the international position of the 4th, 5th, and 6th Century international languages. This was the position the Qur'an met, and this is the parable that explained the confusion. And it was part of the reason that qualifies Arabic to this exalted position: 6 ِ ‫ضَربمـنَا لِلن‬ ‫َّاس ِِف َهـ َذا الم ُق مرءَ ِان‬ َ ‫َولََق مد‬ ‫ِمن ُك ِّل َمثَ ٍل لَّ َعلَّ ُه مم يـَتَ َذ َّك ُرو َن‬ ‫قُـ مرءَاناً َعَربِيّاً َغميـَر ِذى عِ َو ٍج لَّ َعلَّ ُه مم يـَتَّـ ُقون‬ ً‫ب اللَّهُ َمثَل‬ َ َ ‫ضَر‬ ِ ‫َّرجلً فِ ِيه ُشرَكآء متَ َش‬ ‫ـك ُسو َن‬ ُُ َ ُ ‫َوَر ُجلً َسلَماً لَِّر ُج ٍل‬ ِ ‫هل يستَ ِوي‬ ‫ان َمثَلً؟‬ َ ‫َ م َم‬ ِ‫ا مْلم ُد للَّه‬ ‫َم‬ ‫بَ مل أَ مكثَـ ُرُه مم الَ يـَ معلَ ُمو َن‬ 27. And indeed We have put forth for men, in this Qur'an every kind of parable in order that they may remember. 28. An Arabised Recitation, without any crookedness (therein) in order that they may have Taqwa 29. Allah puts forth a parable: a man belonging to many partners disputing with one another, and a man belonging entirely to one master. Are those two equal in comparison? All the praises and thanks be to Allah! But most of them know not. 7 MODUS OPERANDI There are several parts, and aspect to THE BOOK. But our concern here is the miraculous aspect of it which he explained as: ِ ِّ ُ‫ـب ف‬ ‫صلَ م‬ ُ‫ت ءَايَـتُه‬ ٌ َ‫كت‬ A Book whereof the Miracles are explained in detail ً‫قـُ مرءَاناً َعَربِيّا‬ in a Recitable, Arabised form, ‫لَِق موٍم يـَ معلَ ُمو َن‬ for people who know. It means, the miracles of THE BOOK is explained in a recitable, and encompasses the Arabic Language, its culture and tradition in a style that will be readily understood by scholars who are thoroughly
