AJIBOLA Gbenga Samson is a lecturer in Human Kinetics and Health Education at the University of Lagos. With a National Certificate of Education from Adeniran Ogunsanya College of Education, a B.Sc. (Edu.) in Physical Education from the University of Benin, and an M.Ed. and Ph.D. in Sport Administration and Management from the University of Lagos, his academic credentials speak for themselves.

As an esteemed member of several professional associations, including ICHPER.SD, NAPHER.SD, NIM, NSSM, and TRCN, AJIBOLA has received numerous awards and recognitions for his contributions to the field of sports and education. He was named Best Male Corper in Yobe State in 2007, Best Graduate Student in Human Kinetics & Health Education at the University of Lagos in 2011, and received a Certificate of Recognition from the Nigeria Association of Sports Science and Medicine in 2014.

AJIBOLA's research interest is centered around sport administration and management, and he has published numerous articles in this area both nationally and internationally.

Factors influencing the utilisation of fitness and recreation centre by students in the University of Lagos

Physical activity has enormous benefits on the overall health of an individual ranging from his/h... more Physical activity has enormous benefits on the overall health of an individual ranging from his/her physical to his/her spiritual wellbeing. This paper provides details on the benefits of fitness on health. The purpose of this study was to investigate factors militating against utilisation of on-campus recreation centre within the University of Lagos. The subjects for this study were undergraduate students of the University of Lagos (N=200); using stratified random sampling method. A self developed, structured and validated questionnaire was used to elicit information from subjects. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics of frequency counts and percentage while hypotheses were tested using inferential statistics of Chi-square (X 2) at 0.05. level of significance. The results showed that the students&#39; academic workload often interferes with utilising the fitness and recreation centre while the availability of gym equipment was also a contributory factor. According to the data obtained from this study, male students use recreational facilities on campus than female students. Based on the above findings it was therefore recommended that the gym in the university should be equipped with more facilities that can accommodate more students at a time. Furthermore, the recreation program done by the University should be revived.
