Sketch Saturday - a poignant one

I haven't made a card - I have made a centre piece for a scrap page I have been promising to make for a while now. Probably the closest friend I will ever have would have been 40 today ... but sadly she died in the manchester plane crash. The Gorguss girls stamps are so like her ... the hair and legs that go on for ever! She was a bit of a weird one, and I was so tempted to colour her hair green, as she loved playing with food colouring and her hair!! She was very much like a butterfly - always flitting from one thing to another.

I used the image with the bird and masked it off so I could put her on these steps. I watercoloured the image and distressed it. I added the butterfly but haven't coloured it. I resisted the urge to distress the papers - I wanted a faintly grungey look, but not too shabby, but did distress the flowers. I sanded the coredinations papers and added metallic eyelets. The sentiment is from a Take That song - couldn't stand them 1st time round, obviously I am mellowing! I distressed the tag and added a couple of butterflies.

The idea is to put some photos round it at angles ... just need to summon up the courage and get a box of tissues before doing the pictures thing!
We're off to Vicky's this afternoon to celebrate Edward's birthday - so I will be back tomorrow moring with the March Sugar Sugar project and my WOJ GDT card - well I won't be, hopefully the scheduled post will work!!

Friday Sketcher

Something a bit different today. I bumped into the Minister who lets us run the local toddler group in her chapel at Preschool yesterday. I always worry when people beam at you when they see you ... they usually want something LOL! And I was right - she started with ... "You make cards don't you?" followed by "I loved your Christmas cards for the children at Toddler group" (there goes the denial about card making!!). Then ... "Can you make me a couple of Easter cards to send abroad?" "OK" I said (she's they kind of lady that you can't say no to!). I don't do religious cards as a rule, but thought I would have a go for her ... I coloured the images last night and pushed them round, struggling for ideas. However this morning's Friday Sketcher seemed perfect for them so here they are ....

I did some masking of the bible and watercoloured the images, before distressing them. I have kept the colour scheme simple and the dp plain. I added some scrolls and a couple of flowers and thats it. The text was computer generated and copied of 'tinternet.
If she doesn't like them one'll do for my Gran ... its the only shop bought card I ever send!

Twinkle

This week's challenge over at Lili of the Valley is a fab sketch by Donalda. As Ellie's friends seem to be always having birthdays I thought I'd make a girly pink ( ... yes Ali you read that right PINK!!) card to have in stock.
I used my prize from a couple of week's ago, Twinkle, as my image. Ellie has made a few cards with this stamp so I hadn't had a look in. I watercoloured her simply in and, with some help from Beth, stickled the sparkles and crown. I have kept it quite simple and as it will be for a 4 year old used metal flowers - they don't seem to appreciate Primas!! I thought the PB sentiment was quite appropriate with this fairy.

My foxy friend

I have managed to get a few minutes to myself today and made a simple card - I am really liking the less fussy look of this card, it makes the Gorjuss image stand out.

I coloured the image in using promarkers (I wanted to see how she looked in Promarkers) and matted her onto purple and black cardstock.I ran the purple and lilac cardstock through CB embossing folders and matted them onto black cardstock. I printed out the sentiment and mated that onto black cardstock. I decided to leave it embellishment free, except for the two brads. I followed Becky's sketch on My Time to Craft, and followed CCT and Charisma Cardz challenges theme, animals.

I'm off to rest my back for a bit, girls willing!! Hopefully I'll get a chance to do some more later.

DDCC challenge #37 a sketch

This week's challenge is a sketch ...one designed by me!!! I think I got carried away with the shapes in Word and forgot I would have to turn it into a card!!
I have adapted it a bit - used flowers and brads for the coner circles and done a bit of resizing.

For the image I used my WOJ spring kit, including the tree stump and basket of eggs. I masked the stump on and cut the basket out (forgot to stamp it before I put the stump on - DOH!). The images have been watercoloured and I cut the scene out and the frame using my nesties. I punched little eggs out of blue cardstock and made a shaker. I faux stitched the papers and added flowers, gems, scrolls and brads to complete the card.

