Rock City was a San Francisco night club located at Broadway and Montgomery Street, close to the location of other well-known venues such as the Mabuhay Gardens and The Stone.  While it was short-lived, they managed to put out a compilation of artists that played the club.  I included scans of the front and back cover and the disc labels, and I found some information in an online scan of the October issue of Damage magazine about some of the bands.  Flac files of wavs.  This was digitized from a sealed copy of the album.

While all of these fell under "punk" at the time, the styles are actually all over the place.  Ultrasheen does a funk cover of James Brown's "Super Bad," and the Two Tones are a reggae band.

  1. I used to hang here a lot and same with a lot of the other venues you mentioned. I played the Mabuhay (we were a fave of Ness Aquino's......free food dude) and the stone often. Thanks for posting this unusual but memory filled, for me, item.

    1. What band? I played there in late '82 early '83 a three or four times, also across the street at the Chi Chi Club, as part of a rockabilly group named the Corvairs (not the punk Corvairs, who were playing in the late '70s).
