Getting Back To It

I paused the flower block-a-month project back in February when I hurt my shoulder and then got deeeeeep into the genealogy book.

But I really like what I’ve done so far and want to finish,

so Friday I went through all my orange fabrics (soooo many oranges… picking 4 was the hardest part of making this)

and took my time sewing it up Saturday and Sunday so as not to annoy my shoulder again…

Love it! I’m thinking maybe 3 more flowers and a couple of tiny blocks for cornerstones should get it to a nice size. Still not crazy about the iris (bottom left) so it may end up on the back. Gotta think about it …

Early Extra

This is either an early finish for March or an extra block for my flower garden project.

Pattern is “Lotus Flower” by Ingrid at JoeJuneAndMae, a new-to-me designer.

I was pleased with the directions and how nicely this went together, so I’ll be shopping there again.

The frog looks huge but is only a 6” square; flowers are 10”

My little garden is growing!

Daffodils and Crochet

Finished this month’s flower garden project - Full Bobbin Designs’ Daffodil -

while I got Leia started on her first crochet project.

Be still my heart! 💕

She wants to make two ridiculously cute little amigurumi cows for herself and a friend.

Not the easiest first project but she’s motivated and picking it up quickly. This is going to be fun.

Back To It

With everything going on in December, I fell behind on my flower garden block-of-the-month project.

 10” block

But as of today, I’m all caught up. December’s block is Crocus by Amy Friend of During Quiet Time. I’ve made several of her patterns,

 6” block
including yesterday’s little green guy, and they are always well done and easy to follow.

January’s block is Remembrance Day Poppy by Sarah at Full Bobbin Designs, another of my favorite FPP designers. Now I just need to get February’s block planned . . .

Ribbit

First project of the weekend - a hoppy friend for the flower garden.

Flower Garden BOM

I was determined to finish November’s flower before we left on our trip (tomorrow, early).

This is “Iris Blossom” by Piece By Number Quilts on Etsy. I’m second-guessing my color choices but Reyna says it’s fine and I’m too picky. . . I think it’ll blend well with the other flowers . . .

Since the evening was young (and the suitcase not yet packed), thought I’d push my luck and try for the monthly small critter block too . . .

but all I managed so far is the frog’s butt. It’s going to be cute!

Botanical Beauties #11

My penultimate BB block is done!

It took me 3 days to finish (why yes, I am still sick ☹️) but I’m pleased with it.

It’s supposed to be an inula (I had to look them up . . .) which to me looks like a daisy Dr. Seuss would draw. So fun.

Looking forward to putting this all together in January!

Worth It

I thought about ripping and redoing the original firefly but . . .

“Take a picture on my head!”

so much happier with the all new version.

All the body parts line up so nicely (this time).

Still need to embroider her little legs and antenna, but I’ll probably wait until the end, after it’s been longarmed and do all the stitch-work at once. Jac and I are pretty pleased with this so far.

Fall Quilt

I think of this design as a Christmas cactus,

since that’s how I made it the first time,

but in these colors it needs a different name.

Fall palm?  Fall cactus?

I wasn’t sure about the blue at first, but I’m happy with how it’s going. Fall leaves, with a touch of ocean. All my favorite colors.

Swear Words

What’s wrong with this picture? Which of course I didn’t spot until it was all sewn together?

Tried to fix it without ripping everything apart . . .

That’s a no. Would anyone else notice, once the quilt’s together? Probably not  . .  but I would. Sigh.

Looks like I’ll be spending more quality time with my seam ripper tomorrow.

BB 10

Jac agreed to help me take photos

of my latest Botanical Beauties finish -

a fern -

but she actually only wanted pics of herself with her pumpkin.

Nice of her to help me out anyway. 😂

Adding this so I remember where it is. Need to figure out my values (light-med-dark) for the last two blocks.

FPP BOM FTW!

Finished my FPP (foundation paper pieced) BOM (block of the month) FTW (for the win).

This is Hibiscus by Sarah at Full Bobbin Designs, and I love how much it looks like the actual flower. Nice, easy to follow pattern that was fun to make.

And since it’s still early in the month,

I thought I’d add another quick, small block,

forgetting that “small block” means tiny fiddly pieces that are not at all “quick”.

I
But look how cute Frankie is! Well worth the effort. (This is the 6” Inchworm by Amy at During Quiet Time.)

Four months done and I’m pleased with where this is going. I’ll eventually trim everything to the same size but right now I’m enjoying the wonkyness.

Thinking next month I’ll maybe add an anthurium

and a little lightning bug to the mix. . .

BB #9

This is Botanical Beauties #9, Trillium.

Does anyone else see dancing Baby Groot when they look at this???

It amazes me how nice the curves look when everything is sewn with just straight lines.

Not as many tiny pieces as last month meant it went a little faster, even with direct-contact supervision from my helper. (She’s not feeling good so I’m making allowances when she wants her face pressed into my arm while I’m stitching.)

I’m getting anxious to finish this up and enjoy the final quilt.

Three months to go!
