What were we doing?
Photographs like these pop up in our displays all the time and they stir many memories.
Just before Christmas in 2009, we were delighting in our baby black Labrador puppy, Gus. He adored Frodo, my Velcro dog and spent as much time as he could tucked up with him or following him around. Frodo was an awkward dog with anyone he didn’t know, including other dogs, but was as gentle as could be with all the young ones in our family, whether two or four-legged. He was a faithful, loyal companion. He had many health problems, but he taught us so much. There are a number of blog posts about his life.
Gus grew into a very handsome boy, much admired by those who met him. He was a kind, sensitive dog, always anxious to please. He lived with enough dogs in the family that he never felt the need to meet and greet other dogs, though he was perfectly friendly if they approached him. He wrote many blog entries.
They are both much missed. Being remembered by those who loved them grants them immortality.

I had never heard of the Velcro breed before. It is clear that you love your dogs and are keenly aware of the differences they reveal.
ReplyDeleteLovely memories!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous, and the joy they brought you and still bring you is a wonderful thing.
ReplyDeleteA very sweet post and so nice to know these lovely pups through your photos. Our dog was a mix between a black Labrador and a Dalmatian. She has been gone for many years, a real character but we loved her dearly and she is still missed greatly.
ReplyDeleteGus and Frodo are beautiful. Your words about the immortality of those we love are very touching.
ReplyDeleteI admit I am biased but your black labby Gus was truly handsome and loving. I saw a Labrador accused of biting and damaging another dog on TV today, and I yelled at the judge that no Labrador EVER but another dog in anger!

ReplyDeleteThe photos that pop up from years gone by are a great reminder of many joyful moments in the past.
ReplyDeleteSo many nice memories locked up in photos.
ReplyDeleteA lovely post, thank you for sharing your memories.
ReplyDeleteWe never forget them, we have had seven cats, always two together, and I love when their photo's come up in memories.
ReplyDeleteWe had 8 cats during our marriage, one is still left with me, Rosie, they all made it to 18 - 20 years, how could I ever forget them and the adventures we had with them.
ReplyDeleteThey certainly look comfortable together and I kind of get a chuckle out of the fact that one's white with black polka dots and one is just black. I would think sometimes they get lost on each other.
