We enjoy the Pickles comic strip by Brian Crane each morning. I guess because it's geared to seniors like us.
I recently saw this strip that shows Earl (the older gentleman) who tells his wife to use his fountain pen instead of her ball point pen.Do you remember fountain pens? I wonder if younger kids even know about them.
I used mine a lot and found I still have it.
Remember how you'd pull down that lever to refill your pen with ink from a small bottle?
This pen has had a LOT of use.
We didn't carry a lot of pens then.
And now here's just a few of what I have in my pen holder now.
Pens are given out everywhere and they're not really refillable.
It's rather sad how these will all end up in the landfills someday.
I guess this is progress?
I’m sure they breed in the dark…..biros not fountain pens. We do the scratch/scrub and scribble test every now and again. Scratch scratch scrub scrub scribble a little…..along a piece of paper to see if it writes. Toss that one keep that one. And there are far more than we need
ReplyDeleteYears ago you could buy refills for the really expensive ball points. Parker and Sheaffer used to although I’m not sure they do these days
I have a selection of fountain pens and use one every day. I remember the smell of school ink!
ReplyDeleteI vaguely recall using a fountain pen, and the the cartridge pens came along. My daughter gave me a ballpoint pen on her wedding day. I use a pen so infrequently that I just inserted a new refill a few weeks ago, 16 years later.
ReplyDeleteI like ballpoint pens but am not picky about them. I do remember fountain pens from ancient times.
ReplyDeleteI use a fountain pen every single day to write in my journal. It is a joy to use and writes so smoothly compared to ball point pens. Mine however has a screw pump on the end and not the lever action like yours.
ReplyDeleteMy Dad only used a fountain pen during his 35 years of medical practice. He started using ball point pens many years into his retirement. Not sure why. I used one for awhile during a high school year for some class; can't remember. Bet your Mom has the most fountain pens in your household, but maybe more delicate pain brushes. Linda in Kansas
ReplyDeleteI never had a good fountain pen, but in high school I dabbled with the cartridge ones. They were horrible.