I am really pleased with the shaker - it is only the second time I have made a shaker card.
Do check out the other DT cards.

My Gorjuss Friend

I got my Gorjuss stamps today ... and they are gorjuss!! I have inked them all up and am now working through them! I have made a friendship card for a good blogging friend ... not saying who so she gets a surprise when it drops on her mat!

I masked off the cat on the image, Purrfect friend, and watercoloured her, using just 3 colours. I decided not to matt her, and just distressed the edges. I kept the background and colour scheme simple, using just 1 dp and some cardstock. I love the ribbon - it is scroll stamped onto nylony stuff - really effective to use!
The verse is one I have had stored on my computer for ages ... I have put the 1st verse on the front and finished it inside. I distressed the edges to match the image.

A closer look at Gorjuss girl!
I hardly ever do the inside of cards ... but for this special friend I have made an exception. I used the same layout as the outside, and distressed both the verse and the space to write my message.

Well I have to fedd the children now (thery are currently screaming and shouting outside!) But I feel an early night coming on for them and lots of playing for me ... just going to take some stronger painkillers so my back copes!

ABC challenge ... C is for ...

Child's card
I make alot of children's cards with having 2 little ones. I always like to keep them simple and bright. I have made this card for Vicky's older son, who is 3 at the beginning of March.
I couldn't resist using one of my latest WOJ stamps as I think it looks a little like Edward. I used cardstock and bright patterned papers, and stamped the sentiment. The three stars are for Edward's age and I cut them using my star nesties.

Stamp(s): WOJ Spring Stamp kit; Penny Black Salutations
Colouring Media: Distress ink
Papers: DCWV Glitter stack, cardstock

Simple card

I get asked to make cards by a few of the parents at Ellie's pre-school - today's challenge, make a card for a 9 year old girl in Manchester City sky blue colours ... oh and include a cute image and pretty papers, but not be too fussy! No problem I muttered!!
I'm not sure what the card is for so I have left it greeting-less, but have used the Papertake Weekly sketch (rotated) and a different card shape (Spoonfull of Sugar).

I cut my card and dp using my Mega rectangles from Nestibilities - I hardly ever use them as they are generally too big - never thought to use them to cut card blanks -DOH! I made sure that I would still have some fold in the card when I placed the die in the folded card. I then had to find an image cute enough and small enough to fit in the middle!! I coloured this gorgeous Sarah Kay image in and then chopped the bottom off! I used turquoise cardstock that match ed the centre of the darker flowers to matt the image onto. I ran some acetate through my d'vine swirls folder and scruffed the back up so it showed on the cardstock. Two flower brads attach the cardstock and acetate. Finally I distressed the edges of the image, card blank and dp as it looked too stark. Hopefully they will like it.

It is a simple take on the Papertake sketch and hopefully I'll have another go at it later in the week ... but I pulled my lower back quite badly while tidying up my craft room on Sunday and crafting is a little painful at the moment. That'll teach me to be tidy!!

Diamond duckling

Its a sketch challenge over at the Saturday Secret Crafter this week. It is niteresting that both Friday Sketcher and Secret Crafter have done triangles on their cards ... I love both sketches and have mastered cutting the triangles!
I have made a cheerful spring card, that I will probably use as an Easter card. I watercoloured the image and cut it out using my nesties. I love these papers and matted them onto matching golden yellow cardstock. I cut the photo corners using a woodware chipboard one as a template. Flower brads finish it off.
I am really 'off' over embellishing my cards at the moment, definitely liking a more clean and simple look ... oh and it saves on stash LOL!!

