Aspivenin?

I just saw an article in the Honolulu Star Advertiser 5 Things We Love section. Number 1 was Aspivenin.

Since my brother and I both have blood that mosquitoes love, I would like to get one. I'd rather not send for it from France because I imagine the shipping alone would be terribly expensive. I looked online and found somebody who said it's sold in Canada.

Therefore, this question is for my Canadian bloggers. Have you seen this product sold in Canada? Is it sold at any of the pharmacies? Since we're planning to make a trip to Canada this spring, I'd love to buy one if it's available.

I wish they'd sell this in Hawaii! Then again, does anybody know if it really works? I want to believe.

  1. You got me curious and I checked out reviews. Not much in the way of positive. We itch from the anticoagulant the mosquito injects to keep the blood from clotting in their tiny stomachs. That is what sets off the allergic, itchy reaction in us. I would think that even if you could suck it out, you would still itch, maybe just a little less.
    Good luck.

  2. Kay I've never seen this product in Canada, but will keep my eyes open for it and let you know if I do...I could always mail you one.

  3. Completely new and unknown to me before now! I have been very successful in using red clothing and avoiding blue clothing to keep those little suckers away, but I am not one they especially like.

  5. Kay, I've never heard of this product, I will keep my eyes open for it though.

I've featured your blog header photo in my Sunday Sketch today.

  6. I've never heard of it, but we're going shopping today, before going to Europe, so I'll look for it.
Mosquitos seem to like Dick, but they don't like me. I just hate them buzzing around me. Gives me the creeps.
Good luck, I hope you and Dennis find something that works for both of you. I guess Art isn't particularly bothered by them?

  7. Mosquitoes find me quite tasty, and the itch lasts for a long time. I would love for this to work, but I have my doubts.

  8. How do you pronounce that word in the first place? lol.

  9. To heck with the environment and personal safety. I've used 93% DEET sprays for years, as does my Eagle Scout son. I'd rather minimize the itch, disease, and deer ticks and their lyme disease than worry about how much DEET isn't good.... Is the aspivenin a bite repellent or a "stop the itch" product? Scouts have a "stop the itch" product that works well but smells like ammonia.

  10. Okay, sorry, I just clicked on the correct spot about the product. Don't think it's for "skeeter" bites; but might be interesting for people allergic to bee stings, but I'd still want to carry around a pen. I think one would need more than this if they met a venomous snake....DrumMajor

  11. did you google it? there's a ton of replies there

    here's a place in Vancouver:
Might be too late now but FYI, Aspivenin is sold in Vacouver in the Nature'sPrime health store on 728, West Broadway or in Lonsdale, N.Van in Victoria's Health store.

Aspivenin is incredibly effective after all sorts of bites and stings - from mosquitoes, bees, wasps, stinging plants - even venomous snakes! It simply draws out the venom with a gentle vacuum, therefore, reducing the itch, pain and swelling. There are no chemicals involved so it is safe for pregnant ladies, babies and children.

Nature-Mate do sell Aspivenin on line - www.nature-mate.com

Aspivenin is well trusted in Europe, where it has been available for over 25 years.

another product at half the price is Therapik - FDA approved

I sympathize because I have severe allergy to insect bites and left my job in Hawaii for that reason - happy now in bug-free Pacific Northwest

  12. Niki: Thanks so much, Niki. If I can't find it, I'll let you know. I just talked to my son who was doing research on West Nile disease and mosquitoes in New Mexico said he's quite dubious about this product. I'm afraid he inherited the mosquito problem from me.

DrumMajor: I know just what you mean about the ammonia smelling medicine. It's called Afterbite and works quite well, too. Here's the link.

Janice: Thanks a bunch! You're so much better at getting that information than I am. I'll try to google this again and see what I can learn. I know I shouldn't believe everything in print (newspaper) but I was hoping and hoping.

  13. I can relate. Mosquitos love me also. I'd love to find something like this if it works. Let us know if you try it.

  14. We live in an area that has a high concentration of insect threats and our son is a Scout, plus we hike as a family. We carry after-bite.

When my husband went to Africa for a mission trip, he sprayed all clothing and tent material with permethrin. It stays on through several washings. Now we use it on our scout's clothes for camping.

I hate skeeters. Hate the high pitched whine, the bites, the itch. All of it. Ick. It's on my list to ask God about when I get there. What on earth was He thinking with those critters?

  17. We have plenty of mosquitos in Alabama anytime the weather warms up, but I am lucky in that the bites hardly bother me at all. I am sure that will chenge now, since I have bragged about it.

  18. This is new to me. I grew up in heavy mosquito country, but where I live now, they are minor. I wonder if this works?

  19. Kay, I just re-read your post. You are going to Canada this spring? Do tell us where in Canada! How I envy you.

  20. I'm a bit skeptical about this kit.

I am prone to insect bites and tend to over react to them. So in early spring I start taking a few weeks of Apis. It is basically ground up bees.
Then is summer I have less itchy reactions.
After a bite I swab it with vinegar, then apply white toothpaste or Savlon.
