Written in the early 1930’s, Janusz Korczak’s Kaytek the Wizard it’s a charming blend of fairy-tale and coming-of-age novel about a boy who discovers he has magical powers. The paper explores its narrative dynamics, paying particular attention to plot development, pedagogical references and race issues.

Playing with the Convention of Fairy Tales and Children’s Literature: Tadeusz Konwicki’s The Anthropos-Spectre-Beast. The article analyses how the author exploits mockery on the convention of fairy tales and children’s literature in the narrative thread set in the Green Valley. This storyline resembles a fairy tale, but its characters are a grotesque parody of the figures usually present in tales, intended both as folkloric narration and as a genre of children’s literature. Other elements of Polish Borderland folklore are strewn everywhere in the Valley. All fairy-tale elements are shown in a slanted or degraded form. The blend of fantasy and Borderland scenery places this territory on the same ontological level as the marvellous.

This book tells the story of one of the most famous wonderboys of modern times, that Christian Heinrich Heinecken who was born in Lübeck on the 6th of February 1721. To reconstruct his biography, the author relied on a wide range of sources since the celebrity of his family and the echoes of his achievements - that won him the immortal title of the "wonderboy of Lübeck" - spurred the publication of dozens of books, articles, poems, essays and orations. These texts, together with the contents of the journal written by his preceptor Christian von Schöneich, published posthumously in 1779, inspired the retelling of the story, whose facts, despite their astonishing and exceptional nature, happened for real.

Poetry for children in translation. Comments on the Polish issue of Gianni Rodari's poems – As I. Even-Zohar has observed, " in spite of the broad recognition among historians of culture of the major role translation has played in the crystallization of national cultures, relatively little research has been carried out so far in this area " (1990: 45). The verdict of the Israeli scholar still seems to hold true today with regard to the translation of children's literature, especially poetry, even if that situation is slowly changing. Invariably, however, poetry is less frequently translated than prose, as shows the example of the greatest 20 th-century Italian children writer, G. Rodari. The aim of this paper – preceded by an introductory theoretical treatise – is to discuss a unique collection of Rodari poems translated into Polish by J. Minkiewicz and published in 1956.
