Charming Baby Toys - Free Pattern

These colorful stuffed toys were made from 5 inch charm squares.

You need 2 charm squares of each color.

Place them pretty sides together.

Stitch 1/4 inch seam allowance all the way around leaving an opening of about 2 inches.  Stitch twice.

Clip the corners off, close to the stitching on each corner.

Turn right side out.

Poke each corner out from the inside.

Stuff with whatever you think is best for your baby toys.  I selected poly batting that I cut up into little squares.

Hand or machine stitch the opening closed. I hand stitched them closed.

The finished square toy measures about 4 1/2".

I lined them up like a color wheel with the primary colors in the center - Red, Yellow and Blue. Then I placed the secondary colors around them - Orange, Purple, and Green.

Lined them up in rows.

Then in a pile! I had fun playing with them.  I hope my grandson loves them too.

I also cut out some toys from some novelty fabrics I had. I stitched them the same way.  But no corners - all rounded edges.

I love the blue butterfly. That represents me - Grandmama.

I decided I needed a fish to represent Grandpapa, because he loves to fish.

and I needed a cow and pig for Wisconsin's farms.

Then I threw them all together in one pile.

I have to say, I had fun making them too!

Grab your fabrics and make some "Charming Baby Toys"!

You can purchase a PDF Downloadable Pattern in my Online Store for only $1.00. "Charming Baby Soft Toys" You can save it on your computer or print it out.

Enjoy!

Quilting for Valentine's Day!

I am getting ready for Valentine's Day with a really long table runner for Julie and Mark.

I used this Extra Large Charm Pack of 50 - 5 inch squares. It's a Special Valentine's Charm Pack. I have a limited supply --- Only $6.00, plus Shipping US $3.00 and Canada $4.00.

Email me if you are interested in one or two or three.
[email protected]

You can purchase both the pattern($6.00)and the charms($6.00) = $12.00,  Plus US shipping of $3.00 and Shipping to Canada $4.00.

Update:  WOW!  ---- I sold out of the Extra Large ( pack of 50) Charm Packs, but I can make a substitute charm pack that would have NO Lite Pinks -- out of that color. You could choose to have 7 more squares of the print or more purples or the other pinks!

I had to lay it at an angle across the bed to get a photo.  With the extra charm squares, I was able to make it longer.

I used the "Charm Squared" Quilt Pattern.  You can order the pattern by email with your charm pack or you can order it online on my website at Quilt Patterns.

It is a easy and fast to make.  I plan to quilt it on Saturday and I will share the photos next week.

The pattern is for a table runner, but you could make any size quilt.  I think a baby or lap quilt would be perfect for this pattern.

I folded it in half (kind of) for another view of the table runner.

I think my next one will be made with blues! I played around with my photo program and made it blue.

What color would you make it?

Remember the Christmas Table Runner made from the Charm Squared Pattern.

Take time to play!

Hodgepodge Patchwork Tuesday - It's a Charming Midnight Blues!

When I first started writing Hodgepodge Patchwork Tuesday, I wrote them at night after Taco Tuesday.  I should have probably named them Hodgepodge Patchwork Wednesday, because I didn't finish writing them until later on Tuesday night.  Tacos must inspire me!  We didn't go out for Tacos tonight, but I am inspired to write.

I am always looking for simple construction ideas to make really cool looking quilts.  This summer, I made this quilt top using fat quarters, but I cut them into 5 inch squares - charms.  I named the quilt "Midnight Blues".

I used 3 shades of blues - light, medium, and dark and 2 golds and a blue and gold star fabric.  Since I started with fat quarters, I really don't know how many charms I used for the quilt top.

First, I mixed up the 5 inch squares and sewed them together in random order into long strips. You could do them in an order or a pattern, but I like the randomness it creates.

I moved them around, so the same colors weren't together, like in the photo.

Then I staggered them.

Next I cut several 1 1/2 inch strips in a coordinating color. I chose the lighter gold.

Then I sewed the strips in between each row.

Press/Iron.

Then trim off the offset ends that are sticking out!

I bordered it with the same gold on the top and on the bottom - sorry no photo. But you know what I mean - right? You can see the sides in this photo.

That is it.  Fun and simple and it looks cool!

This would work great for a charm pack of many colors.  I also think an I-Spy Quilt would be cool in this pattern!  It would be a great pattern for a beginner - no matching!

Remember to take time to play!
Enjoy!

Hodgepodge Patchwork Continues Playing with Charms - Part Two

The Twisted Charm Quilt Block is now available as a Downloadable PDF for only $1.00 at Craftsy.com.
Click Here for the direct Link to the pattern.

Click here for Part One. and then come back.

I pressed/iron all the four patches. The photo shows you how I cut it.  I placed the pens in the corners to show you where I lined up the four patch to cut an 8 inch block.
Just make sure all four corners are on the block and a somewhat even amount from each corner of the original square - about an inch and half in from the corner.  But this does not need to be exact, because we are not going to match up any seams. Rotary cut these two sides.
Flip around. Line up to cut the 8 inch block.
Rotary cut the other two sides.
I placed the cut offs along each side so you can see how it was cut.  This creates a Twisted Charm Block.
Then I started to lay them out to form all sorts of patterns. First I tried a pattern with all the prints in the bottom right corners.  I mixed the blocks around to scatter the colors too.
With the 56 charms, you will end up with two extra squares.  I can make one more block by adding 4 more charms or just not use them.

I tried a scrambled pattern. I liked this one!
And then a pattern where I grouped the prints together.
Then I switched the prints to the top left corners and mixed up some of the colors.
And another grouping of prints together. I like this one too! This would look cool if it was a larger quilt, then the patterns would repeat.
I tried grouping some of the colors, but I didn't like this pattern.
Then I decided to sew them together all in a row with the print on the bottom right corner and just scattered the colors.
It made a nice long table runner or a cedar chest/trunk topper.  I have a cedar chest in my living room in front of my sofa.  This would make a nice bright topper for it.
The Twisted Charm Blocks are 8 inches wide. If I used it as a table runner is would be about 15 1/2 inches wide by about 53 inches long.

I had fun playing with the charms and making the Twisted Charm Blocks. Try it, you'll like it!
Enjoy!