Get well card

I have combined 3 challenges for this card:
PBSC - Get well card
Sketch Saturday Sketch
Stamp Something - 3D

I watercoloured the image a couple of times and distressed the edges with distress ink. My waterbrush is misbehaving at the moment so the hedgie looks a bit blotchy! I cut and decoupaged the hedgehog and 3 of the daisies. As Ellie was hanging around I let her glitter the daisies which is why they are GLITTERED! I matted the image and papers onto orange cardstock and added the sentiment.

Recipe:
Stamp(s): Penny Black Hedgehog bouquet
Colouring Media: Distress inks
Papers: DCWV Pocketful of Posies, Nursery stack
Embellishments: Prima flowers, brads from stash, computer generated sentiment

Cuddles

I have combined this week's Friday Sketcher with the Charima Cardz challenge, hugs and cuddles. I am not overly happy with the card, hubby says its lovely, but I'm not sure. I haven't been well for the last couple of days, so I'm putting my doubts down to that.
I coloured the image and distressed the background. I love these papers, and often layer the flowers up to add some depth. As the papers are quite busy I have just used simple brown buttons for the embellishment. No sentiment yet, I only add them when I use the card.
Beth's been back to the doctors ... the 'virual' rash that she has had for a month is now excema so she is on a steriod cream to reduce the inflamation and itching. The poor little thing has scratched herself raw. But hopefully the cream will work quickly and I can stop saying "don't scratch" - I soundlike a broken record at the moment.
Hoping to do some crafting today, so hopefully there will be more to show later.

Spring wishes

I can't believe I have already made a card this morning - no girls to feed or do a school run for ... I could do this more often LOL!!
I have combined the CCT theme Spring with the recipe over at LOTV (3 brads, 2 papers, 1 flower) for this card as I have to go and get the girls soon, so my crafting will be back to normal soon :(

This has to be my current favourite image from the Stamp Kit - she is just gorgeous. I watercoloured her and resisted the urge to distress the background! I added some ribbon and ric-rac detail to a couple of the corners and ric-rac acrooss the middle. The sentiment is set off to an angle as it didn't look right straight, with the ribbon corners.

Well off to chuck the cat out, get my mum some flowers and pick the girls up. Will catch up with you all later.

2 Christmas cards

I have got a bit slack with my resolution to make at least 1 Christmas card a week, but I loved the sketch over at Just Christmas and Birthday cards, so have made a couple of cards. I have rotated the sketch for both cards.
I do adore these ickle mice, they look so cosy. They are coloured in distress inks and the papers are all from my scrap tray (got to use them up so I can buy more LOL!). Its pretty embellishment free at the mo - going to look for some new Christmas embellies near the time, so they will be added then.

I love this cat - he looks like he has just got the cream. Strangely I didn't make any cards with him on last year. Again he is coloured in distress inks and all the papers are from my scraps and left over Christmas paper. I added stickles to the berries on the image and the paper, and stamped a gold scroll onto 2 corners. Of the two I do prefer this one.

Dutch Dare Card Challenge #36

This week's DDCC challenge is a colour combination, green and yellow. I panicked when I saw this as they are not colours I tend to use. But after a scrabble through my papers and I little help from a friend (who seems to know my stash better than me! LOL) I came up with this.

I love my Spring Stamp kit from WOJ and I have watercoloured this image and distressed the edges. I have kept the background quite simple, distressing some cardstock and matting it onto the patterned paper. Simple flowers, swirls, some lace and a little charm finish it off.
Do check out the other DT creations.

ABC challenge ... B is for

This week's ABC Challenge is a colour theme ...

B is for blue and brown

I love this Sugar Nellie - she always looks so thoughtful. I have tried to go for a vintage look on this so the blue is very muted and I have used lots of vintage style browns. I distressed the image and papers in tea dye and vintage photo distress inks and then added a darker brown to the very edges. I stamped scrolls using a set from TAC and the sentiment is PB - all stamped in Broken China. The flowers and ribbon are from my stash.

Why don't you visit the other DTs blogs and have a go yourself.

