Sight Word Easter Egg Hunt!

Image
The Sight Word Easter Egg Hunt is a fun and quick activity to do this week or even right after the big day! Just print the words on the plastic eggs and hide them! Then send your kiddos out to find the eggs, and write the words down that are on the eggs. They do not gather the eggs up; they just record the words they find on our cute little, free recording sheet ! Our kids were just BURSTING with excitement as they searched for the eggs! We did this in small groups as part of our rotation for our language arts instruction one day. It was a HUGE HIT! They were SO THRILLED each time they found an egg! They were TOTALLY using the spelling songs that they learned to help them figure out the words. BINGO! I love it when I can just SEE the learning transfer over! A...

A Counting Creatures Workbook for Numbers 11-20!

Image
This winter, we have been working on creating a completely new book full of fun worksheets to reinforce the numbers 11-20, and now Counting Creatures 11-20 is finally finished!  My class has had a ball trying them out, and I have been itching to tell you all about them, but there wasn't much point in telling you about a product that wasn't yet available at the time!  But now, the book is completely finished, and I must say that I think that it is a GEM!  I haven't yet seen a workbook full of activities that were focused exclusively on the numbers 11-20, so I think it will be very useful for those of us that need something else to give our students that are still struggling with these tricky numbers. Just like the Counting Creatures book for the numbers 0-10 , this book starts out with a count and move-along poem, but this time the children are counting out much larger numbers!  Also, we are not simply clapping this time, we are also jumping, hopping, r...

Six Weeks Down: Counting Creatures!!

Image
Well, I don’t mind telling you that it’s been a tough week, and Friday couldn’t have come soon enough!  I had to make a heart wrenching decision on Tuesday to put my older beloved dog “Hunny Bun” down due to congestive heart failure, as she was suffering greatly.  But knowing this didn’t help my broken heart at all; she was my baby, and she was born in our house!  Needless to say, the tears didn’t stop falling for a couple of days, and I keep finding them welling up in my eyes even now.  Luckily, the kids themselves are a good distraction from this type of grief, as is teaching itself!  And as hard as it is to force myself to get up in the morning and just GO and DO IT, it is much better if I do!  Just as I assumed they would, their bright smiles were the perfect distraction from a very difficult, emotional situation. To make matters worse, my district seems to have gone DIBELS crazy, and planned a training for the afternoon of our weekly Compac...
