Queere Bewegungen übersetzen
Queere Bewegungen übersetzen
Herbst 2023 - Wien/Berlin
Hintergrund

Translating Queer Movements
Autumn 2023 - Vienna / Berlin
Background
The diverse history of queer movements is not represented enough on Wikipedia. Many articles and important info about people, events or organisations of LGBTQIA+ movements worldwide are missing on Wikipedia in all languages. By translating articles from one language to another, we want to fill some of these gaps.
It is not easy to get active on Wikipedia. Through research and previous projects we know how challenging it can be for many people to make their first steps in editing a Wikipedia article. Besides technical challenges, also the existing Wikipedia community often has only little understanding and sensibility for including new volunteers. Tools like the Content Translation tool are not known among new users.
About the project
As part of this project you can translate existing Wikipedia articles around the history of queer movements. We want to make the history of LGBTQIA+ movements worldwide more readily available online in more languages and at the same time create a safer space for newcomers to get engaged on Wikipedia. As part of the project you could for example translate articles from English into other languages - which languages you work on is up to you. This project is organised by Wikimedia Austria.
When and where? The project takes place two times in autumn 2023, each time with 15 participants and 6 workshops. The first workshop series starts on 21 October 2023 in Vienna (Austria) (all day), then has four online workshops via Zoom (2 hours each) and then again a closing workshop in Vienna (all day). The second workshop series starts on 11 November 2023 in Berlin and also has four online workshops and a closing workshop.
Costs? The project is for free. Travel costs to Vienna / Berlin and, if needed, accommodation are covered via travel grants by Wikimedia Austria and possibly Wikimedia Germany or Wikimedia Switzerland.
Who can participate?