Recipe:

Colouring media: Distress inks - frayed burlap, vintage photo, brushed cordruoy, tea dye, antique linen, tattered rose, broken china, peeled paint

Papers: Papermaina - Warm Nostalgic

Embellishments: Prima flowers, Papermania brads, organza ribbon

Sugar Bowl challenge #4

For the Sugar Bowl's 4th challenge you can only use 1 patterned paper. I couldn't decide on a floral paper so decided to do a boy's card instead.

I watercoloured the image and distressed it. I went to town with the distressing, and ripped and sanded everything!! I embossed the background cardstock using my Swiss dots folder and sanded it. The image and red card stock are cut out using my nesties, and the cardstock sanded. I delibrately matted everything at an angle to add to the grungey feel. I set eyelets to hold the image and star. Just need to find a grungey teenager now!!

Thank you Helen, Pauline and Claire for this award - I have made so many blogging friends and don't really know where to start handing it out ... so if you consider yourself one of my bloggy friends please consider this award passed on.

A Spoonful of WOJ spring kit

Well I have cleaned the bedrooms (pat on the back!) - and found the odd socks, toys and bits and bobs that the girls store everywhere but where they should be!! And I have had time to make a card for this week's Spoonfull of Sugar challenge, a fab sketch by Debbie.
But first here is the image I used ... yep another from my WOJ stamp kit, and isn't she just scrummy?!
Anyway on to the card ...
I have kept it quite embellishment free as the papers are quite patterned (and I am trying to make my embellie stash last as long as possible!). I watercoloured and distressed the image and matted her onto 2 plain papers. So the pink patterned paper stood out I also matted that onto black. Did a bit of faux stitching, added some ribbon, bow and charm and ... voila!
So off to have a bite to eat and then back to the craft room - I am definitely going to make the most of the next 2 days!

New WOJ spring kit and Paprtake Weekly challenge

I got my WOJ spring kit yesterday, and yes they were inked up immediately!! Don't they look gorgeous! Here's a peek Ali, just for you!!I have used three of the stamps for this card and have done some masking to position them all. I'm really pleased with the masking as I am usually rubbish at it (Thanks Samantha for the tutorial!)
The Papertake Weekly challenge is to make a set of something, card and tag, box and card/tag etc. I have made a card and pillow box (to be filled with heart shaped chocs) for a couple of friends who have got engaged. The two images look quite like them, so it was an excuse to use them.
The layout of the card is quite simple as the image is big! I used the red heart from the folded heart template (used on the pillow box) to pop over the top of the card. I made the folded heart (thanks again Samantha for the template) to put on the pillow box to hold the tag. I edged the heart in Brilliance Starlight black.
Not too much detail as they aren't a very fussy couple, but Nancy does like a bit of pink!
My little one Ellie is gutted as she has set her heart on marrying Nick when she grows up!!
Well I am off to clean the bedrooms - the girls are still at the grandparents so its a sort and sling clean!! Then crafting!!!!
Still not managed to get a lie in though as the cat is resolutely refusing to use the cat flap unassisted! So I had to get up and let her out at 7.30!!

Sketch and Stash #4

Becky has come up with a fab sketch for this Sketch and Stash ...
When I saw this I instantly thought gatefold card. So I have made a thank you/wedding acceptance for a couple of friends who ar getting married in a couple of months.
I used Valentine Tilda and edwin from the winter Stamp club. I coloured them in distress ink and distressed the edges in antique linen and tattered rose. I matted them in contrasting colours, and repeated the distressing and matting for the sentiment.
The new bit is the heart charm - sorry if you have seen it on recent cards .. I made this as soon as I got these gorgeous charms, and have used a few since.

Inside the card I have done the acceptance text in gold pen on a nestie label (hidden as it is personal), and satamped hearts in versamark and gold embossed them.
I am really looking forward to seeing eveyone else's take on the sketch .. so go on have a go.
