A Christmas Tree Quilt for My Sofa

I am in a Facebook Group, where we have a quilt block lottery once a month.  It's called "Swapping Sisters".  We are currently doing a "Sew Along".

Here's how the Quilt Block Lottery works:
At the beginning of the month, they post the quilt block we are making. You sign up to make one or two or up to four quilt blocks.  You make them and take a photo and post that you have completed your quilt block or blocks.  At the end of the month, they have a drawing. Your name is entered as many times as you make blocks (up to 4) . If you lose, you mail your quilt blocks to the winner (all in the US).  If you win, everyone mails you their quilt blocks. Over the past 3 years, I have won 4 times!!!

My original intent was to force myself to make the quilt block, as I do not normally make traditional quilts, so this way, I would learn a new quilt block every month.  I like learning new things.

In July, I won these Christmas tree Quilt Blocks.  Of course, the blue one is mine!

After I quilted it, I took a few photos on the bed.  It could be a bed quilt too.

But I like it best on my sofa!

I made a couple fun sequin fabric pillows for my grandchildren to throw on the sofa.

They LOVED it!

Me too!

Here's the link to my post about my Grandmother's buttons that I stitched onto Crazee Patch Velvet Pillows.

Christmas is over, so it's time to flip my Sofa Quilt over! It's reversible!

Enjoy your day!

Breaking through Negativity

This week's Project Quilting Challenge was "Hope".
I titled mine "Breaking Through Negativity"

I always create a personal challenge for myself for the Project Quilting Challenges. For this one, it was to do hand sewing on at least part of my quilt.

I reinforced the fabric for the raw edge applique with light heat and bond.

I cut my bird first. . .

and hand stitched it onto one of the four fabric background pieces.

Next I hand stitched the stones into place on the background pieces.

Next I reinforced the background fabric with lite heat and bond to iron/press it onto another background fabric for a layered look!

I free motion quilted it with my longarm machine, with wavy and wiggle lines and out lining on the bird.

I selected to use a double batting  of 80/20 - cotton/poly on the bottom and a washable wool as the top layer to give it more dimension.

After quilting, I trimmed the quilt, leaving about a 1/2 inch to create a frayed edge.

I carefully trimmed away the 2 layers of batting.

I used the scissors to cut tiny slits in the edge to created the frayed look.

My quilts measures 15" across by 11".

Check out all the beautiful quilts that were created this week over at Project Quilting! Oh and vote for your favorite quilts!

I am sponsoring Project Quilting again this year, making this my 9th year to giveaway Prizes! Here is the Prize Post that tells about all the prizes you have a possibility to win by creating a quilting in one week!

My Prizes are:
Marcia’s Crafty Sewing & Quilting is donating a “Longarm Quilting Gift Certificate” for $50.00 off the Quilting on a Lap size quilt or larger. (Lap, Twin, Full, Queen, or King) from  Crafty Sewing & Quilting. Check out Marcia’s FAQQS Frequently Asked QUILTING Questions Page on her website.

The Gift Certificate will be good for 6 months. If you win, Marcia will do an estimate based on the size of your quilt top, quilting choices, thread choices, and batting choices and if they would like to purchase backing fabric from her. Winner can send backing fabric and batting with their quilt top, but she does have it available. This way the winner will have a good estimate of the value of the quilting prize.

AND

I give a PRIZE to EVERYONE!

Marcia of Crafty Sewing and Quilting would also like to giveaway a prize of one of her Original PDF Downloadable Patterns to each and every participant for this challenge!
To make it simple after you enter your quilt in the link up, you should email Marcia —  [email protected] and tell her that you just linked up and the name of your quilt project. She will then email you instructions on how to select a pattern for your prize and then she will email it to you directly. (values up to $8.00)

Enjoy your day!
